I’m 21, she/her and a sucker for a love story (:
Probably won’t post very much but I love and applaud all the creative humans on here all the same <3 All Marvel, supernatural, teen wolf, Harry Potter, merlin, Criminal minds, Cassandra clare, Percy Jackson, Outlander, Sherlock … it’s bad

The Pevensie children are too old for their age.

Their mom notices, at the dinner table. She sees no nagging children, no stupid fights. She sees Lucy eating and speaking with perfect manners, Edmund analysing the economy and war with concerning skill, Susan being gracious but poised, like a diplomat.

Their father sees it in Peters eyes the first time they get into a fight. When he moves to punish Edmund for speaking out of turn, Peter calls him out on it. When his gaze meet his eldest son's, he's leveled by the war he sees behind it, the tensed muscle in his arm, the knuckles white around his knife. He's seen that before, in other soldiers. He doesn't know how to react.

Other children notice, too. Talking to all the Pevensie kids at the same time is like being the only one left out of a secret, and the way they touch and tease each other speaks of a history far deeper than their polite demeneor lets on. And when they walk they fall in line, as if there is a natural hierarchy between them.

The first time anyone picks a fight with Edmund, Peter comes home with a three week suspension and blood around his mouth. He looks more alive than you've seen him in weeks.

When Susan gets back in the pool after Narnia, she wins all the contests. Coaches can't explain how to beat her, because they don't understand how she's doing it, either. She seems to almost disappear when underwater.

Lucy, always gay and golden-haired, starts dancing, and never misses a step. She moves with an elegance that no 10 year old should have, and all the girls want to be friends with her

Edmund soon becomes the best student in his faculty. He always seems to know the right thing to say, and teachers laud his ability to think through complex problems. His mouth does get him in trouble sometimes, but the boy seems uncatchable, always talking his way through the cracks. And if not?

No one actively fears Peter, but everyone is a little scared of him sometimes. He's tall for his age, sure, but there is something else, some other air that seems to give him an authority far beyond what's normal for a teenage boy. He's nice enough, but teachers can't stand it, and bullies learn very quickly that pissing him off means missing teeth and black eyes.

The Pevensies are not quite inhuman, but not fully mortal, either

This is a Buddie fic rec list where "one of them isn't a firefighter" That makes me warm and happy every time I read them <3

Part 1 || Part 2

Buck couldn’t be blamed for falling in love with his neighbour. He was powerless against the Diaz boys and wanted nothing more than to be swept up in their everything. Buck thought that Eddie felt the same, that their feelings of more than just being platonic best friends was mutual. Buck had been hopeful that Eddie inviting him to his boss’s house to meet his friends and co-workers meant that they were taking a step in the right direction.

A step that now Buck was going to be late for OR Buck gets burned at work and worries that he's blown his shot with Eddie when he runs late to meet his friends.

On the screen, the camera pans down as they introduce the contestants. Mary, on her 3rd day winning streak, is a dowdy teacher type. Center stage is occupied by a graying man with loopy handwriting named Auggie. And all the way to the right is… Evan. Damn. --- One night when Eddie can't sleep, he discovers the hottest Jeopardy contestant of all time (objectively). With the "help" of his team and his fairly good working knowledge of Twitter, they devise a plan to get Evan (from Jeopardy) to slide into Eddie's DMs. It works surprisingly well.

Buck Buckley (@/firefighterbuck): @/eddiediaz I’ll never be able to tug your hair now, huh?

Eddie Diaz (@/eddiediaz): @/firefighterbuck It’s against the rules, anyway. You don’t look like a fighter, though. What situation would we be in that would make you want to tug my hair?

(Or: Eddie is an MMA fighter and Buck thirsts on twitter.)

They follow the room numbers down the hallway until the last door on the right. It’s slightly ajar, and when Eddie knocks politely, it opens further.

“Hey,” a cheerful, male voice says. “You guys are early!”

When Eddie spots the source of the voice, he nearly swallows his tongue.

The man is tall, with broad shoulders and huge arms, a sunny smile on his face that looks so genuine Eddie can’t help but smile back. There’s a splash of pink over his one eye, his hair is just the slightest bit curly, and his eyes are startlingly blue. He’s also about 80% legs, and leaning on a cane to walk.

Belatedly, Eddie remembers that he should say something too, not just stare at this guy approaching them.

