Damn, what a hook. If I hadn’t already known any lore from Fallen London or the Sunless series this would’ve pulled me in.
I have to admit, I hadn’t expected this phrase to pop up in game, but now that it has, I can’t help but laugh
Just bought Mask of the Rose today! Incoming screenshots! If you’re not interested in it, please blacklist #MotR and #Mask of the Rose
I hope somewhere along the great hellbound railway, there's a place in the neath that has cows, that is visible enough for people to look out the train window to go "look, cows!!"
I think the people deserve at least that
Fallen London writing is 30% the most bone chilling terror you've ever experienced, 20% soul altering beautiful and poigiant prose, and 50% your character and the narrator looking at each other and trying to decide if the funny option is worth suffering the consequences of your actions
so glad that’s coming across
I’ve been playing Sunless Sea again. I do love the way that, in this game, sunrise is one of the most terrifying possible events.
(It’s not actually that bad, mechanically, but is bad on a meta level, when you realise that what you’re watching is presumably the Dawn Machine almost cranking itself up. Which would be bad. THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SU….)
They let you choose what you want to be called in Fallen London too, but this is a nice addition.
Oh dear, learning about creatures whose whole existence is defined as Shame touched me on a very personal level again. I want to hug them and tell them that no matter what those shiny bastards above think, they’re not Shames; they’re Wonders. (Also I’d like to introduce this particular one to a certain new City. They seem to have a bit in common.)
If you ever hear someone bemoaning about how games these days are too easy and “back in my day, we had to die fifty times to pass a single level!”, point them in the direction of Sunless Sea and see how long it takes for them to throw their computer against the wall.
