#my wife is on the SOR for being gay #no joke #she hit on a girl in a straight bar once #in 1997 #and while the girl was into it #the off duty cop sitting nearby was not #and so he arrested her for ‘soliciting homosexual activity’ #which in our state was still a felony #in 1997 (and would remain so until Lawrence v Texas in 2003) #and since ‘soliciting homosexual activity’ was a felony and a sex crime #she got put on The List #she is still on there to this day #because it costs MONEY to ask a judge to take you off #and she has tried four times#since 2003 #to get taken off the SOR #but every time the judge has said something like ‘no you pled guilty to the crime i can’t possibly take you off the sex offender registry’ #with no acknowledgement of what the actual crime was #(the crime of being a butch lesbian hitting on a cute girl who was into it) #(in 1997)

Younger queer people need to realize that the SOR being used against queer people simply for being queer isn’t some ancient history thing. It still impacts queer people today. And it can quite easily be used that way again.

One thing that a lot of transmasc people struggle with before they fully realize they’re trans is the question of “do I hate being treated like a woman because women are treated like shit, or do I hate being treated like a woman because I’m not a woman?”

and one method (though not entirely foolproof) to figuring that out is asking “would I be upset if another girl was treated like this?”

like, I’d be just as mad if some dude said “you can’t do math because you’re a girl” to a female classmate as I would if he said it to me

however, I never got uncomfortable at waiters calling my female friends “m'am”, I was only uncomfortable when they called *me* that

and obviously everyone’s feelings are different and there’s tons of variables at play, but if you find that there’s a lot of the second scenario going on with you, there’s a good chance you’re not entirely cis

Where was this post 18 god damn months ago.

Waltz got a Rainbow Dash-themed dog toy today and she has already destroyed it god bless

My dog is not homophobic she would have destroyed the dog toy regardless of its sexuality

Sounds like something only someone with a homophobic dog would say

throwback to last month when i fell asleep on the couch and when i woke up my first instinct was to take a pic of my cat sleeping across me but ended up flashbanging her instead

'you have x many followers' those r cadavers girl. corpses. abandoned vessels of blogs who once were. its the apocalypse in there. its me and my 5 mutuals against the world.

TV Executives: “if the strike goes in, you won’t get new episodes of your favorite shows! You won’t get new movies you were looking forward to! Isn’t that terrible, what the writers are doing to you?”

Me: Bitch, that might have been an effective threat in 2007, but we have since survived a Covid shutdown and discovered ways to amuse ourselves while we waited, we can outwait this shit, too. I got a pile of shows saved I haven’t even watched yet, and a Mt. TBR waiting for me.

Compensate (and respect) your writers for their work, assholes.

It's just hilarious that they're trying to pull this whole "but your favorite shows!" nonsense.

Oh, you mean the shows you cancel after the third season no matter how good they're doing to avoid paying writers residuals? The shows that get produced and then never aired because you found a nice tax writeoff? The shows whose writing suffers because the writers' room got six weeks to write before getting booted and making the showrunner adapt all their scripts? The shows you straight up pulled from your streaming service to scam their crews out of rewatch money?

I will happily sacrifice my shows for the writers that gave them to me, no questions needed, but if anyone tries to say that the blatantly terrible way streaming treats its writers is somehow beneficial to shows, remind them of Infinity Train and Batgirl. That's the ideal they're pushing towards if someone doesn't say no, and we should be thankful that the writers are doing that for us.

Concept: reverse exposition-bot NPC companion. They know fuck-all, and all of your dialogue options with them consist of the player character explaining stuff to them. The game's lore changes on the fly so that whatever you tell them retroactively becomes correct.