“Uh,” he starts eloquently. “Sorry. This one was getting impatient at home ~ Newly arrived to LA, Eddie decides to take his son to parent/child cooking classes. The instructor is so much more than he expected

stupid people. by brewrosemilk (@gayhoediaz) | 160k | Explicit

New in Los Angeles, and having recently admitted to himself that he's gay, Eddie figures that hiring a sex worker might be a good way to keep his private life cut off from his job and his son. A way to keep things from becoming too complicated.

It works. For a while.

“Wait, you need a sitter?” Chimney says. Eddie nods. “Maddie’s brother got back in town a few nights ago, he’s looking for work.”

Eddie frowns. He doesn’t know much about this mysterious brother of Maddie’s – doesn’t even really know much about Maddie, either, aside from being Chimney’s girlfriend – but he’s pretty sure every time he’s been brought up in conversation it’s not been particularly inspiring. “Is this the brother who flunked out of college because he spent all his tuition on a motorcycle?”

Chimney colours a little. “Um. No?”

or, Buck babysits Christopher and Eddie is—fine about it, actually.

Got tagged by both @devirnis and @shortsighted-owl for fuck it Friday, so here’s Buck worrying in two different fics

Proposal fic

He's fine, reads the text from Hen, He's just going to be home late. Buck’s phone dings about 12 minutes after Christopher goes to sleep, about 40 minutes from the time Eddie should be back home. He likes to think he takes it relatively well: even if all his muscles lock up and his stomach drops through the floor that it's Hen and not Eddie himself sending the message and what that might mean for his partner's current state of being, he doesn't actually fall over, or throw up, or scream, or start immediately crying. He stands there like an adult and takes deep breaths through his nose and grips the edge of the counter so hard a chipped tile bites his palm. Hen wouldn't lie to him. Eddie is fine. He'll just be home later than usual.
Buck washes the dishes, and he doesn't text Eddie. His phone might be damaged or missing or even just out of power, it happens on long shifts. Fine can mean a lot of things, he thinks as he puts away the dinner he'd left out to eat with Eddie when he gets home. Maybe he has a concussion, but not bad enough for Hen to qualify as "not fine". He probably shouldn't look at a screen in that case. Buck cleans the kitchen. Maybe it was a rough shift. Maybe Eddie lost people. Maybe he did something stupid and Bobby is chewing him out, though that's more Buck's style. He sorts laundry to run a load in the morning when the rumble of the old machine won't ruin anybody's sleep. Maybe traffic is just bad. He holds one of Eddie's shirts and takes more deep, wet breaths.

And from trapped Buck and Chris fic (sorry Chris sorry Chris sorry Chris)

Buck, by dint of profession, is not a squeamish man. While he’s not naive enough to say he’s seen every way a human body can break apart, he is grimly familiar with a wide array of grievous injuries. He’s seen almost every bone in the human body snap and fracture and barely batted an eyelid. But it’s different, it’s always different when it’s someone you love, and when he sees the unnatural bend in Christopher’s forearm he has to suck oxygen in through his nose to avoid being sick.
“Okay, o- okay, sweetheart, it’s okay-“ Buck’s hands hover helplessly around the limb. He has- nothing, there’s fucking nothing he can do about this here. “Okay, I’m sorry, just- just try not to move it, alright?”

Tagging @buckactuallys @rogerzsteven @rewritetheending @bigfootsmom @ anyone else who wants to share!

I need to share this information, it’s literally taking over my brain: I cannot explain how Buddie coded Ben Platt’s songs are. Like it’s insane.

‘Older’ ?? This is all about trying not to grow up too fast or trying to grow up right and wishing your life away, and plus the bit about an old man telling him? it’s Buck cm on we all know

In Case You Don’t Live Forever?’ imagine Buck singing this (bear with me I know he can’t sing just shshhh) to Bobbie…. Like… or Maddie?? It’s so perfect I could cry

Share your address?’ Buck might as well scream this at Eddie let’s be real, or actually visa versa

And the pièce de résistance????? ‘Everything I Did To Get To You’ please if you’ve never heard this song I swear you won’t regret it literally every single fucking lyric is about Buck and Eddie you cannot convince me otherwise, blood and bruises and parties and love and finding each other and being willing to do it again and again because it brought you that person I cAnt-

There’s definitely more, I mean I have a whole playlist dedicated to it but these are the ones that make me wanna throw myself against a wall so :)

Tagged for wip Wednesday by @rewritetheending! Here's some more trapped Buck and Chris fic 😬

