Sagittarius Star Cloud
Looking towards the centre of our Galaxy, the stars can appear as clouds, and set against this backdrop, dark clouds of dust and gas make the appearance of holes in the cloud, although they are far closer to us, than the stars in the background.
Stars in the foreground appear as blue colour of clusters, these are young hot blue giant stars, born in nebula's closer to home, while the stars in the background can't be individually resolved, making a cream like cloud. This is because the majority of stars towards the centre of our galaxy are much older, yellow, orange and red dwarf stars, having orbited the galaxy for billions of years and made there way towards the centre, something short lived blue giant stars cannot do in the life span, with the exception of course of the neutron stars and black holes they leave behind, eventually sinking towards the centre and the supermassive black hole, which slowly grows through mergers.
Neptune's Summer
Neptune is a fascinating planet, maybe because it's blueness reminds me of Earth a little, and the moon Triton with it's ice volcanoes, but it turns out, Neptune also has seasons just like Earth, although they last 40 years or so !
It also turns out that Neptune heats up and cools down during these seasons, oddly from the polar regions rather than the equator, but this is most likely a function of the weather on the planet.
Recent observations have found the Southern polar region (which is currently in Summer) has warmed up quite dramatically while other areas have cooled down.
Readings taken over the last 15 years confirm that as the seasons slowly change, so does the temperature, although quite why recently that has accelerated so much isn't known for sure.
Sadly, there are currently no planned missions to Neptune with the exception of a Chinese probe (although that is not known yet, and slated for 2024 launch), either way, it's unlikely we will see many more images except the ones Voyager took as it passed Neptune back in 1989.
a guide to leaving feedback / interacting with fics.
recently in the kpop fanfic community, there have been a lot of authors that depart from their blogs due to the lack of feedback & interactions they receive on their fics. this could be due to a number of reasons, but since we are a fic-recommendation blog, we figured we would do our part in helping the community be more aware of a couple ways on how they can spread love on their favorite works and prevent more authors from leaving due to this specific reason!
please understand that is just the perspective of the admins of ficscafe. other people have different preferences and opinions, but we compiled information gathered from perspectives of an abundance of authors and this seems to be the middle ground / popular belief. if you have any questions or concerns, please drop by the ficscafe ask box.
- reblogs + text response. if we’re talking about the best way to promote authors and make them feel good, reblogging the fic itself and writing your feedback in the body of the post is the way to do it. there’s nothing better than an author clicking their notifications and seeing a reblog + comment on a fic they’ve written. it not only helps with promoting, but it also gives them an idea of how their audience feels about their work! comment within the reblog vs. tags. there’s nothing wrong with either of these! they both have the same purpose—promotion with feedback for the author. the only setback for tags is that if the author wanted to respond to your comment, it would require them to take a screenshot instead of reblogging with your feedback above theirs. stuck on what to write in the comments? easy! write literally anything pertaining to the fic. you can quote parts of the story where you felt a certain way, you can compliment the writing style, or you can discuss your thoughts on the fic. you can also talk about how much it impacted you, how interesting the storyline was, or even the uniqueness of the fic. literally anything. authors love hearing from their readers, and it motivates them to continue writing more !!
- comments. only leaving comments is fine, however, it’s not particularly the best when it comes to promotion. authors do love seeing how their audience feels about their fic–but it’s a bit discouraging when their readers comment but it wasn’t good enough to warrant a reblog. authors sometimes depend on their tags, networks, and pages like ours to help with sharing their stories, but it only goes to a certain extent. please reblog !! your reblog will be more helpful than you think.
- likes. probably the absolute worst way to express your adoration for a fic. tumblr is not like instagram—in order for the fic to be spread throughout the community, liking won’t take it far. liking a fic and leaving it as that is almost as if you’re hiding the fact that you enjoyed it. if you really did enjoy the content, please refer back to #1 as to which is the best way.
- leaving asks. this is sweet !! we understand that sometimes readers can be shy, but again, it has the same result as #2 comments. leaving asks means interacting with the author, and this can create an ongoing conversation and build a relationship with your favorite author. nothing is better (other than a reblog + text response) than seeing a little bubble above your inbox with a new ask.
- donations. this is probably the least popular action. there’s nothing wrong with authors asking for donations, but they shouldn’t make you feel like it’s an obligation or guilt trip you into doing it. donations should be within your means–but if you can donate and the fic was worthwhile enough to donate, feel free to do so! most authors have a kofi, but if they don’t, feel free to drop by their inbox and ask!
