The Wayward Soldier

The suspect in a Buffalo mass shooting reportedly live streamed the massacre on Twitch and posted a 106-page manifesto pushing a racist conspiracy theory prior to the attack.

"A man has opened fire at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York while live-streaming on Twitch, killing at least 10 people and injuring several others, local officials and witnesses say," BNO News reported Saturday. "A 106-page online manifesto, believed to have been uploaded by the shooter, explained that he was motivated by a conspiracy theory that white people are being replaced by other races. In the document, he says he is 18 years old and a self-described white supremacist and anti-semite."

J.J. MacNab, a researcher at George Washington University program on extremism, studied the 106-page manifesto allegedly posted by the shooter.

"He self identifies as a white supremacist fascist with Neo-Nazi beliefs who is anti "high fertility immigrants" under the white replacement theory. There are several 4chan markers," she explained. "He states that he was radicalized online on 4chan and was inspired by Brenton Tarrant's manifesto and livestreamed mass shooting in New Zealand."

I will forever respect Animorphs for tricking kids who are just really into animals to read a book series by going “Hey you, you daydream about what it’s like to be a dolphin or a bird or a wolf? Have I got a book for you!” and then slowly radicalizing them with 50+ books of “There are no winners in war. Whatever ‘victory’ you perceive comes at the cost of sacrificing your own morals and killing the part of you that is human. In the end you will resort to murder, torture and war crimes and the knowledge of what you have done will haunt you for as long as you live.”

I also respect the author for putting them all online for free

All the things I spent my 20s learning for the army has me feeling this way now. It’s like if they taught the fish everything there is to know about climbing trees and now the fish doesn’t know how to do normal fish things.

The soul suck is so real and I wish more people were honest about the fact that most of our depression and mental illness isn’t an individual ailment but a collective stare down of a future that seems increasingly pointless… Like actually it is very hard to live without family traditions and a purpose/Gods/something greater/collective vision and to design your life around individual accomplishment. For some reason we aren’t allowed to say this… the only acceptable causation is personal trauma and a “chemical imbalance”.

Pointless and dire. Our world is on fire, sometimes literally, and there's very little hope to go around. So not only do we no longer have the creature comforts of tradition and purpose, but we look around and see nothing but bad news. It would also figure that the poorest among us suffer the most, after all wasn't it the poor in the lower decks of the titanic that died first as the ship sank? Of course we're all depressed and dysfunctional.
