You want some important advice?

Hey. I havent been active in a while and I apologize for that. Been a stressful month. Anyways I’m back with some advice that will hopefully be helpful :)

- Having a bad week does not mean you’re bad at managing it.

- Theres no reason to be ashamed, but it’s okay to not want to talk about it or be an advocate

- sometimes it’s okay to put insulin after and just worry about eating first.

- your mental health is just as important as your physical health

- you dont owe anybody an explanation but if you want to explain it, that’s okay

- you should really change your Lancet

- dont stress about going to your endo. They’re there to help you be healthy and happy with yourself, not to judge you.

- as much as I hate to admit it, cookies are not good things to eat to being you up from a low. Have some juice.

- fruits, while healthy, have lots of carbs. Count for them appropriately

- peanut butter is a good snack, low carb and lots of protein.

- stay positive :)

what’s one assumption you had about type 1 diabetes/one thing you always wanted to know but felt too shy or scared to ask?

drop it in my ask box, feel free to go on anon ♡ I’ve been a diabetic for about 15 years now and I’m consistently surprised at some of the things people think about it!

me: i have an autoimmune disease that destroyed the beta cells in my pancreas, so my body doesn’t make insulin anymore and i have to inject it 24/7 to stay alive
people: aw that sounds awful! :(
me: yeah its called diabetes
people: haha so did you used to be fat or something? my grandma has that. what did you do to deserve it? try cinnamon tea!

imagine if a vampire had to date a diabetic. like the fact that they would have to smell ur bitch ass prick ur finger before every meal. tell me edward cullen wouldn’t be quaking

Excuse me but concept: Diabetic Alert Vampire™.

“No, wait, we need to stop.”

“Why? What’s wrong?”

“You’re going to need some gummies.”

“Urgh please, I’m fine, I feel fine, I’m not even beeping yet!”

“In three… two…”

BEEP BEEP BEEP.

“Son of a bitch.”

The fact that Selma Blair, a successful, wealthy, white actress, “cried with relief” when she was diagnosed with MS. After YEARS of suffering, not being believed or taken seriously by her doctors (who I’m sure were some of the ‘“best” doctors available) and being left to suffer as her illness worsened should really shed a light on the systematic issues chronically ill people are facing. It’s 2019. It shouldn’t be this hard.
