I watched bnha 4 months ago also read the manga and really REALLY enjoyed it, I shipped bkdk before watching it and was so satisfied while reading, but immediately went to the fandom just find out that this series is already ruined for me, I don’t enjoy it anymore I’m so distracted by the hateful things till the point they started effecting me mentally, to put it simple i want to forget everything and enjoy every weekly chapter again, what should I do? I really don’t want to drop BNHA
I understand where you’re coming from. I’ve felt this same way in the past, and honestly still do on occasion. Participating or engaging in fandom can be a fun experience, but it can also be super draining and just plain bad for your mental health. So here are two things I’ve learned to do over the years so I don’t experience burnout:
1. Pace yourself, and 2. Spread your interests.
What I mean by the first is that you shouldn’t try to take in too much at once. Limit your interactions on social media. Don’t read too many articles or fanfiction in one day. Take some time to step away from your computer and take a walk, cook a meal, play with a pet, just something else to distract yourself. By directing all your focus on one single pastime, you start to lose focus on the big picture. Which leads into my latter point:
Don’t hyper-focus. Spending all your time and energy on fandom is just not productive, because you need to divide your energy throughout the day in order to work, play, eat, clean, socialize, and even sleep. Especially to avoid burnout on a series, try to watch multiple shows or read multiple books at different points during the week. Even I have to take a break from anime sometimes, and it usually helps you appreciate it more when you come back. Watching The Good Place or playing Smash Ultimate really lets me mellow out, and it’s fun!
I’d also like to leave you with some personal advice that comes with a big YMMV tag on it, but for real: fuck anyone’s opinions but yours. No one can tell you how to watch a show or read a manga or write a headcanon or ship so-and-so characters. You do you. Because what the fuck do they care? You don’t owe them jack.
What you do or how you experience HeroAca or any other series comes down to you. If you wanna ignore most of the fandom and read it weekly with every issue of Jump, then go for it. Create your own safe space and enjoy yourself. That’s why we read manga in the first place, right? To enjoy a good story. You should too, and don’t let anyone ruin that experience for you.