Tips for Working with Spirits
This is not an intensive or all inclusive guide. If you are new to working with spirits I suggest finding a more in-depth guide. This is just a list of suggestions based on my readings and experience. Here is a more in-depth guide that I really like.
- The basis of your relationship with a spirit should be a mutual one. If you are asking anything of the spirit be it guidance or protection, you must reciprocate the gesture in time, effort, and goods. You should give offerings regularly to a spirit when you are in contact with them. This is not only to protect you from negative consequences, but also to establish a mutual respect.
- Respect is an important part of your relationship with a spirit. Spirits are as diverse and complex as humans and deserve to be treated as individuals with unique needs. If a spirit is not treating you favorably and you do not wish to banish it, give it offerings and respectful prayers and likely in time it will return your respectful mannerisms.
- Spirits have unique wants and needs. A spirit may communicate with you that it wants something you are unable to give. Let the spirit know that you cannot fulfill that request but you are willing to make a compromise.
- A spirit may communicate with you in many ways. You may notice your eyes drawn to certain words or sentences while reading. Sometimes this is a spirit signaling you what they desire. Spirits can also communicate to you in dreams and symbols. Follow your gut. Your witchy sense is likely correct!
- Divination tools can be used to communicate with spirits. Use a pendulum to ask questions of a spirit. You can even communicate through tarot and tasseography.
- Spirits are attracted to light, this is why it is common to light candles when working with them. Spirits do not navigate our world the same way we do and light is an excellent guide for them. When you want to communicate with your spirit or simply guide them through our world, light a candle.
- If you want a spirit to reside in your home you must provide an adequate house for it. A spirit may choose any place in your home if you do not have a house readily available. A house for spirits can be any container of any size. For example an urn or small box. You might want to fill the container with things the spirit likes to make it more comfortable. If a spirit does not like their home they will let you know. Be sure to work with them to make them feel comfortable in our mortal realm.
- To carry a spirit with you, make a pocket altar. This can be made out of a tin for mints or a small box. You can fill this mini-altar with things to make the spirit more comfortable. You can also make a home for a spirit in a piece of jewelry that contains gemstones.
- If you do not feel the presence of the spirit in the home you have provided for them, you may have to guide them. You can do this by putting offerings in or near the home. You can also light a candle near the home as a signal. If a spirit still does not take residence, it may be an inadequate home.
- A good place to place a spirit home is on your altar. This is a way to show a spirit that you respect and value them.
- Spirits have different wants and needs but there are some common offerings that will be appreciated by most spirits. They include freshly baked foods, incense, flowers, and milk and honey. You can also leave an extra plate of food out for them when you prepare your own meals.

David Gilson is a French Artist. In 2007, over being excited for Disney’s Black Princess, he created a plethora of wonderful artwork in anticipation.
Many of them created during earliest production in which the film was then titled The Frog Princess and the heroine was named Maddy the chambermaid. These works since have been passed around as if they were conceptual artwork during production. In part for being well done and existing a year prior to any real art released to the press and public.
As The Princess and The Frog hops towards five years since theatrical release, it it time to identify these great works of art as they are, fan art.
The right column showcases the beautiful pieces by Disney Artists. David Gilson’s fan artwork is used often when talking about natural hair for Tiana. Lorelay Bové, Sue Nichols, Chris Appelhans, Armand Baltazar and Kevin Gollaher have drawn natural hair in their concept art and unfortunately that aspect did not make it to realization.
David was contracted by Disney Publishing and Disney Consumer Products for Tangled in 2010. Hey, who knows maybe all the attention to his Tiana art landed him the job. We wish him the best in all his artistic endeavors!
How to draw Afro textured 4c hair - an explanation/Tutorial
For those of you that don’t know what 4c hair is, 4c hair is a hair texture type that contains coils to small and tight that the hair appears to be more puffy rather than curly ( like to photo below ) this is in NO WAY to be confused with curly hair. there is a drastic difference.
As a black artist that primarily draws characters with 4c hair, I’ve been asked many times to do a tutorial on 4c hair so here we go~
before we get into 4c hair, lets take a moment to fully understand it by talking about hair texture in a general sense first
let’s take a look at this example of straight hair vs curly hair ( 1 type straight hair vs 3 type curly hair )
If you take a moment to compare the two you’ll notice straight hair is flat, it has no texture. Straight hair perfectly hangs down similar to liquid-like silk. It’s lack of curl pattern is the reason as to why it hangs perfectly flat.
curly hair on the other hand doesn’t lie down flat and silky like straight hair, It’s more thick. Curly hair in it’s raw and unstyled state has a trapezoid like shape this is because the sides of the hair spread more outward.
