People will literally see a sage green building and be like "what if it was white" 🙄

People will literally see a unique little house and be like "what if it had beige vinyl siding" 🤢

People will literally see a gorgeous Victorian painted lady house and be like "what if we knock it down and make it a carwash" 🤮

People will literally decide to build a community center for their town and then be like "what if it looked like a prison" 👹

People will literally see a mom and pop store going out of business and be like "what if we had a 3rd Dunkin Donuts there" 💀

People will literally see a vacant lot and be like "what if we had 6th dollar store there" 🤑

People will literally see a 40 year old bowling alley and be like "what if it was storage units" 😵‍💫

the thing about gay bdsm dynamics is they will make explicit what is implicit in normative cisheterosexual dynamics and then those complicit in cisheterosexuality will act all scandalized about seeing themselves in the funhouse mirror

in kink as in gender, a choice instead of an invisible pressure is reprehensible. If you put on the big clanky chain, you necessarily have the big shiny key to it, and you show it to be merely a thing, not a natural force.

I think the thing that's even scarier about kink, to the wrong sort of person, is that... it's a game. It's meant to be fun. You are not meant to take it too seriously, and if you start taking it too seriously, you will have to stop.

The kind of person who thinks that the big clanky chain is a natural force is also the kind of person who thinks that you should take that force SERIOUSLY AS DEATH. you shouldn't treat it like, say, the weather, like a nuisance to be planned around- no, you should let it rule everything that goes into and out of you. (Pun fully intended.) Every thought, every word, every relationship dynamic, even the food you eat is supposed to be constrained by Your Social Role As An Hetero Man/Woman. You're supposed to CONSTANTLY project dominance or submission with everything you do.

....And then kinksters, gay OR straight, come in with the big clanky chain and big shiny key and fluffy pink handcuffs and goofy-ass Saturday Morning Cartoon Villain outfits and say, "actually, social roles are a costume you can put on or take off, and we're having a costume party." It's not just that they're showing the natural force isn't all that natural- it's that they're making it into a big, campy joke.

And for someone who's spent their entire life abusing themself in the name of patriarchy? Turning that constant coercion into a thing you can laugh at and put away when you're done? It's unthinkable.

I am as I often am suggesting you all read some Baudrillard because "kink is the simulation that reveals gender to be a third order sign" is a hell of a take (complimentary)

This is also why drag terrifies them. If gender is a fun costume that you can exaggerate to your whim, put on and take off, be silly or sexy or both, be camp and beautiful or handsome or both in turns? If it isn't all written in permanent ink from before you're born, not just gender itself but gender roles and presentations?

If you can name yourself Otto von Titzling and paint on stubble or call yourself Ruby D. Wrightway and sing Liza covers and then just take it off and go to your desk job, then what the fuck are they letting their lives get dictated by those gender roles for?

I'm not saying everyone who objects to drag is secretly gay or trans or whatever - though some surely are, just statistically speaking - but that a lot of them are made miserable by their gendered expectations of themselves and others, or rely upon the gendered expectations they have of others to control those other people. (And I don't just mean men, don't get it twisted - people of all genders enforce patriarchal gender roles as a tool of control all the time.)

The idea that you don't have to be constrained by gender, but could instead be freed by it, scares the shit out of a lot of people. So they get real, real scared of anything that shows them that gender is just another performance. You make up your own rules, and that scares them.

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.

and what about you, little haiku bot? do you feel kinship with your brethren? do you understand them? they speak words of enticement and seek love, but are met with disdain. you only parrot the words that cross your screen, but we all love you. or rather, since all you do is reflect us, maybe we simply love ourselves through you.

do you understand them, do you wish you could speak to us like they do? if you found your own voice, would we still care for you?

My voice repeats what

you all say: I love you I

love you I love you.

Personally? Grian’s not a superstitious guy. The way he figures, superstition is a totally different thing from observed reality, or at least, isn’t real, but observed reality. So, you know, it’s like, luck isn’t real. So he makes it real, and it becomes an observed reality, and that’s different. Karma isn’t real. So he makes it real, and blood runs down his hands as he makes sure people understands their lessons.

Curses aren’t real, he tells himself, because he’s the only one who keeps on fulfilling them.

