Hello OmniMaster, would you like (and do you know if that might be possible ?...) to see released an x-factor omnibus with issues (by Layton/Guice and the Simonsons after) 1-17 ? What do you think ?
Ryley, come back. The collector community is in desperate need of your comments on the new collected editions catalogues and DC Rebirth!
Hopefully tomorrow evening I can sit down and churn out the stuff about both the Marvel and DC catalogues. I have a LOT of words to say! I’ve got a new post-graduate job that takes up 12 hours of my days monday through friday (I leave home at about 6:30AM and don’t get home until 6:30PM) and these weekends have also been busy. Well… last weekend wasn’t but I was busy binging Daredevil before going to work on monday, LOL. This weekend we’re at my parents place celebrating Easter and my sister’s Birthday, but we should be back tomorrow afternoon giving me plenty of time to sit down and talk about the catalogues! Thanks for the words of encouragement and sorry I haven’t been on here as much!
Take good care, man (errr, "Master", i mean !! - no joke !)
Marvel’s Got Some Weird Amazon Fish...
So thanks to some members of my FB group for making me aware, apparently we have a lot of really strange new listings on Amazon for upcoming Marvel books. By strange I mean… they all seem like they’re either two listings fused into one, or just half of the information (like one that’s just “SPIDER-MAN” with al list price of $125 and another that’s just “STAR WARS” with a $100 tag). So I’m going to do my absolute best to sort through this mess and figure out what the hell is going on… here we go…
Captain America Vol. 1 - I’m going to assume this is just the first volume of the upcoming book by Nick Spencer featuring the return of Steve as Cap.
Civil War II - Pretty straight forward. Cover price here is $50.
Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith - OHC of Dark Horse adaptation for that movie.
Avengers Epic Collection: War of Kings Omnibus - Alright… so here’s the first weird one… I’m going to ASSUME that this means there’s an Epic Collection coming, and then the WoK Omnibus is something separate entirely. Which is awesome because WoK and RoK (and Nova) are pretty much the only things we need in Omni/OHC for a full 2000′s comic collection in those formats.
Marvel Masterworks - That’s it. No information as to what character or team, but it’s $75.
Sensational She-Hulk by John Byrne - Awesome, because I’ve wanted to read this for a while. It’s $40 and doesn’t say anything about it being “Vol. 1″ so I’m wondering if it’s supposed to be all in one. He did issues #1-8, 31-46, and 48-50 so it’s possible to have it all in one place…
X-Men/Alpha Flight - $30. I’m wondering if this is just a TPB version of the old Marvel Premiere Classic HC that was out years ago. That had the two minis and some other extra stuff. What I’m really wanting is new printings of Alpha Flight classic. Fingers crossed.
Deadly Hands of Kung Fu Omnibus Vol. 1 - Pretty straight forward. This was already announced alongside the Shang-Chi Master of Kung Fu Omnis. Glad to see Marvel’s working so diligently to have these all out in a timely matter… it’s almost as if they have some PLANS for the character or something…
… and then a lot of stuff is listed twice and there’s a $16 TPB for Civil War II. I’m going to assume that’s just the core event while the HC listed earlier has all the tie-ins (or many of them).
Guardians of the Galaxy: The New Guard Vol. 2: Darth Vader Vol. 2 - HAHA WHAT?! Okay… so I’m guessing GotG is just the second collection of the current series and then… Dark Vader is maybe the second OHC of that series? I have no friggin clue.
Mighty Thor Vol. 2: Kanan Omnibus - Another head-scratcher here… Mighty Thor Vol. 2 is probably just the regular collection of the Thor series, but “Kanan Omnibus”… is that referring to some sort of complete collection of the Kanan series? It would be really weird to see a twelve issue Omnibus, so I’m lost on this one.
Ms. Marvel Omnibus Vol. 1 - Cover price of $75. This could be one of two things, a first Omnibus of the Kamala Kahn material (her entire first ongoing with some extra material) or it could be an initial collection of the old Carol Danvers stuff. I’m leaning towards the former at the moment because the first Ms. Marvel series with Danvers was only 25 issues and I don’t think it would need a “Vol. 1″ attached to the back of it (though I’d love to see that in an Omnibus either way. If it’s the Kamala stuff that would be really COOL, but also annoying because I’d rather they just wait until at least G. Willow Wilson is done with her run and then collected it either all in one, or figure a good way to break it up. We’ll see…
Star Wars - $35 HC, so that’s probably the second OHC of the ongoing series.
Star Wars - $50… I don’t know… an OHC of the minis? I’m at a loss. No friggin’ clue.
Thor Epic Collection - No subtitle given, but it’s $40
The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Vol. 1 - $35 so assumably it’s an OHC of the first chunk of SG issues. NICE!
Captain America - $25 TPB. No idea. Could be part of the ongoing stuff, could be something older. I have no clue at this point.
Doctor Strange - $30 TPB. I’d assume this is a collection of older material, but it’s not listed as an Epic Collection so maybe something post-Onslaught? No clue.