Eddie wants to scream. Eddie wants to talk to Buck. There are questions he should ask - Do you know when the bleeding started? How long has it been? How bad does it hurt? Are you injured anywhere else? There is a conversation he wants to have - If I leave you here I don’t know that you’ll be alive when I get back. There are protocols, in disaster situations. If you can only save one person, you save the one most likely to survive. Beyond protocol, you always fucking save the kid. Beyond that, it's our kid. It’s our fucking kid, it’s Christopher, and I am going to get him to the surface and in doing so I am going to leave you for dead. But it’s Buck, and they never really needed words to talk, and Buck is still looking at him and Eddie knows what he'd say. He'd downplay the injury. He knows the protocol. And he’d already said it, damned him out loud - "He’s going to take you back up top and then come back for me."

as the crazy person with over 3,000 fics on AO3, who just hit over 2,000,000 hits, i have done... The Math

roughly 5% of readers leave kudos.

0.27% of people leave a comment.

truly, i GET that a lot of people, especially younger people who grew up on youtube and are living on tiktok, see "opening the page and viewing with their eyeballs" engagement in itself. but a) it's not, for fanfiction, that's not how it works; and b) "engagement" does not build a community -- interaction builds a community.

if you like someone's fanfiction, and you want more of that fanfiction, please react to it in some tangible way. leave a kudo. leave a comment. let the writer know that you didn't open it, see the first sentence, and decide it was garbage. let the writer know that you aren't a bot that trawls every webpage for AI content. let the writer know that their work is appreciated.

the point of fandom is to be a community, not a content engine. if people stop feeling like people are being reached with their work, they stop creating work for that fandom and move onto the next. there's a lot to be said for the way binge-model TV is killing fandoms prematurely... but there's a LOT to be said for the way infinite-scrolling consumption is killing fandoms prematurely.

if everyone binges a show on friday and feels weird about reacting to fics posted longer than a week ago/doesn't react to the fics they read at all, that fandom is dying out in about a month, max. even though there are probably a lot of people who would love to discuss it with someone or create more work or finish and post a WIP or whatever. because no actual community is created by consumption alone.

reading a fic is only step one.

reacting to a fic is the crucial step two of the equation.

step three is the fandom proliferating! and you getting more stuff to enjoy!

reacting to a

fic is the crucial step two

of the equation.

Buddie disappointment aside, its truly as a buck girlie (gn) that I am struggling with this seasons conclusion most. Bc on the one hand I recognize that the Buck girls are lucky, he got a lot of focus this season that others wish their favs got, but at the end of the day it's like...what was that focus even for? Eddie may have been given less screentime than deserved, but at least his journey made sense mostly: the thing with Marisol, while definitely rushed, felt sweet harmless and logical enough in the grand scheme of exploring Eddie's loneliness and need to put himself out there in life outside of his son. The biggest issue I think people have there is it being at odds with headcanons of Eddie being exclusively gay, and to each their own, but overall it was still Progress for his character (even if we can agree it was rushed and perhaps unnecessary since Eddie already does have partnership in his life...) Meanwhile, Buck's journey has amounted to nothing concrete; most of us cannot parse out what he is supposed to have learned from the lightning or the baby, or how Natalia and a new couch are any different from the old gf-couches. It's kinda devastating that Buck Dying, the most significant storyline they could give him, amounted to essentially nothing (besides offhand dismissal of deep rooted trauma he has with his parents, something we wanted to see fully broken down) bc where do we go from here? I feel guilty asking for more Buck pain / Buck-centric storyline after a season full of them and when other characters deserve focus, but idk how else we are supposed to have progress for him. Buck's my favorite character precisely bc there is such depth and potential in his emotions and trauma and persevering Goodness and need to be really Seen... I just want the show to actually Do Something with it.

Oliver is hoping for more Buck pain in s7 and i have to agree, even after a season so focused on him, bc baby boy needs a breakdown so bad.

Anon, you're speaking my language.

And you're EXACTLY right.

The Eddie/Marisol was fine. It was honestly quite cute and silly and god knows Eddie DESERVES to be cute and silly for once. Whatever. Let it run its course.

