Old Cranky & Probably Right

@old-cranky-and-right

The only difference between me and a unicorn is that I can’t shank you with my face

Hate the way that the attitude of "you disagree with me and I don't understand why and I can't be bothered to ask why so instead I'm going to assume it's because you are simply evil for the sake of being evil and couldn't possibly have a reasonable alternate perspective on this issue" has taken over politics

"Conservative"

Nah when your "disagreement" is hating non white non Christian women and LGBT people for existing that's not a disagreement sweetie.

Please grow up and get some friends who aren't white, Christian, men, or cishet.

Wow the self awareness is spectacular. I couldn't make this up if I tried.

I am never going to run out of uses for this image.

>that’s not a disagreement sweetie.

Turns out the definitions of words don’t change just because you want to be dramatic, and “people who do evil things are willfully evil” is not the null hypothesis.

In fact, the idea that everyone else fundamentally agrees with you but just makes different choices is bigotry.

Not all conservatives are Christians and not Christians are conservatives.

There are churches that accept LGBT people.

There are plenty of churches with predominantly non-white members (especially in black and hispanic neighborhoods).

And there are plenty of women's groups and women with leadership positions in the church.

Of course you would know all this if you actually took your own advice and spoke to people who are different than you.

Really wish people would at least grow to acknowledge that the reason people do, say and believe anything is rarely "because I'm evil". Life isn't like a Marvel movie.

No matter how heinous their belief might be, there's all but a zero percent chance they believe it because they're evil. Even Hitler wasn't doing what he did to be evil, he just believed some really fucked up shit and decided to act on it.

Even in Marvel movies, a lot of villains have depth. Like Thanos.

Which really pissed a lot of people off. Especially when they took "Thanos was right" seriously, and/or misunderstood "Thanos was the protagonist".

“thanos was right but his methods were terrible” is a Not Terrible Take™, imo.

anyway, i’m catholic and yet the opinions that a lot of people might consider me homophobic over are rooted in having had to deal with LGBT activists as a bisexual far more than my religion.

A few years ago, I said that the fastest way to make someone hate “your people” is to ensure that every interaction they have with you is negative.

I wasn’t wrong.

Nice bait bud

Obviously late term abortions exist, but they're to SAVE THE LIFE OF THE PREGNANT PERSON ya fuckin dense motherfuckers

When it comes to late term pregnancy complications when the mother’s life is in danger, doctors usually will do an early delivery for the baby, not an abortion.

Dude you do realize that some definitions of abortion include C-sections, right? In many places, all an abortion is is an intentional termination of the pregnancy. Well, if the fetus is surgically removed, that ends the pregnancy. So within those definitions, it is called an abortion even if the fetus survives it.

Damn, congrats to me for being born dead I guess. Since I'm a ghost now I'm going to spend my afterlife haunting dumbasses. Starting with you

Congrats! According to this person, you were aborted!

If all an abortion is "is an intentional termination of the pregnancy" that would include birth. So are we all aborted? 🤔

That’s what I’m gathering from this person’s definition.

If you have to twist words that badly to make your argument seem reasonable, you never had an argument.

Okay, I hate job searching, but I do love applying to Catholic institutions

Where else are you going to see this?

This post has taught me that no one actually knows what a vow of poverty is. So-called leftists calling vows of poverty "exploitative" and "archaic" for... *checks notes* .... providing a means through which a community of people holds their property in common?

If people actually understood Catholic teachings, they wouldn’t be so aggressively against it.

I think it was Tozer who said something like “people don’t hate Christianity, they hate what they think Christianity is”

funny how the "everyone in power is a pedophile" conspiracy theorists don't support the most obvious solution, replacing all men in power with women

Please tell me your joking. Women can be pedophiles too, as someone had was abused by one it's deeply worried to see people act like women can be just as evil.

there are thousands of extremely evil women but they are a minority of women. an all female group would consider sexual abuse absolutely unacceptable and put all those women in prison. sexually abusive men are far more common so they protect each other

We literally had a woman in power in Germany for 16 years which drove the country faster to shit then any man ever could have but nice bait

Really? Germany has never had a worse male leader? Really? Really? You're going to say that about Germany?

