I spoke to my dad who's been on strike a few hours ago, and he said this is absolutely true. The studios were still hoping they could starve out the writers, and didn't expect the general public to be so strongly on the union's side still 5 months in.
He's lived through four WGA strikes, and he says the energy and solidarity he's seen both inside and outside the union has been far beyond what has ever been present before. The internet ate Drew Barrymore alive for scabbing, and within days the studios were back at the negotiating table giving in to almost every demand.
Thanks guys. This really was a team effort ❤️❤️ #eatthefuckingrich
tetanus fact: it's an old wives' tale that tetanus is caused by rusty metal. it's actually caused by puncture wounds substantially deeper than they are wide, which introduce ubiquitous anaerobic spores (i.e. the "seeds" of single-celled organisms which cannot grow if exposed to oxygen) into a warm, poorly-oxygenated space in the body. so receiving shallow cuts from a rusty knife is not likely to give you tetanus but puncture wounds from clean but non-sterile objects can. this is great news if you like receiving superficial wounds from rusty knives and blades and swords all over your dumbass body
Stop calling them superficial. All my wounds are passionate and meaningful
Forever thinking about how, on election day in 2016, I wore a shirt with an American flag on it because it was what was clean. And the 20-ish year old bagging my groceries made a snide remark about it, followed by 'I didn't vote, they're all the same anyways.' And a fellow grocery worker chimed in agreement that he wasn't voting for the same reason.
And now I can't go to a local drag event without having to walk through a gauntlet of nazis.
I realize that the election is a year and a half away, but please don't fall for the 'they're the same' rhetoric this time around. Both candidates will suck, but they'll suck in different ways and one of them wants my community dead.
Don't let perfect be the enemy of good.
voting on a local level is so incredibly important. as is running for things on a local level. so many republicans that are currently passing anti trans bills in states like missouri ran completely unopposed. the Glorious Revolution is not going to happen overnight, so in the meantime we NEED folks challenging these seats.
So true
"Hey so it turns out that the people of earth accidentally did a global experiment to see if every individual could course correct climate change through mass personal change of habits, and it turns out, no! We can't! It was massive corporate activity all along!"
Hi guys, would absolutely mean the whole world to me if you guys could please share my tipping jar, inrprnt or patreon. My mom has been in and out of the hospital bc of what was at first her glaucoma and and sepsis recovery... And every time she goes, they keep finding smth wrong. Today is another Big Checkup to see if she is healthy enough to finally do her eye surgery.
I do commissions, but because two of my devices broke this month, I've accumulated a work debt and had to raise my prices. I've no wiggle room at all, and both imprnt and patreon has been bugging out. Having so much trouble earning a living.
Would absolutely feel so so grateful if you guys who like my art and have anything to spare can be a patron, I post several exclusive drawings every month- or you pick up a drawing on my inprnt, or directly send me a tip. It sincerely helps truckloads. Thank you so much. If you see this, it would mean everything if you could spare me a retweet.. please and thank you.
IM GOING TO CRY THEY MIGHT INCREASE THE SSI ASSETS LIMIT TO $10,000.
it's a bipartisan bill too! and for anyone unaware, people on SSI (which is different from SSDI), can only have $2,000 in assets (unless they have an ABLE account, which comes with its own rules). this assets limit has been in place for FORTY YEARS and is a giant part of why being on SSI keeps people incredibly impoverished.
i've also heard they might remove the marriage penalty but i don't have the spoons to read or explain it so someone else please add on!
this is huge! please spread the word and do what you can to help ensure this happens!
Now would be a GREAT time to call/email/write your Congressperson! And it will still have different amounts for couples and individuals but it will be much less punitive. And it will be tied to inflation!!! It will be increased to $20,000 for couples and $10,000 for individuals.
For reference here's the link to the Senate bill: https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/senate-bill/2767 and the House version: https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/5408 I recommend looking at these to see who is already sponsoring them and make sure to either call in support OR to call asking them to work on this.
It's also pretty short! Here is the full text of the bill (same text for both the Senate and the House):
SEC. 2. Update in eligibility for the supplemental security income program.
(a) Update in resource limit for individuals and couples.—Section 1611(a)(3) of such Act (42 U.S.C. 1382(a)(3)) is amended—

(2) in subparagraph (B), by striking “$1,500” and all that follows through the end of the subparagraph and inserting “$10,000 in calendar year 2023, and shall be increased as described in section 1617(d) for each subsequent calendar year.”.
(b) Inflation adjustment.—Section 1617 of such Act (42 U.S.C. 1382f) is amended—
(1) in the section heading, by inserting “; inflation adjustment” after “benefits”; and
(2) by adding at the end the following:
“(d) In the case of any calendar year after 2023, each of the amounts specified in section 1611(a)(3) shall be increased by multiplying each such amount by the quotient (not less than 1) obtained by dividing—
“(1) the average of the consumer price index for all urban consumers (all items; United States city average, as published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the Department of Labor) for the 12-month period ending with September of the preceding calendar year, by
“(2) such average for the 12-month period ending with September 2022.”.
At this point, I’ve learned it’s actually cheaper to shop and cook for a community than it is for an individual or even a family unit to do so.
This last year learning how to batch cook massive amounts of food for the communities I’m a part of has shown me how aggressively cheap it is both to eat plant-based and feed a large sum of people.
