I'm an art blog posting and loving my art. I usually draw my OC's most of the time. I’m working on a book! 21

I've been working on this project for a while and I think it's time to show them off. These are propaganda/health and safety reminder posters for the Office for the Preservation of Normalcy, an organization that deals with the supernatural in a canon I'm working on. I have some lore I'm working on, but these posters will be the main thing that exists for now. The "sample" watermark is because I would like to sell higher-quality printouts and files in the future.

At this stage I'm looking for feedback. How do they look visually? Could a tagline be punchier? Please please let me know what you think.

A lovely wall of mushrooms I made as a very late mother's day gift to my mom!! I've been needing to redo the original one and she requested this. I'd say I'm pretty happy with the outcome!! I think Ink Caps are one of my favorite mushrooms now...

How do I write a Mafia story? Because I’m genuinely lost when it comes to research. I can’t find the information I’m looking for about the way it works and the positions! All I’m getting are famous mafias and guys with jersey accents. If it’s to much work for you, please don’t bother. I was just curious.

Hi :)

I do not have the time to really research it more than on a basis level, but when I was younger I had a phase where I loved to read non-fiction books about the mafia and so I’ll try to get you some information I remember.

How to write the Mafia

What is the mafia?

  • Plot twist: there is no the mafia anymore
  • it used to be exclusively about a criminal secret society in Sicily
  • other mafias are usually called by their region or country of origin (Japanese Mafia, Russian Mafia, etc.)
  • but they call themselves by their own terms (Cosa Nostra, Yakuza, etc.)
  • mafia describes a highly organized criminal network, often with international connections to other criminal networks and their own chapters in a lot of different countries
  • to go from a simple gang to a mafia, they have to be very powerful in their region and resourceful
  • they managed to infiltrate the political system in their region and became an economic player that shouldn’t be underestimated
  • the characteristics of most mafias are: a boss that stands over everyone, an initiation ritual before someone becomes part of the mafia, probably for life, a code of honor that says that members have to be silence when they get captured, and protection racket as their main form of criminal business
  • often the protection they pressure business owners into paying them for, is from themselves and they guarantee that they won’t attack the business or the owner’s family
  • this often happens in places where the police do not have the upper hand or cannot be trusted either
  • other types of criminal activities they are involved in: human trafficking, prostitution, gambling, loan sharking, drug-trafficking, fraud

How to write it?

  • decide on a specific mafia and become familiar with their hierarchies, their special rituals, their main business, their code of honor, what happens if they break it, etc.
  • if you want to have more creative freedom with your writing, establish your own mafia or create a new chapter to an existing one
  • but keep in mind that they need the characteristics from above

Characters

  • decide on who is the boss and how involved he still is (it’s mostly a boy’s club)
  • pick your main characters and decide on their position in the organization
  • what is their role, in what part are they involved?
  • who are the other members they mostly interact with?
  • do they have a lot of people they have to answer to?
  • how did they get into the group?
  • what are their motives?
  • how do they feel about the crimes they commit?
  • do their beliefs and morals still align with those of the group?
  • do they try to have a life outside of the group?
  • to give your life to a criminal network that functions as a family does not make life easy and you should show the highs and lows of being a professional criminal
  • think about the side characters
  • family plays an important part in the mafia, so make sure to include these people and show the dynamics between them
  • it’s important to give your characters their own personalities and individuality, so they become three-dimensional characters and not gangster clichés

Research

  • when it comes to writing a real, existing organization research is really important
  • do your research on the specific mafia you decide on, their rituals, businesses, modus operandi, etc.
  • all the groups have some things in common with each other, some form of organization, but they differ a lot in the way they operate and what they focus on
  • a story about criminals practically needs law enforcement
  • research the laws of the country your story takes place in, a lot of countries have their own laws for organized crimes, often just the affiliation with a criminal organization is a crime
  • for how it works exactly and the different positions inside the organization, I would take a look at Google Scholar, there are a lot of free books and articles that talk about those things in depth (you can just put in the specific mafia you’re searching for and some catchwords and you can even decide the period of time it was published to not use outdated info)

It’s not that in-depth, but I hope it still helps a little :)

Hello! Can I please request some mafia prompts?

Hi :)

Here is a post I did about how to write the mafia.

Not sure if you’re looking for real grim mafia prompts or like mafia AU prompts, so I try to keep this a little general.

Mafia Prompts

  • being the guard dog for the big boss is an honor and they will not let anything happen to them
  • trusting their life to the witness protection programme was a hard decision and they had to give up everything. When they see a familiar face at the local market, they ask themself if this was all worth it?
  • moving to a new country should come with a guide on how to act, when you think your nice new neighbors may be running the city
  • getting adopted into the local mafia has its pros and cons
  • there is a cigarette mafia, a car mafia, a human trafficking mafia - but this mafia specializes in something that most people didn’t even think would be this lucrative
  • life used to be normal just half a year ago, but now they are sitting in an interrogation room and getting asked by the district attorney, if they would be willing to become the crown witness

Have fun writing!

(wip) the finished pages of a school project that i have like 4 days to finish lmao (we were required to write and illustrate a whole children’s book n i have 8/17 pages done)

this is about 11.5 hours of work total? it’s barely been two days so i’ve been doing art fast. anygays the mc happens to resemble will wood because he is the only human i can draw with any sort of consistency right now (i am Physically ill) and also because the theme/message is based off of some of his music :)

hello jana! would you have any prompts for exes to lovers? i'm quite obsessed with that trope at the moment.

Hi :)

Here are some prompts for the trope!

Exes to Lovers Prompts

  • Having broken up, but still living in the same area they keep running into each other. At the park, the grocery store, the laundromat, … everywhere.
  • They are still in the same friend group and they want to make it work as friends. But hanging out all the time makes it hard to get over each other.
  • Person A moves to another apartment and finds some of Person B’s, their exes’ stuff while moving and the former lovers meet up for the first time since the break-up to exchange the goods.
  • While not having adopted it together, Person A’s pet becomes miserable after Person B stops being over, so finally they have to arrange for a meeting in a park, like two divorced parents.
  • They are still each other's emergency contact. Which becomes apparent when one of them ends up in the hospital.
  • Having their car breaking down by the side of the road is bad enough. Their ex being the one to come save them is even worse.
  • They had already booked everything for their friends' destination wedding before they broke up. To celebrate them and not lose their deposits they decide to still share the hotel room.
  • Person A’s family still invites Person B to all of their family events. And Person B actually goes.
  • They bought tickets for their favourite band’s concert one year in advance. It’s been a few months since their break-up and they believe the emotions have calmed down a bit, so they decide to still go together when the time comes. But maybe they don’t have calmed down that much, when their song comes on.
  • They know each other best. Even after their break-up their ex is still the first person they want to call when something good or bad happens.

Hope you enjoy them!
