you know what bothers me the most about the way you, readers, treat writers here? it’s the fact that you have the nerve (and time!) to demand, disrespect, and send hate to these kind souls but won’t use those lazy fingers for less than a fucking second to reblog the damn fic (that, mind you, must’ve taken days to be written, edited and revised) you just finished reading.

do you see this? this is your doing. next time you wonder why they haven’t posted/updated a fic, i want you to know exactly whose fault that is.

fanfic culture has been dying for years now, and that is on every single one of you who do not bother to support the people who keep your favorite fan spaces alive for free.

before you leave this post, i want you to ask yourself this: if you were in the shoes of the artists that share their creations here, how would you feel if your art was consumed like a fucking tiktok and then instantly forgotten with not a single ounce of feedback for the thing you spent so much time working on? it’s not so easy when it happens to us, huh?

as sad as it makes me to see people i admire leaving, i honestly feel relieved for them. why? because no one deserves to be treated like this. and before you dare to think to yourself “this isn’t affecting me, why should i care?”, remember: the person responsible for sharing your favorite works on here might be the next one leaving.

as a fanfic writer! who has a few semi-abandoned fics! if you do this i will personally bite you with my teeth. you are disrespecting art and the love people put into their work by pretending that an AI can even compare to it

I'll try to explain this calmly.

Much of the best fanfic out there is good because it's written by someone with years of writing experience. Most people with years of writing experience are adults. Most adults need to spend at least some of their time working on things other than fanfiction so that they can stay clothed and fed. If it's a good fic, it's extremely likely that it will update slowly for this and other reasons.

Maybe you should consider letting the author know that there is an audience for the next update rather than feeding their work into an AI without their permission! This seems like an obvious thing to me but it's clear from the original post that is not true.

I think the smug expression in the photo is... well, I was about to say "the worst part", but obviously the worst part is the practice.
