Rest in peace Nichelle Nichols, December 28th 1932- July 31st 2022
“Last night, my mother, Nichelle Nichols, succumbed to natural causes and passed away. Her light however, like the ancient galaxies now being seen for the first time, will remain for us and future generations to enjoy, learn from, and draw inspiration.” - nichellenicholsofficial
Nichelle Nichols has passed away.
Martin Luther King once convinced her to continue on as Uhura when she was about to quit. He told her how she was a role model for so many people and had to stay on. He rightfully recognized her as a trailblazer and the inspiration she continued to be.
(Second picture is Nichols participating in a recruitment program for NASA in late 70s/early 80′s, aimed at women and people of color. The third picture is Nichols onboard the stratospheric observatory for infrafred astronomy in 2017, as one of the first non essential personell to be able to do so)
obsessed w actors who are obsessed with their own characters like not in a weird “method acting” way or whatever but in a yeah this is my character and this is the novel length backstory i wrote for them in my head and here’s the thought process behind the line i improvised and here’s what i think they did after the ending and whether or not they like olives on their pizza
“My blorbo from my job”
Headcanon that because Data doesn't need to eat he really only uses the replicator in his quarters for spot's food so whenever someone replicates something she thinks it's for her. Geordi gets a cup of coffee in the morning and spot hears the replicator sound and just immediately runs up to him meowing
It's so important to me that spot is an absolute menace and also Data's special little baby. She wants a snack so bad. She demands it
also i’ve already passed this in my ds9 watch but literally the kira surrogacy arc shook me to my core. what do you MEAN she moved in with miles and keiko for five months and that she and keiko were snuggled up on the couch gossiping so much that miles wanted to invite JULIAN to live with them to even things out. what do you MEAN miles and kira couldn’t go to bajor together because they would have 10000% fucked. what do you MEAN miles literally got into a territorial pissing match with kira’s boyfriend while she was giving birth
I thought you might be avoiding me.
Trill redesign :) Jadzia gets to glow in the dark because i like her a lot and i think she's really neat
you know who my ba (best andorian. like best boy) is. whos yours?
Honestly that's a super hard question. Other than our obvious fav Shran, I'd say two Talas because she was awesome and I kinda shipped her and Malcolm Reed. But also, idk if you played Star Trek online there's a really really awesome space pirate called Rae-Yeet who has among other things a pair of ushaan-tor he fights with and sadly is more than what we'll get from the show it seems!
can you infodump to me? (i love you) is this overwhelming? (i love you) is this the right texture? (i love you) is it ok to touch you? (i love you) do you want the subtitles on? (i love you) do you want to go somewhere less noisy? (i love you)
Proficiency in both ranged and deranged combat
Gay as fuck to be a female starfleet officer. Why are you boldly going where no man has gone before? To look for a woman??
“I know Andorians don’t do fun?????????????????????????” Excuse me?? Since when??
Discovery season 1&2 - You know those species that you got to know from previous shows, well they’re not here. Discovery season 3 - You know those species that you got to know from previous shows - Here they are and they’re bad now.
The Trill, another known and loved species is now basically gone and is now dependent on a human...And also kinda shitty
Discovery Rewatch: Michael Burnham growing out her hair, having an actual human (and black) hairstyle, training in martial art in her free time tells me everything I need to know about her time on Vulcan.
What's really standing out to me in DS9 so far is how it keeps making enemies of loved ones and loved ones out of enemies. The very first scene is Sisko losing his wife because of Locutus - Picard, a beloved Captain of the franchise and therefore one of the embodiments of Starfleet and the Federation, caused another Starfleet Captain unimaginable pain.
Worf loves his people, and has to fight or betray them.
Garak loves Cardassia, and so fights and betrays Cardassia.
Marritza loved Cardassia, and so he stood up and tried to bring it to justice.
Kira and Odo find love even as much of the show is centered around the war against the Dominion and Odo's people.
Kira hates the Cardassians, but loves Ziyal and was moved by Marritza's guilt.
Damar killed someone Kira and Garak loved, and eventually they mourned for him too.
Everybody hates the Cardassians, and yet we keep being shown sympathetic Cardassians over and over again.
The show just keeps having characters stand up against the people they love dearly in the name of what's right, and forging bonds between characters as their planets wage war. It's just something special.

More from discovery rewatching- I’ve seen the two first seasons again and it’s just not good. It’s not bad, it’s a good science fiction show it’s bad star trek. There’s too much drama, too little character time ( here’s a person trapped in a metallic body - poof now she’s dead) I mean the character insight we could have gotten!! There’s an AI that wants to destroy all life, there’s marvel-style drama, there’s flashlight and a species that has literally lived in FEAR and in villages until yesterday is now swooping to help you in a Star Wars-like fashion. Yeah. No. It could have been better if the show runners wanted to make Star Trek, together with serious moral dilemma, silly the-holodeck is malfunctioning, weird new species that get your chief engineer pregnant etc, antagonists that you like and dislike at the same time... anything that had a trek vibe, making your character Vulcan aligned does not cut it.
