i think tenderness is maybe the most important thing in the world

i am tenderized and tenderfooted and tenderhearted!! i hope you are all being, and doing well at it!!! i hope you’re eating and breathing and thinking and sleeping. i hope you can find rest when you need it, and warmth when you deserve it (which is always) i hope you can always find a soft thing to press your skin to for no reason but simple pleasure. i am thinking just-picked rose petals, dandelion wishes, pussywillow pod-thoughts all in your direction. i am sending you merino wool, and well-loved sweatshirts, and the velvety fine fur of a white-faced old dog. i am sending you the first breath of sharp air on a snow day, for whenever you need its chill. i am sending you the feeling in my heart, spilling up into your chest & out of your smiles, for whenever you need its dizzy warmth. mostly i am just sending you thanks, for being you, and for reading these words, and for trying. everything is very hard sometimes, most times, so i am sending you absolutely everything soft and tender to press around its edges like little soap-bubble circles of bubblewrap, and it’s okay if they pop. we can always find more

“I can’t help but say… he has wrought the most terrible things. He was a man who has, here and there, drawn in the edges of the world. Now and then, darkened the skies a little, closed men’s hearts. Fed that dark flame in men, the hard, mean, hard, relenting flame that keeps their hearths warm while another grows cold, their grain stashed while another goes hungry. And even has the temerity to tell that hard… funny, yes, funny, but hard joke about the man in the cold. You can get a little high, a little mighty, when you’re warm. Oh, yes, he— he gave away a few million of his billions, but he was not a generous man. He was mean, and he made but a mean estimation of the world. And he fed a certain kind of meagerness in men.”             SUCCESSION 4.09 “Church and State”

thinkin about a baby of my acquaintance & how when her parents are hanging out & chatting, she'll almost fully participate in the conversation--politely watching who's talking, saying something approx the same length & tone of what her parents are saying, occasionally using a questioning cadence & looking at someone specific for an answer, laughing when they laugh--doing everything except actually using any recognizable language

this baby also once tipped me a granola bar at work. she'd been watching everyone in line very closely & when it was her parent's turn, at exactly the right point in the transaction for a tip, she pickpocketed her mom's granola bar & shoved it in the tip har

The closing outfit of "Dead Air" (Season 2, Episode 11) is a dramatic chiffon black and white beaded frock, loosely belted with a matching belt and tassel.

Known as the "Let's Misbehave Frock", this look is featured in a duet sung between Phryne and Inspector Jack Robinson as they conclude their case and celebrate Dot and Hugh's engagement.

The dress itself has a chiffon base, and the overdress has glass black and white beads laid out in striped pattern. The white net insert worn underneath is decorated with pearls and black beaded fleur-de-lis.

"It's made from a very dramatic, piece of beaded fabric with a terrific weight and swing to it. The dress was designed with a late 1920's cut and the whole flow of the piece dictates the way the fabric is used, no darts, and only one seam. The fabric for this dress came from Rome and the beads for the belt came from [a] London store called The Smart Haberdasherer." - Marion Boyce, Costume Exhibition Catalogue

Miss Fisher accessorizes with silver t-strap heels with pointed toes, and a jeweled hair slide shaped like a butterfly with extra loops on either side. She also a pair of black onyx earrings with beveled points and silver clasps.

Yesterday’s t-shirt of the day award goes to the woman in a burgundy t-shirt, lettered in the style of a state college name, but the name of the school was “Fugue State.”

it's amazing how ordinary objects can become so significant to only the owner

when my aunt's best friend passed away, my younger brother was four years old. at his funeral, my brother went up to her and gave her a nickel. he told her very solemnly that it would make her feel better. she smiled for the first time in days, and tucked it in her wallet.

when my brother was 22, his best friend passed away unexpectedly. my aunt drove three hours to be there for him at the funeral. she went up to my brother, gave him a big hug, and then gave him a nickel. it was the same nickel; she had kept it in her wallet for 18 years, and now it's on a necklace that he never takes off.

what i'm trying to say is that the love you put into the world will always find its way back to you.
