Quote analysis

"Religion is the opiate of the masses" - Marx This quote is really interesting because even though it is incredibly famous and every single high school or college student has heard it before, most people still get wrong or partially what Marx is trying to say. First of all, let's talk about opiates. Opiates are recreational drugs, that used to be used in medicine. They provide a short high, but fail to fully heal physical injuries. It also brings up criminality as every single drug in history with effects on the brain (such as painkillers). Thus, Marx sees religion as an escape to reality, that doesn't work and is causing more trouble than good in the world. Second of all, again with the opiates, let's take a small note about the term used. Opiates are made by humans. Therefore, it is an easy and effective way to say that humans created religion, and God, thus, is the product of imagination and never gave life on Earth. Therefore, Marx believes that the problem with religion lies in the fact that it provides a short escape from reality by giving the masses something to believe in, but ultimately fails because fantaisies are still fantaisies, no matter how much you believe in them. He also tells us that Religion does not exist, and is nothing more than a fantasy made up by humans.
