I've finally finished my little homumiko/mikohomu doujinshi project and the digital copy is now available to be purchased and downloaded! There are an English version and a Japanese version and each of them can be downloaded on one of the links below. Thank you so much for your interest 😭❤
Hi C :) I'm sorry if you've answered this already (and maybe it's a bit of a dumb question), but I was wondering how you go about colouring your lineart. I feel like whenever I do lineart and add colour, the lineart just looks like it's "on top" of the colour and not part of the whole drawing, if that makes sense.
As always, thank you for always taking the time to answer our questions!
AAAA It's not a dumb question at all, thank you very much for the inquiry Anon 😭❤!
I never use pure black to make the lineart blend with the overall artwork (unless I want to for stylistic choice), so I start off with drawing the lineart in reddish brown (sometimes I forget to pick colors when doing lineart so I end up clipping a single color layer on top of the lineart 😭), and then I put a color layer on top of the lineart layer and clip it to the lineart layer (this is a layer of all the colors of the artwork merged together without the lineart - as seen in the 2nd image), after that I change the color layer's blending mode to linear light, finally I make a layer on top of the clipping mask layer and paint it over a little to tidy up the lineart and blend it (like making it look not too lineart-y)
I hope this helps and I know I've said this in the previous ask but I'm so sorry for the late response O(--( I hope you'll see this Anon 😭💦
Hi clef can I ask do you have any tips as to how can I make my colors cohesive? Like sometimes I start with the skin and it looks good then by the time I color in the clothes, boom! The blue is shouting at you or if the clothes look good the skin appears muddy or pale or pink or orange 🥲 I can't seem to make it easier and it takes too much time for me to pick local colors its crazy. I dont want to use color adjustment sliders or what they are, I want to learn just by selecting them. Thank you Clef 😊
ADJFKDSHJFKD Ok this is actually embarrassing because I hate picking colors too and I have no idea how they work 😭 So whenever I'm picking colors I just choose them from the swatch tab Orz
But it's actually an easy issue to trick, you just need to add a new color layer on top of the local colors and set the blending mode to whatever your heart desires (in this example I use multiply, but other modes give interesting outcomes too!) Since the glazing layer only has one color, it tends to give you a more coherent color outcome even when the local colors clash with one another.
hey! your art is really cool, but i think you're also really cool! have a good day, stranger :D
(That's me peeking my face out of the trash can to thank you 🫶❤)
Hi! I got into TGAA only a month ago, but since I finished and went to the fandom to search for fan arts, your works simply astounded me! Your composition, coloring, expressions! Your style is literally perfection and inspired me to try my hardest in drawing again so I could be someday at yours level! (I literally scrolled your ask tag for a whole day >///<) But my problem is my impatience so I rush into drawing without setting all the forms, guidlines, etc and get depressed when it all feels wrong... And even if I draw something I like I should really take my time to do details, but even then the imagine in my head is different to what my skills can do... Do you have any solution for such problem? Anything is fine, thank you in advance!
WAAAAA I'm so happy you like them Anon!! Thank you very much 😭😭❤
If you're struggling to establish a coherent idea in your mind, try making some thumbnail sketches before working on the real thing! I know it may take time but I think it's a better way to solve the problem and you won't be left with polished art you're dissatisfied with.
I don't really do thumbnail sketches for looser work, but for zines and commissions I usually do thumbnail sketches to see which idea works best and how I'm gonna execute said idea! Thumbnail sketches don't have to be black and white lineart sketches, you can also add some colors and a little shading to them (I always skip the color choosing part because I hate picking colors ABDSHSDKJ) and keep in mind not to overdo it!
I hope you find this helpful Anon and I'm so sorry for the super late reply 😭
By the way I'll be disabling anonymous ask for a while because I still need to answer some of these requests for art tips, I hope that's alright! I'll notify you guys when anonymous ask is back on business again!
Hi C! Reading the other anon, I think an INPRNT would be the perfect solution for you, for prints at least! I would really love to support your work and have your art on my walls!
My friend also recommended inprnt for prints and I've been thinking about using that service too for a while, I hope they accept 72 dpi images tho 😂
I feel like this has probably been asked before but have you ever considered doing physical doujins or physical art collections?? I love All your art and I've bought all your digital works but I'd Love to have something physical of your work to treasure forever 🥹
I'm honestly so flattered that you guys take interest in my work and consider supporting me, I really am 😭😭 But these are all my worries about releasing physical products, even hmmk zine -where I took part as one of the moderators- is in digital form because we decided we didn't wanna take the risk of production and shipping 🥲
have you heard of osomatsu san!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have and it's fruitless if you're attempting to make me watch it because the fandom made me hate the show and any content related to it 😭😭 I'm truly sorry!!!