Inhumans/X-Men - $125 HC?? I just… what? If anyone has a guess as to this one feel free to let me know because I’m friggin stumped. EDIT: Member David M. noted that this could be an Omnibus sized HC of material leading up to War of Kings. There was a lot of stuff with both the Inhumans and the X-Men that lead up to the event. If they want to go ALL THE WAY BACK to the intro of Vulcan then they could include stuff like X-Men Deadly Genesis and Rise and Fall of the Shi’ar Empire as well as X-Men: Emperor Vulcan and X-Men Kingbreaker, and then on the Inhumans side they could include the Secret Invasion: Inhumans mini-series as well as Secret Invasion: War of Kings. Maybe even the four issue Inhumans mini from a few years prior to the Secret Invasion one. Maybe even Realm of Kings: Inhumans? Guess we’ll see.
Man-Thing by Steve Gerber - Something simple!
Star Wars Darth Vader Vol. 4 - Also simple, and this makes me feel confident the earlier one was for a second DV OHC
Captain Marvel - $20 TPB. Either a second complete collection of the KSD Danvers stuff, a collection of the current series, or a collection of classic stuff with one of the older Cap Marvels.
Doctor Strange Epic Collection: Bite and Bark - $40 Epic Collection, but I don’t know what it might collect by looking at the title.
Legendary Star-Lord Vol. 4: The Complete Collection Vol. 2 - I’m wondering if “The Complete Collection Vol. 2″ needs to be tacked onto the end of one of the other books like “Man-Thing by Steve Gerber”
Son of Satan Classic - $40 TPB. Pretty self-explanatory.
Doctor Strange - $25 TPB. Could be of the current series, but I totally doubt it. Probably another collection of older material.
Punisher Max - $35, so I’m going to guess this is for the third Complete Collection.
Spirits of Vengeance - $35… likely contains the entire 23 issue series of the same name.
Dark Tower: The Drawing of Three: Clone Saga Omnibus Vol. 1 - Uh.
Hawkeye Vol. 3 - $35 HC, likely the first OHC of Lemire’s run since the TPB’s started being numbered with Vol. 5. I actually halfway expected this. So for yall who like everything to line up on your shelves, you might prefer to have the Hawkeye OHC’s over the Omnibus… but what if they also release a Lemire Omnibus? Mind=Blown.
Power Man and Iron Fist Epic Collection - Most likely the second Epic Collection for that run. The first was released semi-recently.
Spider-Man - $125 HC. This is likely supposed to be accompanied by the above “Clone Saga Omnibus Vol. 1″ which makes my biggest question… how many Omnis will it take to hold all this stuff?!
The Uncanny X-Men Omnibus Vol. 2 (New Printing) - Pretty obvious
Black Panther Epic Collection - No subtitle but I’m hoping for a “Vol. 1″ with all the classic stuff.
Star Wars Legends Epic Collection - No subtitle
X-Men - $40. Not sure what would be in this one, but maybe another Epic Collection. Either way I just hope it’s something collecting material that hasn’t been elsewhere.
MMW Fantastic Four Vol. 18 - Finally, something else that’s clear and obvious.
Punisher War Journal by Carl Potts and Jim Lee - Finally seeing some classic Punisher reprints!
X-Men Origins: Gambit
Captain America Epic Collection: The Coming of the Falcon
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 HC
Defenders Epic Collection: The Six Fingered Hand
And then at this point I’m pretty sure it’s all stuff that we’ve known about already. I’m PRETTY DAMN SURE that we’ll get a full catalog from Hachette really soon that will clear up a lot of this, but it’s kind of exciting having to piece it all together and not knowing wtf is going on. If you have any ideas for stuff I was stumped by feel free to comment about it or send me a message!
I read "tpb" for She-Hulk by Byrne... Damn ! Can't this actually be an OHC ??!!
Toons On Tap with Leelando Calrissian as The Joker and (surprise model!) Charlie Quinn as Harley Quinn.
Which Unkle album ? Or rather a mix ?
X-Men Gischler/Bachalo
Hello, i just found out, in a very good (and almost unique) comic store in Lyon (France) an OHC : x-men "with great power" by Victor Gischler and Chris Bachalo ; i had no clue it existed ! After checking on the Net, i saw it was a whole series. Do you know that ? Is it worth i grab the book ? Thanx
JBNM in omnibus ?
Hello, since i love John Byrne (especially when he does both script and art), i am glad when i read some questions about him (like what you answered on "Alpha Flight"). Now here is MY question : after his six "Next Men" TPB (i do not count the new series) and the three OHCs, could a complete omnibus (including the new series) ever come out ? - and, of course, i did not start by telling you that but i truly love also reading your blog and think you do rule !!
So I made this video to show off the massive stack of comics I haven’t read yet. Meant to be for fun. Somehow turned into a rant about “Extreme Couponing” by the end… anyway, check it out!
Incredible ! Amazing !! - and scary too... I think i can understand you since there are SO MANY books (comics, sure, and "normal" litterature also) on my shelves that i have not read yet. One thing i can say is that it's really bothering me ! So, it is really honest from you to confess (?) that and i do admire you for this, frankly.
