hey ! i love you
THE BOY?!
I wanted to post "hide and peep with Cannoli" but since it wasn't working, each upload just increased the frustration until the last attempt was just "the boy", but tbf he is very boy
A whole bunch of Scottish wildcats were released in Cairngorms National Park today and I love how fucking angry they look.
They don't want you to see this boy
It's true
Why can't they just let us see the boy...
I've tried posting this super cute video of Cannoli like 5 times but every time I just get a replay error 😭
Was about to go to bed and opened mochi's tank to fill his water and say goodnight, and as soon as he heard my voice he came out of his cave 🥲
Pastrydad finally succumbed and let me do some dye on his hair. The upkeep for this is low-effort enough that it really won't make much of a difference to regular routine, just use a dab of that good old Fudge purple shampoo occasionally
Channelling some Tim Burton vibes

Hi :)
What substrate do you use for your leos? Mine have always been on paper towel but ive been heavily considering changing to something loose they can dig around in but it all seems so complicated
It is complicated! The easiest thing would just be to keep up with the paper towel or replace it with tile, and have a separate digging area, like a bowl or a tub, but if you're looking to do a full substrate change, there's a couple of things to keep in mind
- Loose substrate: not just straight play sand obviously, but some type of mix. There's a few brands that do like "desert" type mixes now (which is what I've got - a mix of a couple "desert/arid" subs), and something like that is good. Basically what you're wanting is something that's got a variety of sizes/types of grains, like sand, grit, eco earth, clay, bark chips, etc. so that it's not too easily ingestible.
- Ideally you combine that with areas of excavator clay or other hard-packed substrates for some variety, or you can combine it with tile, or a background, slate, etc.
- One thing to also keep in mind is that your heat source will depend on your substrate. For example, excavator clay heats up and retains enough heat that a ceramic heat emitter is preferred. For loose sub you're likely still using a heat mat, but that also depends on the type of tank, substrate depth, etc. I personally like to have a small tile over at the heat mat that I smush down so it's level with the substrate so that if there's not enough heat coming through, there's always some extra on the tile.
There's also a billion considerations if you go bioactive, but that's so complicated to get good info on it's like trying to solve the millennium puzzle, and I've personally yet to succeed in growing any plants or keeping any cleaner crews going in any of the leo tanks 😵💫
today's funky frog of the day is Probreviceps loveridgei; Loveridge's forest frog!!! these endangered amphibians live in small portions of tanzania. they're also known as loveridge's big-fingered frog!
I was cutting my hair last night, but some curling lead to me chopping too much on one side, so I had to just shorten it overall. Needs a bit of shaping (only cut wet thus far) so I'll probably go in with the razor on dry hair for some thinning and transitions. I could use a round of dye, but my roots are actually a good 3,5 cm long so I'll do those first
This fern just keeps going 😂 It grew up past the big bamboo, into the light, and just exploded! Biscotti seems to like it, lots of vines to crawl around on
I don't know unfortunately, I tried looking through some receipts but I couldn't find out what fern it is 😔 For the lighting, it's probably the Arcadia Jungle Dawn LED that's doing the most, but there's also a UVB bulb in there (which heats up a little, so any fern that gets too close to it gets crisped up with a tan)