I’m not racist but I don’t think that you should have any issues with that because you’re not gonna be able to do anything for me.

I'm not racist but I think I can do it for you to be a good day please find the attached file is scanned image in PDF.

I'm not a racist but I'm sure you can get a good look on your blog.

I’m not a racist but I’m a good guy.

I’m not racist but I’m a good friend of the president.

If you met someone who was really into, like, idk, elevators, you'd probably first assume that this person is someone who's not only knowledgeable about a wild range of elevators, can name 15 different types of elevators (and the major subtypes of all of them, and all of them have like 10 subtypes and there's more structural nuances than that), is interested in trying out - or at least learning more about - any new type of elevator they hear of, and if you ask them to name their favourite type of elevator, they'd think of so many that they have a hard time choosing just one, and even if they have several least favourite types, that's way less than half the length of the list of the ones they like the best.

If you asked a geologist what their favourite kind of rocks are, they'd start listing them out by cathegories, there's so many different types and they're all really cool and interesting in their own ways. Someone who's really into birds is probably going to have a favourite kind of corvid, owl, parrot and some branches of birds you've never heard of. Everyone who's really into some specific subject generally has a hard time picking their favourite type, because so many kinds are cool in such different ways. And if you know of some different one that they've never heard of, they're intrigued to learn more.

Straight-up nobody who's truly, genuinely, passionately into the subject they claim to be really into will tell you "actually there is just one specific type that's good, these are the exact parametres of what they must be within, and anything that isn't within this narrow range is trash that I hate." This isn't a fan or an enthusiast, but a snob. And probably a poser, who doesn't even really like the thing in general but for some reason would rather present themselves as an expert with a refined taste, than just admitting that they don't actually really even like the thing in general all that much.

I don't get what the kind of men who claim to be some sort of Paragon Manliest Heterosexual Man try to achieve by boasting about how picky they are about women. Like oh, you think that the only women who are even passably attractive to you are within this exact 3-year age range, within these height and weight ranges, education level, religious beliefs, political ideals, and so on? Yeah sorry but you're clearly far less into women than the dude who'll go full Johnny Bravo at any female figure he encounters and is currently shagging women beyond your comprehension.

So I watched all of Lower Decks

It's fucking fun as hell

I was worried it'd turn into a discovery/rick & morty hybrid that would be painfully cringy and awful to watch

Instead it turned out to be much more like the Orville. Funny, great, gets serious at times but all in all enjoyable.

Hurr hurr eat ship like burger

I think a pretty good reason not to trust Christians is they're pretty content with forgiving rapists and pedophiles. Not to sound like a dumb atheist on main here but if you cross the threshold of a child you deserve a very slow and painful death. But hey, wouldn't be Christianity without excusing horrific crimes under the guise of salvation. 🙄🙄🙄

Spoken like someone who doesn’t understand true forgiveness or even experienced it.

Forgiveness doesn’t mean a person no longer has to face consequences for their decisions and there is no justice for victims.

It’s very sad that you don’t know real forgiveness.

Pedos aren’t worthy of it. Hope that helps.

No one is worthy of it. That’s kinda the point. Hope that helps.

this right here is actually one of the reasons i believe the rise of atheism (and by extension the decline of christianity) is making the world worse overall.

why ever aspire to be better when someone is just going to rake you over the coals for things you no longer agree with that you said or did decades ago just the same as had they happened literally yesterday and you still stood behind them? there is no reason is why. the whole problem with our current purity culture, where moral failings taint you for all eternity is that it removes all incentive to better oneself. that’s why christianity teaches that there is always a path to forgiveness. not because nothing is really ever that bad, but because without a path to forgiveness there is no reason for self improvement.

this isn’t saying that forgiveness should always be easy - it often won’t and shouldn’t be - but it has to be a possibility. as a society we should want bad people to become good people. and for people to better themselves there needs to be a possibility that their bettering themselves will be recognised.

it doesn’t matter how much you dislike a person, it doesn’t matter how much you disagree with them, it doesn’t matter how much what they have done disgusts you, it is absolutely imperative that we entertain a hypothetical point at which they will have bettered themselves sufficiently to be forgiven, else we resign ourselves to every single person only ever being able to become worse, never better.

