Hi Peter,

I'm an archive researcher and I'm currently working on a documentary project which is looking for footage of the peace rally that happened in New York on 22 April 1972. I came across your tumblr post and youtube video of footage of the event. I was wondering if you could give me any pointers on what news channel/tv station the middle section of footage is from. Unfortunately I can't make out the sign off the reporter over the crowd noice - is he called Glen?

Best wishes

Hi Hannah! I can't make out the reporter's name either but I'm pretty sure he's saying WABC News, New York. As I remember, ABC7 always covered protests more than the other local channels. I remember watching the coverage that night and can't be sure if it was 7 but most likely it was, I remember more footage, including John and Yoko riding the lift to the stage. I would check all the local outlets if you haven't, and if they will allow. A few other sources I'd look for: a) did WBAI cover the protest? They normally would air full audio. I've looked and found nothing in the Pacifica archives but maybe someone there would know. b) NYPD a few years back has been publishing their archived surveillance footage from protests including four clips from the April 22 rally. The fourth clip shows John and Yoko, you can see them riding the lift up. c) obviously the Lennon estate has, or has access to, high quality footage of the march that they included in the 2002 video they produced for "Give Peace A Chance." My video posted here is also on my YouTube and might be slightly higher quality, I simply strung together clips I found elsewhere. I'd be very interested in what you find so please feel free to reach out at peterfeld@gmail.com. In particular there was a great song someone performed at the rally — "It's Still Raining Bombs On Vietnam" — I've looked for and never found.

Merry Christmas! Would you like to play a 2-hour-long show of offbeat and vintage Christmas music, with Bob Dylan as your DJ? You’re in luck! Here is Dylan’s 2006 Christmas show from “Theme Time Radio Hour," his late-‘00s program on XM satellite radio. The playlist – posted here – runs from Leadbelly to '50s mambo to Johnny Paycheck singing "Jingle Bells.” (But none of Dylan’s own recordings). Along the way Dylan tells jokes and historical tidbits, answers e-mail from listeners and gives out his recipe for figgy pudding. (Download the show here.)

This is a good show. Merry Christmas!
