A stranger across the room, with a fringed haircut and smirk to match. His name was Dan Howell and he sat across the aisle, and his medium was chalk pastels.

For an hour and a half every other day I’d half work on my projects and half watch him work on his, always so focused and diligent but somehow making conversation with people around him at the same time. And he never turned anything in on time and always had excuses but he was friendly even if he seemed like one of the kids to get into trouble; he seemed like good trouble and I wanted to know him.

But I was Phil Lester, and watercolors are easily overlooked for the chalk pastels.
