How do you pick your colors when you draw/design characters?

i start with going on the internet and looking for color palettes to start off with. i alter them as i go, this is just a starting point
i used the left for indy, and the right for light.
when i alter the base colors, i look for contrast (adjacent hues having contrasting values) and cohesion.

We eventually decided that Jeanne’s theme color would be red. I was hoping to give her a bit of a futuristic flavor by going with a plastic texture for her clothes.