But Buck...I'm just struggling to understand what I'm supposed to be getting out of his storyline this season. As you say, there has been plenty of OPPORTUNITY for growth and Realisations and healing, but how much of it have we actually seen? They sort of hand-waved his childhood trauma with the coma dream and left it at that. He struggled with the idea of life and death and then seemed to move on from it without much of a resolution. He's spent literal years searching for his own family and he's FOUND it, yet his endgame is presented as a woman he just met. He started the couch storyline with the idea that he didn't NEED a couch because he was happy on his own (with the chair) and it was pretty heavily implied that the whole goal was either for that or for him to choose his OWN couch, not one picked out by his mother or a girlfriend. And what happens at the end? He goes to get yet another couch with yet another girlfriend. It puts him right back to where he started. So what was the POINT?

Then we had this theme of fathers/sons which ran through the whole season. They showed us time and time again that buddie+chris are a family unit, Buck is Chris' other father and that family doesn't start or end in blood. But they completely bypassed the opportunity to cement that and show that he understands it.

Idk. Maybe I'm too literal and I want it all to be more obvious than metaphors and implications. Maybe I just expect too much. I just don't feel like we're GETTING anywhere - whether toward buddie or toward Buck's ultimate happy ending in another direction. He moves forwards and backwards again constantly. He has this search for love and family and meaning and he SEEMS to get it, then loses it, then gets it again, over and over and never seems to learn from it. And I KNOW, I KNOW he is traumatised and that healing is not linear or easy and that people regress. At the same time, this is TV and it's been five goddamn years, we have to see resolution SOMEWHERE, right????????

That's not to say Buck hasn't grown. He absolutely has. The Buck that rescued his family from the bridge and delivered that baby was MILES away from s1 hot-head Buck or s5 depressed in a toxic relationship Buck. But in terms of his ultimate, overarching journey, idk where we're going now. And that's all TOTALLY aside from how much work has been put into buddie which has seemingly been completely sidestepped.

I don't get it. And I'm disappointed and pissed off and so, so frustrated. I love Buck and I love Eddie and I (mostly) love this show but dear GOD, idk how much more I can put up with.

I love seeing grown humans setting about little creative tasks out of boredom and then looking quietly pleased with themselves, like maybe a middle-aged woman on her train home from work manages to make a tower out of empty coffee creamers and gazes at it proudly for a few seconds.

I love seeing other people make the overblown OOPS I FORGOT SOMETHING performance for no-one that most of us do when we have to turn around in the middle of the pavement.

I love seeing stony-faced people in queues unable to contain a smile when a baby looking over its mother’s shoulder in front of them locks eyes and does that astonished stare.

- when someone is standing in line and they don’t quite dance to the music playing, but you can SEE their head bop and them mouthing the words

- when someone thinks no one’s paying attention and they sing-talk themselves thru a task

- when they laugh or try to hide a laugh when looking at their phone

- when someone does the thing where they enter another space (such as a supermarket aisle) striding with total purpose, then suddenly forget what they’re doing/looking for, and stop there looking blank for a millisecond while they reboot.

- when people are looking for scissors, in their home or in a store, and they make the scissors gesture with their non-dominant hand as an aid to remind them what they’re doing.

- when automatic social interactions glitch, like when you tell a waiter that you hope he enjoys his food too, or tell the stranger on the phone that you love them.

- the hand gesture people make when they’re thinking at their computer, not typing, and their elbow rests on the table, and they feel the edge of their fingernail with their thumb. This is such a lovely little gesture and to my knowledge I have never seen it in fiction. You’d think it would come up all the time in fic.

- when you’re sharing an experience with a complete stranger (like watching a seagull throw up in public, or waiting for a late train) and you make eye contact, and some comment to each other, and then you guys are, like, ALLIES now. Like you would willingly ride to war to save them. You can’t make eye contact again, but you are very aware of them.

- just evidence of other people’s rich, baffling and complex inner lives.

i love watching couples or friends walking in tandem. i love seeing when they make each other laugh

i'd also rec everything else from all these authors they have my whole heart <3

This is an appreciation post to all the fic writers out there because y’all should be paid for writing stories and making peoples days.

I can’t even imagine how much time and effort it must take to write a good quality fic and also juggle your other responsibilities.

It actually amazes me and most the ones that I see are so good that they should be on shelves.

I’ve laughed and cried and got angry over characters but the quality of writing astonishes me sometimes.

