I’ve been watching a lot of movies & reading a lot of books. But this book, not the movie. This book has taught me to focus on myself and how to do things on my own.
Eat Pray Love (2010)
“When I get lonely these days, I think: So BE lonely. Learn your way around loneliness. Make a map of it. Sit with it, for once in your life. Welcome to the human experience. But never again use another person’s body or emotions as a scratching post for your own unfulfilled yearnings.”
— Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love
As I sat there working on transcriptions at my round table in the morning, what I would have settled for was not his friendship, not anything. Just to look up and find him there, suntan lotion, straw hat, red bathing suit, lemonade. To look up and find you there, Oliver. For the day will come soon enough when I’ll look up and you’ll no longer be there.
‘How you live your life is your business, just remember, our hearts and our bodies are given to us only once. And before you know it, your heart is worn out, and, as for your body, there comes a point when no one looks at it, much less wants to come near it. Right now, there’s sorrow, pain. Don’t kill it and with it the joy you’ve felt.’
Call Me By Your Name (2017) dir. Luca Guadagnino
I rewatched this again. The dad’s speech at the end had me in tears. This movie is just beautiful.
Red: bold, set in his ways, very grown-up, almost gruff and ill-tempered—stay away. Yellow: sprightly, buoyant, funny, not without barbs—don’t give in too easily; might turn to red in no time. Green, which he seldom wore: acquiescent, eager to learn, eager to speak, sunny—why wasn’t he always like this?

Take a closer look at yourself.
Do you always ask yourself, “why am I not..”
Why am I not that pretty?
Why am I not that free spirited?”
Why am I not that happy?
But why don’t we ever tell ourselves, “I am...”
I am pretty.
I am free spirited.
I am happy.
I am smart.
You are all those things & more. Take a quick look at yourself & stop thinking about what others think.
