they put on this cute little performative facade of progressiveness and while they rb shallow positive memes about lesbians (that are actually often thinly veiled with lesbphobic stereotypes), their treatment of lesbians in such a matter borders on fetishistic and is devoid or actual compassion for our struggles. at the same time theyll compare all lesbians to terfs (despite terfs being mainly het), saying they “dont trust people with lesbian urls/icons because they may be terfs” and completely ignoring how many trans and nb lesbians there are. theyll also claim that they dont like lesbians who are hairy man-hating dykes, or really theyll hate any lesbian thats open about their lesbianism/feminism and isnt generally passive. so theyll jump on any excuse to make fun of gnc lesbians for being unhygienic once something bad happens and its now considered pc to do so (butch pal discourse). theyll make lesbians out to be either completely clueless idiots and infanize us (”useless lesbians”) or theyll make us out to be predatory creeps who do nothing but fuck women and hate men, and theyll try to pass off both of these things as cute memes to show how theyre our allies. for the most part their love for lesbians is just for the quiet ones that never talk about their lesbianism outside of memes so they can say theyve got a lesbian friend, one of the “good ones”, look how cool and progressive they are. theyll complain about the “toxic lesbian community” even though theyre not a part of it and thus have no actual experience with it, if lesbians having fellowship and solidarity with other lesbians because of their shared experience and support of each other is “toxic” to you its probably because youre a lesbphobe and you just dont like the idea of lesbians in general, and lesbians calling you out for this doesnt make them toxic either lol
so many non-lesbians on tumblr sweep all this under the rug while they rb their “funky little lesbian” memes, believing thatll cover it up or make up for it, ignoring actual lesbians, and still thinking theyre the best allies.
edit: just to be clear im not saying “dont make lets go lesbian memes” those are perfectly fine and harmless on their own, however if thats the EXTENT of your allyship and support of lesbians and the rest of your actions reflect lesbphobia… rbing lets go lesbian memes or w/e wont make up for it. and when non-lesbians make certain jokes (ex. useless lesbian or man-hating lesbian jokes) its not ok! those are stereotypes that youre not allowed to joke about ESPECIALLY if youre a man (yes, even if youre a gbt man! it doesnt make you mlm wlw solidarity with us, sorry). you can make positive lesbian jokes of course, but only once you actually put in an effort to be a good ally and listen to lesbians, all lesbians. doesnt matter if theyre butch, femme, neither, trans, nb, gnc, they/he/she, or anything else, if youre not a lesbian you open your ears to what we have to say if you wanna be an ally. making memes while ignoring us aint allyship. thats performative progressiveness, you dont care about us you care about your image.