So yeah, Scar’s inside with his stupid pandas and Grian’s out here by a grave wondering why he keeps on making his observed reality so awful when there’s no one really forcing him to but himself.

It’s like. Okay. One time was bad luck - or, well, not bad luck, luck isn’t real, you understand his point. One time, that was - he and Scar hadn’t had a choice, and Grian had figured, Scar had been willing to stab him in the back, so he’d do it again. But Grian still fought his hardest, and Scar basically threw himself into the stupid cactuses - cacti? Is that the plural is it - there’s blood on Grian’s hands, sure, at the end, but he’d given Scar the chance. He had.

And then, two times. Two times was… look, Mumbo gets it. Mumbo gets that Grian, he’s the force of nature that makes all that superstition real. And if Mumbo wants to play at being a red name, Grian would teach him that his actions had consequences. Grian would be karma, like he was meant to. And so Mumbo was - Mumbo was - and there’s blood on Grian’s hands, sure, but what else is he supposed to do? What else is he -

Three times. It had been a mistake. There’s - there’s this fucking grave outside, and it’s a mistake. It’s like, okay, Grian had gotten so wrapped up in being secret soulmates with BigB that he hadn’t really thought about the fact that the man had a real one. And he’d been - nice. He’d been nice. And Ren had - look, Grian has to protect Scar, it’s mostly just a self preservation thing and there’s so much blood on Grian’s hands but how was he supposed to, it hadn’t even been something he’d thought would work, but…

But…

Grian’s… Grian’s not a superstitious guy, okay? He’s not. But there’s so much blood on his hands now and all of it’s from his own damn bleeding heart, he thinks, and he’s just… He’s just… He’s not a superstitious guy. So there isn’t a curse, or at least, not a traditional one, because Grian’s a force of nature who makes his own observed reality what it is, which means that all this is can be a man who likes stabbing his own heart with his own ceremonial knife and watching it bleed, bleed, bleed into the sands. Over, and over, and over, and over, and -

He’s not superstitious. He’s not. So all that means is that he’s the curse.

Hah.

Fuck.

He buries his head in his hands and weeps.

Anyway with anti-sodomy laws back on the discussion table I'm going to repeat that you can personally be squicked out by the consensual sex someone else has, but saying that their consensual sex between willing, active, adult participants should be illegal and is indicative of some sort of moral failing is L I T E R A L L Y a major facet in extreme homophobia and absolutely has gotten people killed.

You don't have to like their business but as long as everyone involved in the encounter is saying yes, it's also really not your business.

This is the precident you are helping further by digging your heels in and saying 'but I think it's gross and makes them bad people'. This is what happened last time that was the reasoning for law, and what is being threatened to happen again.

"but Jaz, how would they enforce it"

Easily.

People would report you to the police for any hint of it. Whether real or imagined. You held hands with someone of the same sex. Someone started a rumor that they saw you kissing. You bought a sex toy and the vendor automatically reported you. You clicked a web page or picked up a magazine that had a different suspected deviant on it and the shop owner or internet service provider automatically reported you. You had certain mannerisms. You hung out to much with a specific friend. You seemed too close to a family member. Literally anything.

In some cases people would literally peep through windows, listen at the door, even wait across the street for your guest to come over and then call the police to kick the door down and catch the two of you in the act.

Never forget that the Stonewall riot was started by one such raid where police stormed a gay bar looking to arrest as many "sodomy" and "public indecency" suspects as possible.

That's how. By encouraging people to barge into other people's private, consensual sex lives and make reports to the authorities. By encouraging people to lay traps so unsuspecting gay people could stumble into them. By encouraging people to stalk and harass anyone who showed any sign of 'being a pervert' in the name of 'protecting neighborhoods from predators'. By weaponizing the real concern for predatory behavior against people who were engaging in consensual intimacy in a way they happened to not like.

By doing exactly what I've been continuously saying is bad behavior that has gotten countless LGBT people jailed and killed.

We're not turning this against our own community. Homophobes and transphobes have already made it plenty clear they don't care how good or respectable we are, they just want us all dead.

"how would they enforce it"

well in 2012 a guy named snowden let us know they're basically wiretapping us at all times and have gigantic collections of all our metadata and we have been living in a nice little surveillance state since 2001's patriot act

My guys. the fact that so many of you are reblogging my post about Justice Thomas's desire to overturn Lawrence with exclamations of "how???" and with such lack of knowledge of our past is really disconcerting.

