Meet Cherish and Kelly. They’re here, and they’re the most queer.

Cherish is a lesbian woman who is subverting society’s expectations of what it means to be a lesbian, “I don’t feel the need to shave, take HRT or have any kind of surgery to be a woman because feminism is about living naturally as a woman without ascribing to oppressive beauty standards.” says Cherish in her stunning button down shirt she found in the men’s department. Her decision to keep her beard, wear pants and men’s shoes are an absolutely fabulous way to tell the world how gnc she is.

Kelly on the other hand feels no need to call themself a man OR a woman because those binary ideas are a social construct, “Sex is pseudoscience, it’s something created to oppress non-white people.” Kelly says in a moment of pure wisdom.

I sat down with this queer couple in a trendy coffee bar close to where Cherish works as an editor for a publishing firm. No one around us takes notice of this couple who bravely face the world everyday, they know their queerness isn’t accepted by everyone but this doesn’t stop them from letting anyone who mistakes them for heterosexual know that they aren’t, this takes guts.

Kelly and Cherish plan on getting married soon but worry about finding a church accepting of a lesbian marrying a non-binary female, “Religious institutions are still so homophobic and it’s probably going to limit our options. They’ll take one look at Cherish in her tuxedo she wants to wear and flip, it SCREAMS butch!” cries Kelly.

They go on to tell me how other lesbian couples seem to avoid them and know it’s because transphobia runs rampant in lesbian circles, “They’re just jealous that Cherish is more of a woman than they’ll ever be and she has an organic strap-on.” Meanwhile they ensure they’re on the frontlines at Pride and do their utmost to make sure lesbians know that people like Cherish are the future lesbians can look forward to.

The couple wants children but doesn’t quite know yet which one is going to carry. Those of us at QueerPride Weekly wish this very queer couple good luck in their future.
