Yes you are absolutely correct! Gege （哥哥）and xiong （兄） technically have the same meaning of ‘brother’ but gege is often used in a flirtatious manner by those talking to their crush or when they are teasing.

Hi! I've been reading up on some of your informative posts and wanted to ask: I know that you said shào yé and gongzi can be used in similar circumstances. Can I ask: are they totally interchangeable or is there context for when one is more appropriate than another? Thank you!
Hello! I find that they are very similar in meaning but as you move toward more recent times - say the 1900s - you see less of the use of gongzi (公子). Shaoye (少爷）is now more commonly used as a term to refer to the son of a family.
