Remembering the Golden, Silver, and Early Modern Ages of Sci Fi and Yesteryear's Vision of the Future

To all of you oldschoolsciencefiction fans, August 11th was the final posting on this site. The writer was tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident on August 12th. As his wife, I know how much he enjoyed all things old school science fiction and sharing with all of you who also shared this love.

Happy birthday to Scottish actor and director Ian McDiarmid, pictured here as Emperor Sheev Palpatine checking out Coruscant’s night life incognito. The winner of both the Olivier and Tony Award was born on this day in 1944.

We’ve lost an Old School Sci Fi icon. Actress, singer, and dancer Nichelle Nichols, universally remembered as Star Trek’s Lieutenant Nyota Uhura, has passed away at the age of 89. She will be sorely missed.

Happy birthday to the Terminator himself: Actor, bodybuilder, author, politician, and businessman Arnold Schwarzenegger was born in Thal, Styria, Austria on this day in 1947.

Happy birthday to the man and beard that are Wil Wheaton. The Burbank, California-born actor, blogger, writer, and television host was born on this day in 1972.

This Tumblr has become an obituary column. Rest in peace to Bernard Cribbins, known to Old School Sci Fi fans for his portrayal of policeman Tom Campbell in “Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D.” (1966). Not so old school fans will recognize him as Wilfred Mott from the Tenth Doctor era of Doctor Who.

The English actor and singer was 93 years old.

Tony Dow update

Various news and entertainment sites are reporting that Tony Dow is, in fact, alive but on hospice. Old School Science Fiction posted this post a few hours ago about Dow’s passing based on reports from the media that he had died.

Rest in peace to producer, director, sculptor, and television actor Tony Dow. He directed several episodes of “Babylon 5” and one episode of “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” but he will forever be remembered for his portrayal of Wally Cleaver on the 1950s-60s sitcom “Leave It to Beaver”.

He was 77 years old.