And in a world where a lot of Tv/movie writers just care about the money and getting the biggest audience, it’s so refreshing to see writers show what not only the fans really want, but also giving more to the characters.

i get why a lot of people don’t like reading mockingjay as much as the rest of the trilogy, but i think it’s actually so essential to understanding the central thesis of the entire hunger games series.

the whole point of the hunger games is this: all human life is valuable, and artificial divisions between people keep them weak. and the only way out is radical love.

and this is something that is literally echoed again and again in the books. take, for example, gale. why is gale such an interesting, complex, and yet reprehensible character? yes, it’s because at the end katniss cannot separate his bomb from prim’s death. but it’s deeper than that. why does gale build the bomb in the first place? it’s because gale doesn’t see every human life as valuable. gale is willing to kill people and to deny them their humanity simply because they are his “enemy.” so, there’s the obvious example of his willingness to blow up the nut with everyone inside and his disregard for the human casualty. and the people in the nut aren’t even from the captiol, he just wants to do it because the stereotype of that district is their allegiance to the capitol, and gale hates that.

but there’s another scene, also in mockingjay, that i think goes under-discussed which is his view of katniss’ prep team. when katniss finds her prep team literally imprisoned in 13, she’s horrified and upset by the conditions they are in. but gale isn’t. and he’s confused about why katniss would care for them! her response is to say that it’s because they cried when she went to the quarter quell. and gale is like, “sure, but they’re still from the captiol.” and this argument is so important. because katniss argues that the prep team deserves to be treated as human beings, and when he presses her on why, she basically says because they treated her as a human being. but gale can’t see that–all he can see is that they’re from the capitol, and he’s confused about why katniss should care.

and this is, so crucially, what katniss learns in the hunger games. she realizes that she doesn’t want to kill the other tributes just because they are from the other districts. she hates the fact that they have turned her against people who are, in their core, just like her. frightened children who have been manipulated to kill other children against their will, all selected based on their district, a social divide that has literally been invented and imposed on them.

and another just absolutely essential thing to understand here is that peeta knows this all along. we talk at length about how peeta’s defining trait is his kindness. but what’s so important about peeta’s kindness is how it transcends any boundaries of social class or social division.

when peeta gives katniss the bread, it’s important to note that just before he does that, we hear his mother talking about “seam brats pawing through her trash.” peeta’s mother buys into the social divides in district twelve–she views herself as better than someone from the seam simply because of her standing as a merchant, and reinforces these class divides by refusing to extend the simplest humanity to a child from the seam. she literally refuses to feed a starving child on the grounds of a social divide, within a world that already has divided them into districts. but peeta doesn’t see it like this. peeta refuses to deny katniss food just because she’s from the seam. peeta gives her kindness. peeta gives her humanity.

and he does the same thing in the games! his entire first interview, the dramatic king focuses, not on the games, but on his genuine love and adoration for another tribute. how radical! to refuse to subscribe to a system which asks him to hate her? to want to kill her? and to instead confess his love for her? sure, katniss ends up being the mockingjay. katniss might have held out the berries. but peeta in that moment is the one who sets the rebellion in motion. peeta is the one who refuses to engage in the senseless hatred of someone who “should” be his enemy. instead, he reaches out in love.

and it all culminates at the end of mockingjay, when katniss votes for the capitol hunger games to gain coin’s trust. and peeta is utterly horrified by this. because he can’t understand how she could have been through everything he has been through and not understand that continuing to senselessly kill human beings (children!!) for some kind of revenge just reinforces these binary modes of thinking. but the thing is–katniss DOES see that. and when coin proposes it, that’s when she knows she has to stop her. because coin, like gale, like peeta’s mother, and like so others many around her, is still buying into these divides. is still viewing the captiol as the enemy. is still viewing a human life as expendable.

and there’s a quote in mockingjay that i think lays this out pretty explicitly. katniss says, after she kills coin and is recovering, point blank: “they can design dream weapons that come to life in my hands, but they will never again brainwash me into the necessity of using them.” she’s realized the crux of the entire hunger games–that manipulating us to hate and kill our fellow humans, that drawing up divisions between people because of where they live and what they produce, that believing that hating someone on the basis of any of these is justification for their death, is all a farce. it’s all a distraction. it’s all pretend. she says, in the same chapter: “no one benefits in a world where these things happen.” not the districts. not the capitol. not the victors. no one.

the entire arc of the hunger games is really just about katniss catching up to what peeta has known from the start. katniss overcoming all the manipulation from those around her, all the glitz and glamour, all the artificial social and class divides to see what peeta has seen clearly from the start: love.
