Labour announces creation of a Women's Economic Commission - Kate Green

Following a meeting today between the Shadow Cabinet and former workers who campaigned for equal pay at the Dagenham car factory, the Labour Party has announced the creation of a Women’s Economic Commission.

The Commission will be led by Seema Malhotra MP, Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Angela Eagle MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Business, and Kate Green MP, Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities.

Kate Green MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Women and Equality, said:

“Labour has ambitious plans for creating shared prosperity based on high skilled, well paid jobs. To do this we need to develop strategies to break down the barriers that will keep women and girls from taking up the opportunities from the jobs of the future. This will be a key part of the remit of the Women and the Economy Commission.

“The Labour Party has been at the forefront of the fight for women’s equality. We have transformed the representation of women in politics and championed equality for women in the workplace.

“The aim is fairness and equality now and in the future. The starting point will be how to deal with the current threat to aspiration and progress posed by Tories policies.

“An economy that truly works for women will work for the benefit of all.”
