why not donate to a trans rights org or abortion fund instead of sending me anon hate?

TIL a family in Georgia claimed to have passed down a song in an unknown language from the time of their enslavement; scientists identified the song as a genuine West African funeral song in the Mende language that had survived multiple transmissions from mother to daughter over multiple centuries (x)

In 1997 Amelia’s daughter, Mary Moran, and other members of the Moran family were invited to Sierra Leone, West Africa, where they were welcomed in Freetown by Sierra Leone’s President and then flown by helicopter to the country’s interior.  There, in the small village of Senehun Ngola, Mary and Bendu Jabati met and sang this song together for the first time.  Years earlier, Bendu’s grandmother had told her that this song, which had been passed down in her village from mother to daughter for centuries, would one day reunite her to long-lost relatives.

In addition to finding out where in Africa her ancestors were abducted into slavery, Mary Moran discovered the meaning of the Mende song: a processional hymn for the final farewell to the spirit, it was sung in Senehun Ngola by women as they prepared the body of a loved one for burial.

(The OP's link leads to a site with a recording of the song sung by both Mary Moran and her mother, Amelia)

sometimes i have "ships" but other times i am simply aware of which fictional characters are in love with each other. these are different things.

the thing is, in my crippled opinion, i think we're missing something when pointing at art that's inaccessible in various (including dangerous) ways and saying there's no reason for it to exist. in that like, yes, nobody needs to play a game that needs such intense motor coordination skills that even fully abled players take years of practice to finish the full game, and nobody needs to look at a webcomic where the colors are so saturated they leave the site with a massive headache, and nobody needs to risk death via latent-seizure-disorder by watching a movie with intense red-blue color flashes.

but some people like those experiences, for whatever reasons. some people enjoy doing things that are uncomfortable, risky, and even harmful, like getting choked by their sex partners, or belay-free mountain climbing, or going to a concert with a ton of flashing lights. so it's incredibly low-hanging fruit for someone to be like "but there is a reason. me. the target demographic. i am the reason this art exists" and like. that's real!

which is why i tend to aim my cripple bitching more towards accurate content warnings and diversity of media. i'm not trying to remove all video games that require extremely fast reflexes from existence; i just think video games that are accessible to people with the worst hand-eye coordination known to man should also be able to get made with equal amounts of funding and structural support (and also i really want IP law to shift enough that mods of existing games that change the skills necessary + entirely retooled spinoff games that focus on entirely different skillsets can exist without constantly being under attack from IP holders like nintendo). i'm not trying to take away the spiderverse movies as they currently exist; i just want all of their advertising plus the movie itself to contain warnings for flashing lights and other seizure triggers.

and this isn't even a compromise, to me; i don't see any reason things that are unpleasant and dangerous to me shouldn't exist for other people. but like, i am extremely kinkbrained and that's probably where this mindset comes from. it's very hard to be like "something that could possibly kill me shouldn't exist even if other people like doing it with fully informed consent!" when i just listened with great interest the other night to my discussion group partner describing an actual crucifixion scene she attended.

UPS has reached an agreement with the Teamsters union to equip its iconic brown delivery trucks with air conditioning for the first time for new units.

The agreement, announced by UPS on Tuesday, comes as the delivery giant and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters negotiate the terms of a new contract for more than 330,000 U.S. employees. (source)

Unions work, unionize.

They only just now got air conditioners?!?!?!

Yeah it’s a huge win. Those trucks are death traps on a good day. A bunch of drivers died and more got severely ill last year from heat stroke. The temperature in the back of those vans is usually 10 degrees hotter than outside. It’s terrible, and I’m so proud of my union for how harshly they’re negotiating right now. We’ve got a bunch of smaller consessions already but this one was big.

This round of negotiations is difficult. The UPS Overlords are trying very hard to keep their billions of dollars in three pockets instead of spreading the wealth we (the workers) earned for them during the pandemic’s influx of home delivery. They’re trying to give us as little as possible and spinning the news articles to make it look like they’re super generous. Meanwhile almost everyone in my warehouse is on food stamps cuz we aren’t paid shit.

The UPS Teamsters Union are currently voting on whether or not to go on strike in August, so prepare for that. Stock up on essential supplies, just in case. We’ll let everyone know how to support us when the time comes.

This job is my first time being part of a union and I never wanna go back to not having one. It’s amazing to have so much fighting power.

🎶 Solidarity Forever!! 🎶

We gotta take care of each other. It’s the only way to make the world better.

stop saying "gen z brought back bush-era purity politics" i grew up in the bush era and even then people weren't saying that you're a sex addict for having boring marital sexual congress in the same house as your children. this is just plain unhinged

Literally almost every millennial I know has a memory of accidentally walking in on their parents or hearing their parents having sex. It's fucking normal. Human beings have sex. Your parents fuck. Get over it. Being weird about it isn't healthy.

I really loved Robert Evans’s response to this
