i keep seeing jokes about Imagine Dragons showing their support by performing for WGA strikers, like about how bad their music/singing is and jokes about how it’ll hurt the movement and normally i’m neutral to the hatred of popular/used to be popular things, but GOD. as a queer ex-mormon i so badly wish more people knew what this group and what specifically Dan Reynolds has done to support queer kids

I absolutely hate how people took a kind, progressive, good band and decided to give it the nickelback treatment.

(Frankly I don’t even necessarily think they’re bad, sound wise, either. But I guess music is subjective so if you disagree that’s your right, just don’t treat it as some kind of unilateral truth)

Dan Reynolds has been an outspoken ally for a while.

“Believer” is about queer religious trauma. “Love” is about queer acceptance. He called out Eminem over homophobia. He was part of the Loveloud Festival, that raised over a million dollars for queer charities like the Trevor Project.

Gee, it’s sure a funny coincidence he and ID got branded as cringe. I wonder what motive someone could possibly have to do so.

I got the honour of seeing Imagine Dragons live, and, a. they’re fucking GOOD what the FUCK especially live, like their music style has changed over time and it’s fine to not like that but the live performance was just so passionate and wonderful, and b, I can’t coiuldn’t take any pictures of it but one of the guitarists has a trans flag guitar with a trans flag strap and it’s so fucking beautiful and I nearly cried when I saw that clear and open support in such a subtle way. I’m glad someone else put into words how fucking annoying that attitude has been towards them with the strike.

Every time there's a big writer's strike or whatnot it becomes starkly clear how many self-proclaimed leftists think that only people who perform manual labour which results in a physical product that you can hold in your hands count as workers and everybody else is a parasite of some description.

i am enjoying the tags but saying "all of them" is a copout answer because i said MOST. so youd need at least a passing knowledge of fandom landscapes but they cant all be mischaracterized the exact same amount. and this is also across all source materials (boom could be an exception seeing as how its characters are overexaggerated to the point of parody on purpose) so gameverse archie fleetway sonic x et cetera. i also specified the metric as being the ratio of bad takes to number of fans because spinoff exclusive characters obviously have less fans, but if the entire fandom misinterprets them i think that also deserves consideration like with scourge

the way people talk about writers (that aren't ken penders) makes my blood fucking boil.

publically chastising people you decided you know and don't like because of art they made about sonic the hedgehog is ridiculous. dedicating multi-paragraph essays and curated posts to how much you hate a specific writer is cruel, unnecessary, and makes the people who work on sonic's lives FUCKING MISERABLE. saying "i'm not a fan of ian flynn" is one thing, constantly talking about how much you fucking hate his guts in detail is absurd

I kinda wonder how much they paid Roger Craig Smith to come back, cuz you KNOW he knows we hate him cuz some of us write rants longer than the bible, Koran and star wars encyclopedia combined and I've seen people insult him to his face on his twitter so that kind of hatred had to be part of the reason he retired from Sonic. I think part of it is "Well, everyone knows them, ergo they're celebrities, ergo they're rich, ergo they don't deserve to have their feelings considered" Same with Iizuka, like how many people drag his name through the mud? Which is hilarious cuz half the shit ain't even his fault! Hell, the same can be said of all the scapegoats in part of the Sonic the Hedgehog machine! People are making a collaborative effort as subordinates to SEGA and they can't do "what's right" unless they get the okay. Tho I guess you can't harass the CEO of SEGA on twitter, huh, so all that's left is attacking the little people who have to ask every day if this is worth putting up with Cuz you can't just go offline if you want to be in the industry now, that's reserved for weirdos that don't care if they make it or not. I don’t see a lot of people talking about the fact that Shadow didn’t actually seek revenge out of his own volition. Gerald literally brainwashed him while he was in stasis without his knowledge or consent.

A huge part of Shadow’s character arc was the reveal that, unlike what he’d believed, Maria didn’t want him to avenge her and the people on the ARK. Gerald actively altered Shadow’s last memory of Maria so Shadow would destroy the Earth. It was always Gerald who was consumed by his lust for revenge and he projected all of that onto Shadow. Literally the moment Shadow realizes that the real Maria actually wanted him to save and protect people he resolves to save the Earth.

I don’t know whether or not they’ll keep this in the movie, but I hope so. Personally, Shadow realizing that outside forces have been controlling and manipulating him his whole life and learning to choose his own path sounds more interesting to me than the umpteenth “vengeance bad”-story.