One of my favorite stories is a recipe I kinda winged with my mutual aid group in Tx. We served 75 bowls of lentil soup over rice and it only cost us $4 to make that quantity of food. Literally, the cost per bowl was like $.06 to make and so much of the produce was donated.
Like, let that sink in. We fed 75 people for $4. How much do we spend on groceries for ourselves or families on a monthly basis?
All of yesterday, a comrade and I cooked 60 hearty bowls of a Spicy Split Pea Soup and Pinto-Potato Chili. We wanted to meal prep together but fucked around and made enough to feed 8 other comrades and have a ton to distribute to the unhoused community in our city. In each container is 2 cups of soup/chili over 2 cups cooked rice. That means one box is gonna be 2 meals cuz leftovers.
Currently, the project I’m trying to make a reality is a Plant Based Community Kitchen. The vision is to build a small menu of recipes, no more than 10, that all incorporate 2 base grains/legumes/starchy vegetables.
To bulk-buy ingredients that are paid for by donation to batch cook in a meal-prep style so that there is a variety of dishes that can be made in batches that can feed a comrade, college student, family of 4 up to a week’s worth of meals for dirty cheap.
We’d have volunteers come cook and help deliver and distribute, hoping to save comrades money, battle food insecurity, help feed more consistently the unhoused, and build the communal structures that allows us less reliance on money/capitalism to meet our collective needs.
For instance in my city, these are some numbers/costs from a restaurant supply store nearby and template recipe I made to estimate yield and price.
This basic ass template recipe at these prices would allow me to make 900 meals for under $100.
If 10 comrades threw in $20 once, this kitchen would be funded for months, and cook enough to food to feed people consistently for long periods of time, and have a variety of flavors and meals all combating food insecurity, food deserts, and food swamps.
Ian Stone, Doubting Thomas, oil on linen, 12x16 in, 2023
"If you know the painting by Caravaggio, Doubting Thomas, it was my direct inspiration for this piece.
A doubting Thomas is a skeptic who refuses to believe without direct personal experience. 50-60 years ago, it was not uncommon for people to think or believe that being gay was a phase or a mental illness or deviance in some shape or form. It's embarrassing that the same things are being said about trans people today."
STOP SCROLLING!!! THIS IS NOT A PHOTO IT'S OIL ON LINEN!!!!!!!!!
remember that interviews are not about giving a good and honest first impression that they'll carefully consider. interviews are about saying the special words and phrases they're looking for that give you points and when they tally those up whoever earned the most job points wins
they don't want to "know you" they want you to walk in there and regurgitate everything the job description said
isnt even a joke btw if you're autistic and/or unemployed and nobody taught you this yet i'm really sorry
The dead don’t die. No one is ever really gone. Etc.
Techromancy
Horrors within my comprehension
Fucking grave robbers
Those are not the living dead I singed up for as a zombie fan.
I’m all for progress, but necromancy is not someþing we need replaced. Let þe dead stay dead, if þey wish to live þey’ll let you know.
If you live in the US and you have a phone you need to keep secret for any reason, make sure that it is turned off at this time.
Yes, I'm doing this months in advance, and yes, my blog has very little reach, but I figure better to post about it more than less.
Please reblog and add better tags than mine, I'm bad at tags.
This is fascinating and I love the part with the mushrooms and the worms if this really works but my favorite part is that we spent decades like “oh no....oil is soaking into fur and feathers....if only we had something that could soak up all this oil”
Considering WB is doing almost nothing to promote DC's Blue Beetle after three back-to-back-to-back box office failures, let this post be a reminder that Blue Beetle is just over a month away!! If you want to know why you should support this upcoming DC movie, here's why: • Blue Beetle is the first live action Latino superhero film • The film stars Cobra Kai's Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, Singer and Actress Becky G as the voice of the Scarab and George Lopez as Jaime's crazy uncle Rudy. • Blue Beetle is the first character in DC Studios' DCU timeline, as confirmed by DC Studios Co-Owner James Gunn • As stated above, Blue Beetle is part of the DCU world filled with superheroes. However, and thankfully, the past DCEU films are not relevant at all to Blue Beetle -- as confirmed by the movie's director Angel Manuel Soto. • Blue Beetle was made as "the first act of a saga" and is currently planned to have a trilogy, assuming the first film does well. • The Hollywood Reporter's sources believe that if Blue Beetle does do well and if it ends up getting a positive reception, Xolo Mariduena's Blue Beetle can end up appearing in the upcoming Booster Gold show. Support DC's Blue Beetle, y'all.
Blue Beetle didn't simply entertain me, it didn't just make me laugh, it made me HAPPY.
This film nailed the feel of the comic - a crazy family that balances trying to help and being worried about their boy, a hero trapped in a suit that could destroy the world, and Susan Sarandon.
Ted's not IN the movie, but he's all OVER it. And that made me so tickled. It's the first film they've done that addresses the idea of legacy in the super hero world.
I have no idea how well the film is going to do this weekend, but I'm really hoping ws can use the power of word-of-mouth to help it pull an Elemental and actually do BETTER next week, and the week after.
I'll let James Gunn take the credit for this film as the first one under his umbrella, but this is solely due to the work of director Ángel Manuel Soto and writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. They delivered a film that is very much a look at Hispanic family and culture, and still holds its own as a rock solid superhero movie.
