honestly, one of the most effective motivators for recovery is just getting pissed the fuck off. how many things have you missed out on because of your illness? way too fucking many! and I don’t mean just physical things like going out for dinner or drinks or going shopping or on a summer trip to the lake, but also mental things. your ability to enjoy a fancy ice cream cone or your mom’s homemade mac and cheese. your ability to have fun when you go to the pool or wear the cute swimsuit you got for your birthday. the number of nights you spent crying on the bathroom floor instead of in bed watching movies or reading good books. all of this time, these memories, gone. fucking destroyed by a fucking disease. get out of my head, bitch! let me live my life!! I am fucking tired of listening to your bullshit hateful commands!! fuck you, ED, and all of your lies. I don’t think this relationship is going to work out and i am LEAVING your sorry ass. bye, bitch!
Listen to me. This is your life– no one else’s. At the end of the day, it is you who has to be happy with the choices you are making, food you are eating, things you are doing, goals you are pursuing. Do not let the opinions and judgments of others stop you from doing what you feel and know in your heart is right for you. Eat the food that makes you feel best. Do what makes you feel at peace. Surround yourself with people who make you feel good, who make you laugh, who sincerely make you smile. Go after what you want– not because someone else is telling you to, but because you want to. Listen to that inner voice, trust your gut, and trust yourself.

Things I wish people understood about eating disorders:
1. Most people with eating disorders don’t literally starve themselves, they restrict. Just because you see us eating doesn’t mean we’re getting better.
2. The horrible, absolutely torturous feeling we get after we eat. No matter what it is, how many Calories… it’s always there.
3. You. Don’t. Have. To. Be. Thin. To. Have. An. Eating. Disorder. God someone needs to scream this one from the top of a building.
4. It’s life consuming. Food is always on my mind.
What I’ll eat next, when I’ll eat next, how I’ll burn it off
5. I can’t just ‘snap out of it’ and I can’t ‘just eat’
These are two of the worst things you can say.
6. I understand what my disorder is doing to me mentally and physically, believe me I do.
♡
7. It’s not a fucking diet
8. We don’t have to be working out 24/7 to be considered mentally ill
9. Some days we can eat a whole bar of chocolate and some days we have a breakdown over a single apple slice, it’s not all black and white.
10. Not everyone with an ED has anorexia or bulimia, in fact, BED is the most common ED.
11. this isn’t for attention :)
12. it’s not just cis white girls
13. shaming us for it or making us feel guilty won’t make us stop, it makes us isolate ourselves even more, making the disorder even worse. we know we’re hurting people. we know. that’s the problem.
14. It’s not really the food or the possible weight gain, that is scary, there’s always a bigger and deeper reason for the ed behavior.
