Cockatiel therian and questioning amphibian, she/her, 23

Intro post

I am a 23 year old cockatiel therian, specifically a wild type cockatiel. I’ve known I was a therian since some time in 2017 and have been posting here since summer 2018.

Original posts are tagged #tiel talks

Youtube channel for animations, nature/therian poetry, bird therian content, etc.

Therian amino account that has content I haven’t cross posted to tumblr yet

Tiktok account that I don’t use much anymore because all the therian tags have become overrun with quadrobics, making it very difficult to find any other therian content there. :(

Wattpad account where I have a series of short stories about my bird therian characters, the main theme being the experience of being a newly independent adult but also a bird(not physically)

I’ve been seeing a lot of tiktoks lately about ‘fake therians choosing their theriotype’

But we shouldn’t jump to conclusions with everyone.

You might see a MLP fan say they’re a pony therian.

You might see a furry who’s theriotype is the same animal as their fursona.

You might see someone with the very common wolf theriotype.

To use myself as an example, you might see an autistic with a special interest of the lion king be a lion therian.

Some see these types of therians and think ‘they’re not a real therian, they just have a favourite animal.’

But to me, my lifelong attachment to lions was the most telling sign that I am one.

Yes!

The furry bit always seemed... Especially strange to me. Of course I want a fursona that represents me in the best way possible! why would a therian use a different species for their sona?

Getting art with your sona-aka-yourself-in-your-true-form feels awesome! It's a great way to express yourself.

Also "oh I'm a furry and this is my fursona, I am very connected with it" is often WAY EASIER to explain than "I genuinely believe that I should be a dog and I also feel phantom limbs" and usually causes less weird questions

Reblog if you’re an Otherkin/Therian over 18.

And add you age to the tags, please.

I read somewhere in that otherkin is just a phase and that all of them are minors, and now I’m curious, how many of you folks are over 18?

Thanks.

I wish youtube search had a word filtering function so I could find therian content other than “therian quadrobics tiktok compilation” That stuff is cool and all, but I’d like to be able to find other non-tiktok, non-quadrobics stuff

One thing I miss and long for in a flock is a sense of community and involvement. Being in group voice calls, even though I don’t really talk because I’m an anxious little creature, feels almost like being with other birds. Communicating in chirps and screeches in flight, perched in the trees, foraging in the fields.

I feel so close yet so far away to feeling like part of a flock. It doesn’t help that my irl group is rather small. Looking back, years before I even knew what therianthropy was, I found myself homesick for the concept of travelling in large groups, incorporating that and other birdlike feelings into my drawings and story concepts at the time.

One of the funniest failures of US school system is the fact they are legally obligated to teach us all the states but they never actually show how big Alaska is like I have actually had teachers tell me that Texas is the biggest state. We have all just convinced ourselves that Alaska is that small shrunken down thing on most US maps and the people that know it's the largest state can almost never accurately describe how large it is.

For context here is a picture

It has a national park that’s bigger than maine. Or Switzerland. A park.

I lived in Alaska for two years and I will never get over the sheer overwhelming bigness of it.

Nights where the sky is clear you can see clusters of stars or the Northern Lights dancing. When the lights are rippling especially strong and fast you can hear a static crackle in the air. When the moon is out after it’s snowed, you don’t need flashlights to see. Everything glows and glimmers like polished quartz.

But when the sky is clouded over so you can’t see the stars, you can kind of almost sense the mountains towering over you and helping to block out the light, these giant monoliths acting like this void darker than your soul. I’ve never experience night like Alaska night.

Everything is big, the mountains, the sky, the valleys.

And the dark.

being a birdkin musician. first of all, the euphoria. music of all kinds makes me feel so bird, in such a weird way. pigeons don't play musical instruments, and still I feel more like one when I play them. and like. birds were meant to sing. (so were all animals that make Noise, I am a firm believer in that, but it hits harder for me with birds) birds were meant to sing! if the imposter syndrome is real, then you wouldn't have a voice, would you? if you weren't supposed to be making music then why is there a guitar in your hands?

but many pigeons have coos that sound a bit grating to some. we aren't the songbirds that people love. we are harsher sometimes. we bark, we are clumsier, we are stranger. birds are Noise, you don't need to be a songbird to make music, your coos and barks and everything can be just as melodic, just as pleasing and joyful, to the right music. make pigeon music. who is to say that your voice is wrong, if it is not hurting you? if it is the one that comes out of your throat? the one that serves you and who is to say that clumsiness is a sin? I don't know where I am going with this. this is a very half-finished though. :/
