Elise, 18. I like art, nature, stories, and beautiful architecture. I'm an Orthodox Christian catechumen. This should go without saying but since this is tumblr dot com, DON'T FOLLOW ME IF YOU ARE A NAZI. Psalm 27:13-14.

i’m back, but i’m leaving tumblr

Basically, being off tumblr for almost a month made me realize how much healthier I am without it. At this point, it’s become a distraction and procrastination mechanism for me instead of something constructive. I’m not going to delete my blog, but I’ll be logging off without plans to log back on.

The reason I’ve stuck around for so long is because I’ve made some friends on here and I care about y’all! So I’m going to stick around for a few days more in case any mutuals want to keep in touch. I’m not on other social media, but I made an email address (bc i still don’t wanna give out my personal one) so if you’re a mutual and if you want to start a digital pen pal correspondence or if you just want to know where to reach me, DM me and I’ll give it to you!

Thanks for a great year and a half, guys! I’m really thankful for the great community I’ve found here and I hope and pray the best for all of you.

as someone went from wearing makeup everyday two years ago to someone who never wears makeup now, two things have happened:

1. I actually sincerely, genuinely prefer the way I look without makeup more than with it. Nowadays I don’t think a lot of people realize that the more often you wear makeup, the more foreign your face will look to you without it, and vice versa. I’ve gotten to a point where my bare face feels the most me.

2. When I do wear makeup, it’s actually fun! Because I’ve decided to give up on concealer and foundation and contouring, it really becomes more about the artistic expression. It’s fun to wear bright orange blush, glittery highlighter, and pastel eyeshadow. Makeup should be no different than a kitschy accessory, or a fun outfit.

I actually highly recommend any of you do the same, especially if you’re someone who does wear makeup everyday (and if that’s the case, I challenge you).

Start by going a couple days, not during the weekend or a time you know you’ll be home, without any makeup at all. Go for a week. Then two weeks. Then a month. Go to work, go to school, go to the store, go out to dinner, hang out with your friends.

And here’s the most important part: whenever you see your reflection, smile.

Doing this not only helped me feel like makeup was not necessary to feel presentable (something that I thought I already believed but internalized more of a dependence than I’d thought) but also helped me to have a positive association with my own face! I hope this can help motivate people that want to be less dependent on makeup and more comfortable in their own skin!

*terfs don’t interact!!*

oh can I also just say???

I am 21 now, and I started wearing makeup regularly when I was around 13-14. I’m going to guess most of the women that wear makeup daily could say the same.

So when you think about it, the majority of makeup-wearing women have not seen their true, unfiltered, makeup-free Adult Faces.

Like yeah, you see what you look like when you take your makeup off at night. But unless you go at least a month without it, you haven’t really seen your face. You haven’t seen your face without yesterday’s eyeliner still sort of smudged. You haven’t seen how clear your skin could potentially be. You haven’t seen all your freckles on your cheeks when you smile. You haven’t seen how alive you look when your cheeks and nose get flushed. You haven’t seen all the beautiful colors the hyper pigmentation add to your face. I am an adult, and I’m just now finding out what I look like.

I love that Tolkien took a paragraph aside in Bree, after all the horses were run off, just to let us know that A) Merry’s ponies were going to be fine and B) Mr. Butterbur would not, in the long run, suffer financially by the incident. He understood what was really important.

Tolkien would have let us know how the Cabbage Man was doing.

One of the recurring themes in Tolkien’s works is that the world belongs to the baker down the street as much as it does to the Lord of the Golden Hall.  In almost every city we visit, Tolkien talks about shops and living arrangements and where people work and how they get their food.

One of the noticeable things about Tolkien’s Enemies are their complete disdain for the little people – even the ones that are loyal to them.   Smaug, Sauron, Saruman are all rich, powerful, knowledgeable.   All of them are disdainful of those weaker and smaller than they are, while Sauron and Saruman are obsequious to those stronger than they are (until they can become stronger).   They don’t value parties and lunch and working in the garden.

They’ve missed the point of life.

a lot of male writers, directors, etc. idea of a feminist character is just a woman they think is sexy enacting revenge fantasies on characters the creator doesnt like

*men writing “feminist” characters* “yes she only dresses and behaves in ways i find sexually appealing and she can’t even make facial expressions i don’t think are pretty but i gave her a weapon and wrote one(1) scene of her punching someone who said something sexist so this is actually groundbreaking”

all this to say that i should be allowed to hunt quentin tarantino and joss whedon for sport

Some say that the Greeks coined the term ‘barbarian’ because foreigners who didn’t speak Greek sounded like they were saying ‘bar bar bar.’

Theory: what if the first ‘barbarians’ that the Greeks happened upon were simply the Beach Boys in a brief yet dramatic time slip, performing their hit tune “Barbara Ann.” Sample lyrics: “Bar bar bar, bar, Barbara Ann. Bar bar bar, bar Barbara Ann…”

It wouldn’t be TERRIBLY improbable. After all, they get around.

An associate of mine posits that the Beach Boys were the Sea Peoples who caused the collapse of the Bronze Age

sorry but if you view éowyn’s decision to put down her sword and “be a healer, and love all things that grow and are not barren” as weakness or submission and not the strongest possible thing she could’ve done after her trauma you are terminally stupid

anyways the version of much ado about nothing starring catherine tate and david tennant as beatrice and benedick is a Classic. david tennant’s benedick is FULL chaotic dumbass, and catherine tate’s beatrice is past being full of rage and is completely done with everyone from the very beginning. plus, they just work off each other so well.

not to mention the costumes and props. benedick in drag? BENEDICK IN JORTS AND A SUPERMAN SHIRT? beatrice wearing a suit? beatrice swaggering around with a beer in her hand, while benedick sips on pink, fruity cocktails? benedick writing his love song to beatrice on one of those stupid little electric keyboards? unparalleled artistry.

nothing makes me happier than this moment

oh absolutely ICONIC. and the fact that he gives his whole monologue after whilst covered in paint. “love me? [beat, looks down at his paint covered self] why?” truly how shakespeare intended it

I also love this. what a way to kick things off.

[Image Descriptions: Three images of David Tennant as Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing. Two gifs of him wearing cut-off jean shorts and a superman shirt, smearing paint all over his chest and face. One still image of him sitting in a golf cart covered in union jacks with his feet up on the steering wheel, sort of hanging off the thing. He’s wearing a military uniform. This is Benedick’s entrance in the play. End description.]

Enjoy!