Only pedophiles are anti-abortion, they just want more miserable, unwanted kids running around that nobody will look for or care about.

you heard it here first guys, the only reason a person may conceivably want a human being not to die is because they wanna fuck em.

Avatar

Considering how many people have built their entire identity around who they want to fuck, this feels remarkably on brand.

Nothing will ever be funnier than non-Christians “informing” Christians about things they’re already aware of like they’re showing electricity to 12th-century peasants or what they have to say is going to shake our faith to its very core.

“Did you know the Forbidden Fruit wasn’t really an apple? That depictions of the fruit as apples only came about because it was a pun on the Latin word “mala?”“ “Yeah we’re aware,”

“Did you know that Jesus wasn’t white? That He was a brown Middle-Eastern Israeli Jew?” “We learned this in CCD class at age 5,”

“Did you know The Prince of Egypt is a Jewish story?” “We know what the Old Testament is and where Christianity originated, so…”

“Did you know that Hell is actually a frozen wasteland and not a fiery pit?” “That was actually from Dante’s Inferno which isn’t considered doctrinal since it’s basically glorified self-insert fanfiction, however it’s a very interesting and thought-provoking read full of symbolism,”

“Jesus was a human sacrifice”

Spot on there Jim, you’re really catching up

The funniest thing about all this is that usually these “shockers” aren’t even the most bizarre things you can find in the Bible. Come on, dude, branch out a little. At least you could give me a bad take on, like, that time when Ezekiel summoned an undead army or something.

self care is taking a hot bath after a long day or a long shower after a night out. self care is making yourself a tea to calm your nerves and remind yourself to breathe. self care is cooking fresh meals. self care is leaving when youre not enjoying yourself and theres no need to stay. self care is saying no when you need to.

self care is doing all the things an attentive partner would do for you - it makes you recognise you can take care of yourself, that you are independent and strong and have control over your own life.

self care is not putting on makeup or buying new clothes or getting botox or consuming anything, it‘s an act of kindness and care towards yourself.

It's nor just 3 ingredients, it's 4.

Salt, Sodium Silicoaluminate, Dextrose, Potassium Iodide.

E554 is just an anti-caking agent.

Saying "it has aluminum, it must be bad" is like saying "sodium catches on fire in water, and chlorine is a poison, but we're putting both in our bodies?"

Even though sodium chloride is...salt.

Avatar

I’m not terribly surprised that they dope their fries with a little sugar. It’s a neutral seasoning that would enhance the flavor. The Iodide is unsurprising since 90% of food-grade salt is iodized to increase iodine consumption in the general population.

The aluminum is... eh. A quick glance at some relevant papers on aluminum and E554 suggests that it MIGHT be implicated in Alzheimer’s. However, that ‘might’ is the following path:

-E554 contains Aluminum in its chemical formulation. -E554 might metabolize into sub-compounds which release aluminum ions into the body. We can’t be sure because E554 is a category of large molecules and doesn’t have a single chemical formulation. -Aluminum is taken up and remains in similar body pathways as heavy metals, but at extremely low rates. It does get flushed but can accumulate. -Aluminum might be partially responsible for AD after heavy lifetime dosage (no conclusive evidence). -Such evidence will be hard to collect as aluminum contamination in the amounts being tested for can come from damn near everything from aluminum piping in the water supply to aluminum utensils.

IMO worrying about aluminum uptake from compounds like E554 is like worrying about dribbling water while drinking, while you’re swimming in a pool. There are MUCH larger sources you should be worrying about if you are.

Of course, it’s important to remember that we’re talking about eating at McDonald’s.