I don't know; I kind of think that our culture is based around systematic denial of human limitations. I mean, there's the eight-hour work day (which is about 4 hours longer than most people are consistently able to remain productive); buffing your qualifications on job applications (which everyone needs to do to some extent, because everyone else is doing it); the expectation of multitasking, even though it's not really possible; academics are running around with impostor syndrome, ultimately because there's only so many books that an individual is capable of reading, while a bunch of liars and grifters pretend that they're experts at *everything* and are held up as thought leaders. Billionaires are held up as if they're just incredibly hard workers, photoshopped movie stars held up as if they're just incredibly beautiful. We feel guilty for not being something that never has and can never exist.

I find it a bit odd how many people are agreeing with this with variants on "Humans are not machines." I mean, I understand what you mean as an idiom, but my point here is precisely that humans *are* machines.

The thing is, you don't just leave a machine running and expect it not to break down; you don't neglect downtime and maintenance and wear and tear and act all offended when the machine stops working optimally; you certainly don't run a machine on an empty tank of fuel and expect it to keep running. Humans are *absolutely* machines! The problem is that we're machines who are commanded to be angels! We're treated like we all have magic will-power that can somehow overwhelm the limitations of nature, when we *don't*. And this "human as angels" idea is so pervasive in our culture that we all just lie or deceive ourselves into believing that we *are* angels and act ashamed that we're not.

I know you've said that you'll consider Cookie Clicker "done" once all buildings have completed minigames, but I have to wonder - do you think it'll ever TRULY be done? Do you think you've created your own eternal prison you'll never be able to escape? Will the calling remain to come back every so often and add a new thing or two, even if it's just a couple of silly upgrades?

simply put i'll consider cookie clicker done in the same way that terraria is currently on its 6th final update

The cool thing about writing something completely without peer review like fanfiction and also writing many hundreds of thousands of words of it is I have no idea what turns-of-phrase I have accidentally completely invented. I have no editor to tell me "Chrissy literally no one has ever said these words together."

And I'm positive these exist in my writing because there's creativity and metaphor and [insert a bunch of literary devices] in writing that often call for using words in atypical but evocative ways. Narrative style already goads you to walk close to the cliff and stretch beyond the literal meaning of what you're saying because the human brain delights in a certain amount of poetic lenience and I'm positive, I'm positive I've tumbled over that cliff. Invented some turn of phrase which felt right at the time and then retroactively convinced myself that was a thing people say because I kept on using it.

And I think about this most of all when readers have asked permission to translate my writing (always yes!) because I always imagine them stumbling on such a phrase and going "ah hmm, this one is strange. let me look into what this could mean so I can find the right translation for it" and it's all bullshit. pure bullshit. I'm sorry for the words I've said that had the right vibes in my own brain and yet mean literally nothing. It will happen again.

letting a traumatized character have their happy ending where they can recover from their trauma will always be a thousand times more powerful than killing them off for shock value

I love when information revealed at the end of a story recontextualizes something said or done at the beginning. Like yes queen make the story a loop let the story keep developing even though the book is closed and the credits are rolling. The story never ends it just starts over.

"I wish I could make a game but get other people to do all the art and writing and programming and" you literally can. It's called being the project manager, and all you have to do to get this job is be willing to write all the emails, make all the phone calls, set up and moderate all the group chats, schedule and lead all the meetings, monitor and follow up on all the deadlines, coordinate with all relevant third parties, and personally chase down the answer to every question that anyone might conceivably ask about anything. If that sounds like your idea of a good time, there are any number of projects that would love to have you on board.

(If you're thinking "wait, I've seen lots of indie game projects with nobody doing that job", that's one of the primary reasons most indie game projects with team sizes larger than 3–5 people fail. Without a dedicated PM role, the best you can hope for is that one of your team members is an absolute rock star who's able to do full-time PM work on top of their creative role, and if you're very lucky they manage to stick it out for a couple of projects before they burn out and the team falls apart. In a more typical case, everybody wants to be a creative and nobody does the PM work, and then your Kickstarter campaign gets to be the subject of a wildly speculative what-went-wrong video by a YouTube personality who talks like a Sesame Street character.)
