Human Error: Loading the Existential Crisis by Victoria Siemer
Brooklyn-based designer Victoria Siemer a.k.a. Witchoria (previously featured here) is known for her enigmatic and ethereal graphic design work. Although she usually contorts and changes the perspective of landscape and cityscape photography, Siemer beautifully combines current contemporary thoughts, moods and aesthetic with cyber-culture.
She has composed a photography series, which depicts existential ideas and highly emotional computer messages, which are overlaid on a scanned Polaroid. Entitled Human Error, the messages convey feelings of dissatisfaction, heartbreak and broken relationships. Each “error” or “update” notification is placed above human depictions of life: female bodies, flowers, and nature. The juxtaposition between the digital text and the presence of humanity and life create a vulnerable and enigmatic sensibility.
Siemer’s beauty lies in her artistic ability to transform an everyday message in the digital world into an outlet of feeling. She has achieved the unthinkable, she has given the machine a heart. You can buy her work in her Society6 shop.
