Not conventionally unattractive but specifically a caricature of what a Jewish man would look like (fat, hooked nose, beady eyes, etc). They're over ambitious, greedy, stingy and cruel and are usually equipped with a fat loud wife and a demanding daughter (both caricatures in their own right).
Making the bad guys unattractive has always been a thing but the reason why here is specifically antisemitic.
