knuckle tattoos that say AI GENERATED
Where does the eleventh letter go?
managed to read 99% of the caption to some ecchi art so yes i guess you could say I'm fluent in Japanese

the NSA or whichever agency has collected all of our private texts and emails and phone calls has way more data than they could ever productively use, at least until some bright spark trains a language model on it and then accidentally leaks that model to the public internet, raising absolute havoc
A big red button where if you push it AI research gets delayed by a month but one of your mutuals loses all their most treasured possessions to water damage from a burst pipe
Apparently autism is linked to immune system issues, which presumable means autists are worse at fighting off infections, so back when ~50% of kids died of disease before adulthood autists would probably be almost all in that 50%, which means that vaccines do - at a societal, not individual level - cause autism.

In Singapore, there are separate bureaucratic processes for civil marriage and Muslim marriage. According to the Government of Singapore's official website for marriage registration, Muslim men may get married to up to four women, and the process for doing so starts with filling out the above-linked APPLICATION TO TAKE ANOTHER WIFE. Filing the form requires a $380 non-refundable fee.
Is there any reason at all to be optimistic about the answer to the question of whether widespread usability of LLMs and other forms of “AI” will lead to, basically, widespread misinformation and decoherence of… everybody’s model of reality, basically?
Like if you grow up in the post GPT3 era, can you be said to know anything at all that would prevent you from mis-learning *anything* about the world? Aren’t we kinda fucked?
*A* person can convince *me* of anything. You have a billion people trying to convince me of a thing, at least one of them will succeed. You have 1 person trying to convince a billion people, at least one time they will succeed.
Yes the problem will probably get worse, but that’s just how the world works. The environment constantly changes and you need to adapt to it. The environment changes in part because it is adapting to you.
Did you believe this was insightful? Relevant? Important?
What you have essentially said, here, is “it is what it is.” Yeah, we do need to adapt to changes in the environment. This has always been true.
I am not optimistic about our ability to do this. I think we are very ill-equipped for this, is the point. This is the anxiety I am expressing. This matter is – do you understand this? – unprecedented. Historically and evolutionarily.
“unprecedented. Historically and evolutionarily.“
Lots of things in evolution is unprecedented. If society can’t beat the misinformation, position yourself and those you care to take advantage of it.
Biologists asks why communication exists in the first place, since living things tries to bamboozle each other all the time to gain an advantage. LLMs in your view is just a continuation of that, things that can’t take it will perish.
IMO there are 2 things really useful about your post. 1. it expresses you have anxiety, and you are trying to seek some way to deal with it. 2. Ask what kind of opportunities are there from this oncoming change are there for you to exploit.
It is what it is, get on with it or perish.