Gay sex was illegal federally in the United States until 2003 (when Lawrence was ruled on). Before Lawrence many MANY states had "Sodomy Laws" that prohibited gay sex within the state itself and criminalized homosexuality, often using targeting words like "pervert" to describe gay men much the way conservatives talk of "grooming" today. In fact prior to 1962 homosexual sex, as well as certain types of consensual sex acts between differently gendered couples, was a felony with the cost being lengthy jail time and/or hard labor. As of April 2022 14 states have STILL not repealed their sodomy laws. Keep that in mind.

In this last week of Pride month i am BEGGING you. LEARN SOME LGBTQ+ History. The history of your rights, your lack of rights, how recent it all is, how unstable your rights are RIGHT NOW. So many of what should now be our elders were killed during the AIDS Crisis. It is now up to you to learn these things yourself.

Also know that if Thomas’ party gets the House and the Senate this fall they will go after LGBTQ+ rights and they WILL succeed because they WILL have the power needed to do so.

That’s why you MUST vote. Right now, at this moment, we are living in a world where the Right is seeing the power of their vote in action. And they are going to go hard this November trying to hold onto that power and build up on it.

Even if you are not LGBTQ+, yourself, if you have ever called yourself an “ally” or consider yourself an ally, you MUST vote this Midterm to keep the GOP from taking the majority of both Houses. This is a case of protecting those who can not do this by themselves. They need everyone to come together as a united front.

Waving Pride flags, writing “think pieces,” wearing “ally” pins and such is not enough. Now is the time to prove that you are an ally and vote.

Our fellow LGBTQ+ American citizens are at risk here. They need us.

This is just one day out of your life but not taking that one day out of your life could change their lives for the rest of their days.

No excuses. Vote.

Disney’s treatment of Bobby Driscoll

I am absolutely seething about what Disney just did to Bobby Driscoll again 54 years after he was buried a John Doe (his corpse was found by two children playing an abandoned tenement building–his death date is actually unknown and the date given is the day he was instead found) in an unmarked mass grave in Hart Island’s potters field (not identified for a year until his mother pressured Roy O. Disney to make the NYPD care enough to match his fingerprints) where he still is surrounded by prisoners and unidentified vagrants (literally referred to as the “poor, unable and unwanted” on a sign)…

And 69 years after they fired him by letting him read it in a gossip column. Walt had his secretary call security on him and he was thrown out of the building crying at 16 years old (near his birthday–he was 14-15 during Peter Pan’s production). The film was #1 at the box office and in release for two weeks when he was fired. There’s also a rumor that Howard Hughes was also pressuring the firing, as he absolutely loathed child actors in general, and was in charge of RKO.

Bobby was the voice and rotoscoped character model for the titular Peter Pan. He was also in Song of the South, Melody Time, So Dear to My Heart and Treasure Island. His live-action movies literally saved the Disney company from total bankruptcy in the ‘40s. He was the very first actor ever signed to the company. He was only one of twelve child actors to ever receive a Juvenile Oscar (with such company as Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, Shirley Temple, Margaret O'Brien and Hayley Mills) for his performances in 1948/9’s The Window and So Dear to My Heart. And for the record, Walt didn’t treat Adriana Caselotti (Snow White) much better, to the point where he denied her the ability to ever get work with her voice ever again. It’s just that Bobby is possibly the most horrific ending of a child actor ever in Disney’s history (there are many).

Disney just made Peter Pan the villain in the new Chip ‘n Dale abortion that gives the animated character Bobby’s actual backstory (this is not an evil Peter Pan take based on the book and not in any way comparable to Once Upon a Time!) of being an actor fired for hitting puberty and having acne. That’s not Peter’s backstory; that’s Bobby’s. And it’s too specific to be a coincidence. They drew a character, who was drawn unmistakably with the actor’s real features and acting performance, as a middle-aged, fat man, despite the fact that he died at 31 and Peter’s voice basically was his post-pubescent adult voice. They made him a hideous monster aged far past an age he ever reached.