So why is this? Why is straight hair flat and curly hair thick?
the answer to that question is a thing called piling up. When it comes to hair texture, the shape of the hair strands aren’t the only thing that matters, its how the strands coexist with each other, Curly hair strands coexist by piling up on top each other.
moisture also effects hair texture too, different hair types absorbs moisture differently, thus the thickness of each hair type is different.
…..soooo, how does this all relate to how to draw 4c hair??
Well let’s take a look at the drawing below. Notice how the arrows go outward more as the hair texture gets curlier. As we’ve already discussed, this is because hair piles up, The curlier the hair texture, the more it piles up on each other, the bigger it gets, the more outward the arrows go.
Out of any hair texture, 4C hair has the most curls. Because of this, the hair piles up on each other so much that it doesn’t lie down flat like straight hair, nor does it make a trapezoid like shape like curly hair, it instead becomes more cloud like.❤️
This is what you need to take into account when it comes to drawing 4C hair.
Think of it as piling up a bunch of cotton balls on each other. The most cotton on top of top to lead to a bigger patch of cotton. this is 4c hair.
How to not draw 4c hair:
Garnet fanart. Let’s talk about Garnet Fanart. I notice a trend that when artists draw Garnet from Steven universe, her hair texture is usually changed to 3 type curly like texture. This subtle form of White washing has confused me because this is inaccurate.
Garnet’s hair is in the shape of a cube. Though 3 type hair piles up on each other, it isn’t curly nor thick enough for their hair to stay in the shape of a cube. Curly hair lies down more than 4c hair. So garnet’s hair being in the shape of a cube is a dead giveaway that it is 4C. Why do you think hairstyles like flat tops are usually seen on black men with 4c hair? It’s because, the 4c hair texture is thick and strong enough to stay in whatever shape you put it in.
please, if you’re drawing a character with 4c hair, avoid drawing it like curly 3 type hair, this is very anti-black and texturist.
So, how do you draw 4c hair?
honestly, its the most easy thing in the world
i wanna clarify that blobby looking 4c drawings ( like the one on the top left ) can work depending on how cartoony your art style is.
Another thing that I want to greatly clarify when it comes to drawing 4C hair is, YOU. DONT. NEED. TO. DRAW. EVERY. HAIR. STRAND!…..like, seriously. I’ve gotten many messages about how 4C hair is hard to draw, and it’s always left me confused; but then I find out that the same people that have trouble drawing 4C hair, attempt to draw every single strand of hair. This is unnecessarily time consuming because it’s merely impossible to get every single detail down, especially when you have a simple cartoon style. 4C hair does not require much effort, all you’re doing is drawing lumps. It’s that simple, nothing more nor nothing less.
The reason why I greatly advise all of you to avoid drawing every single hair strand is because in real life, when you look at a 4C textured Afro, your eyes don’t pick up on each individual hair strand like straight or curly hair. 4C hair, appears to be more undefined and cloud like, so attempting to draw each and every individual strand is unnecessary and will most likely end up looking inaccurate.
Anyways! that’s it for now! there will be a part 2 to this tutorial that will come out next week! i hope you guys have learned from this and apply it to your black character in your art!~

“Most of what you think you know about Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is wrong.
This is the model that we all learned in psych 101 is wrong [image of Maslow’s pyramid is shown] where our basic physiological needs are at the bottom of the pyramid and achieving one’s full individual potential is at the apex.
What you may not have known is that Maslow spent 6 weeks with the Blackfoot First Nation in the summer of 1938. He learned about their worldview and the Blackfoot Tipi, appropriated and misrepresented their perspective to establish his own Maslow’s hierarchy, and then didn’t give them credit.
[Image of Maslow’s pyramid and Blackfoot tipi shown, described below]
According to the Blackfoot Tipi, self-actualization is at the bottom of the pyramid. In the middle we have belonging and community actualization, where people take care of each other and help each other with their basic needs. And at the top, we have cultural perpetuity, which is teaching each other how to live in harmony with the land and achieve community actualization through generations.
It makes so much sense, right? Taking care of oneself is not enough. We need to take care of each other and our community.
This is why we need to decolonize psychology.”
