My toxic trait is that I get really upset when people, friends, coworkers, family, etc forget I exist and fail to include me but also if they had tried to I would 100% have said no please stop bothering me

I've never used ingramsparks before and I just got to the pricing part of setting up my book there, and it's making me want to cry y'all. I'm trying to keep the cost of this book down for readers but in order to make $0.06 cents per paper copy on this book it has to sell for $7.30, and the only way ive been able to get it down so low is to make it more difficult to distribute and only offer 35% wholesale discount to bookstores, which then means any indie bookstore would have to eat half of the 55% wholesale discount they usually get.

Idk I'm just at such a loss for how to make this sustainable for me and my readers and indie bookstores when it's like this. This is why soany self pub authors are stuck at Amazon because at least KDP doesn't gouge you for print copies, but youre also massively limited on who can get your books. Not to mention being limited to Kindle unlimited on ebooks while the per page read is at an all time low, when it's still the main ebook retailer. None of this is even touching the barrier costs of getting a book edited or formatted or covered, none of that even touches the thousands of hours writing a book takes.

Do you think there's a medeival times version of wrestling's kayfabe?

The real mortifying ordeal of being known is when you write batshit monsterotica for a side hustle and you think you're having fun writing whatever cursed shit comes to mind and then you have to hire an editor to make your nonsense presentable, but then they highlight the phrase "Cum in me Vladdy" and point out that "come" is the verb and "cum" is a noun, but it's up to you, so you end up having to justify liking cum for the vibes

This is the first time an editor has made me a style sheet, and she noted all the characters and thr descriptions I gave them at the top. So the first thing I saw when I opened the edits she gave me back was "Main character has small breasts" and like I appreciate the attention to continuity, but it also made me sit down and have a long think about what I'm doing with my life

Ain't an "AI" in the world could successfully replace a good writer. If you would unironically read books written by an "AI" trying to imitate a given author, then sorry but you got shit taste and clearly have the shallowest possible appreciation for that author's work.

All the machine does is put words in a probable order, that's it. No consideration given to plot, themes, sentence structure, flow, allusions, symbolism, imagery, blocking -- nothing. Like eating a 3D printed ramen packet and calling it food.

i think as a writer, the older you get and the more you read, the more you realize there are very few actual truly bad ideas. which is a relief. but! the other thing you learn is that stories live and die on the execution and ha ha. lemme tell you. unfortunately. there are lots and lots of bad ways to execute an otherwise fine idea

all i want to to do is paint little flowers and plays sims 4 but i've got ✨self imposed deadlines✨

Witchcraft Books Aren't Free. Pay Your Writers.

Since it seems some people still need telling , this is your regularly-scheduled reminder that it’s not okay to illegally download and distribute free copies of recently-published books from a niche market where the authors depend directly on monthly royalties to pay their bills.

Books are a luxury. If you can’t afford a title, save your pennies or check out a copy from your local library. There are plenty of free resources and public domain texts available in the meantime.

It’s worth mentioning that plenty of authors in the witchcraft and pagan markets make a point of providing free resources and advice to the community on a regular basis, myself included. To take that information and then turn around and steal from us on top of it is not only petty, it’s cruel, especially considering the financial hardship we’re all facing in the current economy.

I see so many witches complaining about the lack of good books out there, but if authors aren't going to be paid for their labor, what motivation is there to write books for publication? Creative labor is still LABOR and writers should be properly paid for their published works, especially in limited markets like witchcraft, paganism, and occultism, where every single sale counts not only for paying the bills now, but for the possibility of being able to publish material in the future.

If you claim to be supporting the witchy community but you're doing so by distributing stolen digital copies of witchcraft books still under recent copyright, you are stabbing your fellow practitioners in the back. If you want to actually support the community, PAY THE WRITERS and encourage others to do the same.

Download overpriced textbooks and public domain titles, not witchcraft books.

realizing that tumblr is definitely my most neglected social media when it comes to marketing my books n stuff, but that’s mostly because it’s really just my blog now.

anyhoo, if you like my books and wanted, a bookmark or sticker with the characters (and my art!) on them, or just a signed copy of book, i have them on my etsy now.