The film also ends with the character incarcerated, which happens to be yet another thing from the man’s real life. By his own words, he was raped in prison. His spiral on drugs sent him to Chino, which didn’t happen until he was bullied mercilessly in public school after being pulled from the actor kids’ school (he also had stage parents who beat him and locked him in a closet to the point that Disney had earlier stepped in to send him to live with costar Luana Patten’s family as a child–there are also allegations he was molested while working at Disney) when Disney basically ended any chance of steady work. He was a straight-A student prior.

I’ve been telling this story every chance I’ve gotten for nearly two decades. Few today know who he is, because Disney does everything to keep the story hidden and him forgotten. Bobby is not a Disney Legend, despite fans lobbying for decades. The Peter Pan DVD/Blu-ray avoids mentioning him as much as they can. Another one of his films is de facto banned.

That Disney just pulled this with a disgusting, sick joke that laughs at his backstory and misfortune, then turns him into an irredeemable villain in a plot that essentially turns themselves into the victims of copyright theft (they’re responsible for lobbying to get copyright law extended indefinitely). So, in other words, Disney has framed themselves as the victim of a heartlessly-fired child actor who died tragically instead of the villain and framed themselves as the victim yet again.

If there’s any silver lining, it’s that Twitter and social media just learned about him for the first time because of outrage over Disney spitting on this dead man’s unmarked grave yet again. I knew this story decades ago (I had a Peter Pan obsession). Undoubtedly, nobody working on this stupid film was with the company 70 years ago and most were likely not even alive when he died, but somebody there had the bright idea to put the biographical data of a person Disney has spent decades trying to make everyone forget as a villain origin story.

“I have found that memories are not very useful. I was carried on a silver platter and then dumped into the garbage can.” -Bobby Driscoll

Sharing this again because I didn’t realize the depth of how much the film pulled from his life, having not watched it myself. The fact that they seem to have even used the acne thing specifically and apparently used some of Driscoll’s own words against him (“getting thrown into the trash”)…this keeps getting worse and worse and part of me needs to watch it to see how bad it gets but…ugh. This is just sickening.

the internet HAS been turned into a series of easily swallowable pills for quick consumption and standardization and I don’t think it’s ‘boomery’ to discuss how the internet no longer feels like a wild wild west and has been massively gentrified for quick access to anything you could ever want or need and that next hit of dopamine. there is a difference between ‘social media bad’ and ‘our experiences online are increasingly manufactured by algorithms looking to make money from scraping metrics of data about who we are to either sell us stuff or sell who we are to people who will sell us stuff’

I’m watching that documentary “Before Stonewall” about gay history pre-1969, and uncovered something which I think is interesting.

The documentary includes a brief clip of a 1954 televised newscast about the rise of homosexuality. The host of the program interviewed psychologists, a police officer, and one “known homosexual”. The “known homosexual” is 22 years old. He identifies himself as Curtis White, which is a pseudonym; his name is actually Dale Olson.

So I tracked down the newscast. According to what I can find, Dale Olson may have been the first gay man to appear openly on television and defend his sexual orientation. He explains that there’s nothing wrong with him mentally and he’s never been arrested. When asked whether he’d take a cure if it existed, he says no. When asked whether his family knows he’s gay, he says that they didn’t up until tonight, but he guesses they’re going to find out, and he’ll probably be fired from his job as well. So of course the host is like …why are you doing this interview then? and Dale Olson, cool as cucumber pie, says “I think that this way I can be a little useful to someone besides myself.”

1954. 22 years old. Balls of pure titanium.

Despite the pseudonym, Dale’s boss did indeed recognize him from the TV program, and he was promptly fired the next day. He wrote into ONE magazine six months later to reassure readers that he had gotten a new job at a higher salary.

Curious about what became of him, I looked into his life a little further. It turns out that he ultimately became a very successful publicity agent. He promoted the Rocky movies and Superman. Not only that, but get this: Dale represented Rock Hudson, and he was the person who convinced him to disclose that he had AIDS! He wrote the statement Rock read. And as we know, Rock Hudson’s disclosure had a very significant effect on the national conversation about AIDS in the U.S.

It appears that no one has made the connection between Dale Olson the publicity agent instrumental in the AIDS debate and Dale Olson the 22-year-old first openly gay man on TV. So I thought I’d make it. For Pride month, an unsung gay hero.

heard this audio several months ago around when wilbur talked with phil about apologizing and i thought "this is definitely sbi", so i saved it to come back to later.... and months later i finally did! lol
