I am so normal about Hozier's new album

Okay the thing about this song is that the Gaelic word in the song title means “the cool only that only water brings” which is a line in the chorus, and the song is addressed to a lover who grew up in a warm place and Hozier grew up in a cold place and the verses are about his lover learning to sleep in the cold and then Hozier learning to sleep in the summer heat, but the prechorus is about how there are things that you never have to learn and just know innately and Ireland is a cold place but they have this word for the cool only water can bring because that’s just something humans know instinctually even if they’ve never had a reason to learn it and he’s basically saying to his lover that their love “came easily” like something he never had to learn???!? And I’m just supposed to like??? Be a person now??? Go to work???

since a ton of people are getting into music as gaeilge because of hozier, can i recommend my fave artist, róisín seoighe? she's a native irish speaker and language ambassador whose lyrics often involve the preservation of irish culture and deep rage against colonization. níl mé marbh ("i'm not dead") makes me cry like a baby and sin do lamh ("reach out") makes me want to burn all of colonialism down. she's also done several collabs with imlé, another EXCELLENT irish language band that does modern-feeling rock and dance music! my fave of their collabs right now is ÉAD ("jealous").

both artists have less than 1,700 monthly listeners on spotify simply because they sing in irish & they deserve more bc their music Really Is Excellent. translations of many songs are google-able & when there Aren't english translations, it's really good practice for people learning irish!

sometimes you're alright and sometimes you finish rereading the graveyard book and nobody owens says "I want to see life. I want to hold it in my hands. You know seeing all of these articles coming out about what the pandemic did to young people's brains, and the harmful side effects of isolation in teenagers and young children have got me thinking about my childhood, the same issues I had growing up were a direct result of being isolated from being home-schooled but since nobody ever bothered to research the effects of prolonged isolation in homeschooled children, I’m just now figuring out that my childhood was bad and that most likely a large percentage of home-schooled children suffer from the same thing

just watched an analysis video about tumblr bringing back the unhealthy underweight girl aesthetic so. here to tell u to love ur body and embrace it at every fucking size. curvy, slim, tall, short, hourglass, pear, whatever. you’re beautiful wherever you fucking are. it is totally okay to work on yourself, but it doesn’t mean you need to hate where you are right now. and also please take care of yourself & your health. never subscribe to any kind of aesthetic that jeopardizes your well-being. pls. ily

Since it’s the Spooky Season, I’ve been thinking about The Haunting of Hill House again, and my main thoughts about Steven, which can be boiled down to this:

Good on him for realizing that it is entirely possible that mental illness runs in the family and that’s probably what happened to his mother and Nell, since nobody ever takes mental illness seriously.

some of you need to make your bed and have a shower with a soap that smells nice, and then sit in a chair near the window and have tea with milk and read a hardcover book and see how your creative block is after that tbh.

i'm not saying creative block isn't a real or difficult phenomenon. i'm saying creatives have a tendency to neglect themselves physically and emotionally in favor of manic bursts of productivity. a little softness and clean sheets and a bagel will go a long way. make a playlist and light the fancy candle you've been saving for a special occasion. life is a special occasion.
