a post-doc was doing a guest seminar at my institute and at the beginning of his presentation he was explaining why he chose birds for his evolutionary analysis - so he said "well first of all, because birds are the best and most interesting animals and it's fun to study them" and a few professors in the room gave him a very serious nod

#this is how it is studying any zoological field

ugh i fell asleep listening to the hbomberguy plagiarism video, and for some reason that prompted my brain to have a nightmare where hbomberguy made a video titled "the scariest stories ever written", and it was genuinely terrifying? one of the scariest nightmares i've had in a real long time. was just him giving a summary and analysis of the stories, with illustrations from their books, and like. live-action movie adaptation clips except like. i was in the movie clips

i can't remember any of them now (this is very much a good thing). it was a really good video tho. I would've watched it if it was real and would've deeply regretted it hdsdfhdsf

#i know that one of the stories had a plagiarism scandal (i guess the video made it into my nightmare a bit)#and was subsequently removed from everywhere it was posted online#so the only way to read it was to contact its author and he would mail you a letter containing a handwritten version of the story

#literally tho#i still wear a mask at my job by choice#and i live in a rural conservative town so. the local folks are Very Unhappy that i still mask. as if it affects them in any way at all.#anon hate is nothing when you have to deal with Angry Middle-Aged Trump Dads in your face#had a guy go BALLISTIC in my line the other day bc i had to scan his id to sell him alcohol - that's the store policy to avoid counterfeits#and he just started going off about america turning communist and terrorism and getting offended by me wearing a mask??

the structure of columbo is so fascinating to me. it's a murder mystery but upside down. they start the show by depicting, in minute detail, exactly what the crime was, who did it, how, and why. and then for an hour and a half, you do not watch columbo solve the case. he did that already. often almost immediately. instead you watch him slowly, carefully, methodically tear down every single excuse, cover, and alibi the killer could possibly have until nothing is left but the truth. it's not about solving the mystery it's about watching this funny little man run circles around people who think they're better than him

caine saying npcs sticking around is bad because then he can’t remember who is real and who isn’t better be foreshadowing to one of cast members being fake

assuming the show is heading in a direction of everyone escaping, this would be great potential for a scene where everyones leaving but one of them Cant. because they Aren’t A Real Person.