Hi C! Love your artworks very much ^^ I'm in AA fandom for a year now and almost for this exact time I appreciate your illustrations. Your art is a bright cosy gem❤️
Sorry for my clumsy English ^^'
I don't know if anyone asked you this before, but I'm curious: how do you think, why do you like AA ships you like? I mean, people's gonna ship, that's a known fact, but what makes you happy about your favourite couples?
For example, I love Phoenix and Edgeworth, because I like a couple dynamic, where a goofball can emotionally save an iceberg of a man from loneliness and isolation, an ice melts and a person under it can finally have someone to care about. I guess I wonder if you can describe your favourite couple dynamic :)
Honestly shipping to me is like this abstract concept I can't really categorize nor describe, I don't really have any specific shipping dynamics I'm so particularly into so my taste in shipping is pretty broad, as long as they have good relationship and my favorite character is involved in it 😂
Though I'm a sappy person who enjoys some good romance and I think I mostly ship best friends with the slow burn tension (not the love at first sight kind), which I know sounds so basic and obvious and uninspired, but there's something so heartwarming about the relationship between two people who slowly develop trust and affection for each other as the time passes by to the point they can't imagine living without that person :')
There are some ships that made me think "Huh, this actually might work" But later I found myself not being too attached to the pairing because they lack that sentimentality between the characters.
Hi C, can i hold your hand? <- (big fan of your art and tips were useful, grateful anon)
𝓨𝓮𝓼
I LITERALLY LOVE HOW U DRAW SHOLMES LIKE SEEING HIM IN UR ART STYLE HAS ME GIGGLING AND KICKING MY FEET🥹🥹🥹
ASHSKSHSKDBDJ ACTUALLY THIS IS QUITE FUNNY 😭😭 Tbh even to this day I still can't get that specific charm of his just right, like he has this mysterious and masculine yet gentle with a little bit of silliness and cool vibe that I really love (his bedroom eyes really enhance this aura), but whenever I draw him I tend to make him look plain angelic, I feel like this guy from Tomie fr 😭
you are always so gracious and humble and ready to help!! i really admire how you carry yourself
Hi C! Just wanted to thank you for being such a great inspiration and always sharing tips and usefull stuff for all of us <3 Today I felt kinda down and I didn't wanna draw, but I went to your media tab on Twitter and instantly wanted to draw again!! Do you have someone like this too?
To be completely honest, I don't think I have any artist who's powerful enough to pull me out of art block 😭 There are people who make me motivated to keep drawing , but when art block hits and I feel the crush of self deprecation and impostor syndrome the only thing I can do about it is just waiting for it to get over soon :') And sometimes I'll look back at my art to ignite that desire to draw.
Tho I'm really happy to know that I can be that powerful person who can pull you out of art block Anon 😭❤ Ups and downs during your art journey are unavoidable, but I hope you'll keep doing what you love 🥰!
Hi, C! Hope you're having a great day. Did you get an IPad by any chance? 👀 When you were testing the doodling mode I saw that you were working in vertical. Sorry for being so nosy, I just wanted to know if you finally got an upgrade! c:
😂😂😂 Yes I got myself a new drawing gadget but it's a samsung galaxy tab because it's cheaper hehe... I worked in vertical because it was easier for me to see the whole picture since the characters are standing, but I've been drawing in horizontal lately!
(here's the doodle test if anyone's wondering!)
Hi C! This is probably an annoying question, but I was curious on the brush you used for the latest drawings, for HMMK week, the one that looks like pencil? Also, I'm in love with the artworks, I've been staring at them for longer than I would like to admit haha.
It's not annoying at all, thank you so much for the question 😭! I used this brush for all the drawings I submitted for hmmkweek, tho I can't remember if it's a brush I downloaded or one of the default brushes in CSP :')
Hi, C! How do you feel when you see artists who clearly got traits in their art from you? You know when you look up to an artist a lot and end up including lots of their "artistic decisions" on your own work, and it shows. Does it feel creepy, good, weird?
I don't think I've experienced this so I can't say for sure, I know some artists are quite... uh... for the lack of better words, bitter about it. But it's totally understandable because art style takes years to be polished and developed, and I can see their point when they don't like that some people try to copy their style and claim it as theirs.
But as for me, I would feel honored if someone tried to draw in my art style, because it means my art style is interesting enough for them to be scrutinized over 😭 One thing is, even when someone tries to explore their art in another artist's style, it would be best to put more references and combine them in their art, because the beauty of human-made art is there are thousands of varieties of the same object.
I just want to thank you for answering so many questions about how you draw certain things. It's really kind of you to take the time to do so and it helps me a lot!! Have a great day <33
Honestly I'm always so happy to know that my little tips could help fellow artists out there 😭 Thank you so much for your kind words and have a great day too Anon!