If anyone wants to learn more about this I suggest watching the late Narcisse Blood's interviews on Maslow and the influence of Blackfoot worldviews on his work thru the Blackfoot Digital Library, they're very in-depth
Eldon Yellowhorn also discusses Maslow and Blackfoot ways of knowing but I forget which interview it's in
I JUST LOST MY JOB AND I NEED MONEY FOR RENT QUICK!!! PLEASE SHARE AND DONATE IF YOU CAN
I hate that I have to do this but who doesn't. I'm in a serious pickle and I need rent and food for the next few months (about 800$ a month)
I'm a black trans femme with autism and I just lost my job with only one paycheck to my name. And it's not even enough to cover my rent for the upcoming month. I need to buy groceries, pay rent and bills. So I decided to open up EMERGENCY PAY WHAT YOU WANT ICON COMMISSIONS. This will be my only source of income for who knows how long until I get another job which isn't easy considering I have chronic health issues.
All payment is upfront. Please DM me if you're interested. I can draw about 5 icons a day if they're fully shades, even more for the lesser tiers. So I should be able to deliver fairly quickly.
I'm willing draw literally whatever (within reason) as long as it's a bust. Furries, you or your loved ones, fanart, etc.

Tumblr,
As you’re probably aware, the coronavirus disease, or COVID-19, has now been found in countries all over the globe. This is an understandably disconcerting moment for many, but there are steps we can all take to help mitigate the effect on our communities.
COVID-19 is spreading, but misinformation and disinformation are spreading even faster. The most responsible thing you can do is protect yourself from both the disease and false information. Being prepared with facts and data instead of assumptions and fabrications will help inform how you can best prepare for COVID-19.
Here are some resources you can trust:
- WHO provides daily updates surrounding COVID-19’s spread, infection rate, and general influence on our society. Their latest update given on March 3, 2020, details that there is a shortage of personal protective equipment for healthcare professionals. They also provide a very handy FAQ section, where you can learn more about how to protect yourself and your community.
- Every day Worldometer updates its website with the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in each country that has been affected. Worldometer has been rated one of the best free reference websites by the American Library Association, and for good reason: it lists every single one of its regular sources here, and lists the source of every COVID-19 update at the bottom of the COVID-19 page.
- Your local health department will often have the most up-to-date information specific to your immediate area, including how to proceed if you believe you may be showing symptoms of the virus. If you live in the United States, you can find the contact information for your health department by visiting the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO).
There’s another thing about this news that a lot of places are not talking about: the toll on one’s mental health, especially if you are someone who struggles with anxiety. If you find your concerns about being prepared are crossing a line that affects your mental health, please consider reaching out to a loved one who can guide you to help, a mental health professional, or an organization set up to help those in need.
Here are a couple of organizations you can trust:
- Crisis Text Line is free, 24/7 support. Just text 741741 from anywhere in the United States. The Crisis Text Line will connect you with a trained Crisis Counselor.
- National Alliance on Mental Illness (@namiorg) offers free support and resources for those who are struggling. NAMI can be reached Monday through Friday, 10 am - 6 pm EST at 1-800-950-NAMI (6264) or by email at info@nami.org.
Take care of yourselves, Tumblr. Wash your hands well, practice keeping a safe distance from others, only wear a mask if you believe you are sick with COVID-19 symptoms and could infect others (or are immunocompromised yourself), and remember to fact check everything that you see. Head on over to @world-wide-what for a refresher on what fake news looks like and how it spreads. Pass those tips onto others when you see them accidentally spreading false information.

Like, black people are now getting a wider platform in the film industry than ever before and I understand the need to “tell our stories”... but there are somethings that really shouldn’t be done.
I’m not saying “black film makers shouldn’t be allowed to kill the black characters cause we’re already dying out here in real life” but I just notice a pattern of glorification of the horrendous shit black people go through in these films being made and it’s very... lazy and evil....
If it’s not death it’s drugs. If not drugs it’s violence. If not violence its police brutality. If it’s not police brutality it’s something else that’s evil. In every film. In every tv show. And every time you walk into a movie theatre hoping to be entertained, you walk out either being traumatised or feeling like you’ve just witnessed a vision of the future in some way.
I understand funding is a issue and you have to do with what you have but come on!!!! I know I sometimes judge black tv shows and films harshly but it’s only because I know we have so many stories to tell and so much creativity... so I don’t understand why we continuously have to be show trauma, pain, struggle every fucking time.
Other than Black Panther, Friday and a few other black films, I’ve never really felt entertained or excited cause the moment I watch the trailer I already know something bad is gonna happen...
We mostly get slave, gang, and police brutality movies. Lee Daniel trauma movies and Tyler Perry traumadies. We need more than this.
