Do you think we should have gun laws as strict as Japan? I heard they were very strict with guns there, even stricter than here. I wish we had very rare gun deaths here, like in Japan.

I do, but unless the USA deals with its guns as well as Canada, we'll never get to the same kind of numbers as Japan has. Any gun control measures we adopt will help reduce crime, shootings and deaths, but with the USA's loose borders and ease of access to guns with few if any restrictions in many states, means there's always going to be some guns smuggled across the border.

Japan has the benefit of being somewhat isolated from other arms heavy countries (i.e. USA)

So, yes, but the USA has to start doing it too, and given the long and specific history the USA has with guns and culture, I'm not too optimistic and major gun control shift is going to happen outside of a few progressive states.

Are you trying to find ways to stay cool during the heat waves this summer? Here’s how the painted reed frog (Hyperolius marmoratus) survives when it gets too hot: It rests motionless on a leaf in a tightly-wound position which helps it retain body moisture and reduce its exposure to the Sun. It can also enter a hibernation-like state, known as aestivation, in which its metabolism rate drops by 50%! And special cells in its skin, called iridophores, reflect sunlight, resulting in a silvery-white color and acting as a sunscreen. You can spot this frog in parts of Africa including Gabon, Mozambique, and South Africa.

DID YOU KNOW the characters in @Netflix’s western revenge tale #TheHarderTheyFall were based on actual figures from the old west? 🤠 👆 Check out this original art by Tumblr Creatr Patience Lekien based on the IRL Bass Reeves! Born into slavery in Arkansas, Bass Reeves escaped to Indian Territory after being forced to assist his enslaver during the Civil War. Officially freed by the 13th Amendment, he became one of the first U.S. deputy marshals west of the Mississippi River in 1875. For 32 years, he hunted down 3,000+ criminals—including white men charged with crimes against Black people, and once, his own son. A fearsome quick draw artist, Reeves routinely rounded up dozens of outlaws at a time. Many think he was the inspiration for the fictional Lone Ranger. Reeves was relieved of his duty in 1907, when the newly minted state of Oklahoma’s law made it illegal for Black men to serve. (1838–1910) 🎥 Watch The Harder They Fall, playing in select theaters on October 22 and on Netflix globally on November 3.

Canada’s NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh asks the reporter, “why is this even a question?” about getting clean drinking water to First Nations reserves in Canada. He is right, if it were the suburbs somewhere, it would not be a question.

Same damn thing we do here. Should that be the priority in 2021? Anytime someone is finally ready to do right by our indigenous or minorities. We all know who becomes an economist trying to save funds. It's 2021 & why should any community not have clean drinking water?

Many of the political attacks on trans people—whether it is a mandate that bathroom use be determined by birth sex, a blanket ban on medical interventions for trans kids or the suggestion that trans men are simply wayward women beguiled by male privilege—carry the same subtext: that trans people are mistaken about who they are. “We know who we are,” Page says. “People cling to these firm ideas [about gender] because it makes people feel safe. But if we could just celebrate all the wonderful complexities of people, the world would be such a better place.”

Page was attracted to the role of Vanya in The Umbrella Academy because—in the first season, released in 2019—Vanya is crushed by self-loathing, believing herself to be the only ordinary sibling in an extraordinary family. The character can barely summon the courage to move through the world. “I related to how much Vanya was closed off,” Page says. Now on set filming the third season, co-workers have seen a change in the actor. “It seems like there’s a tremendous weight off his shoulders, a feeling of comfort,” says showrunner Steve Blackman. “There’s a lightness, a lot more smiling.” For Page, returning to set has been validating, if awkward at times. Yes, people accidentally use the wrong pronouns—“It’s going to be an adjustment,” Page says—but co-workers also see and acknowledge him.

Whatever challenges might lie ahead, Page seems exuberant about playing a new spectrum of roles. “I’m really excited to act, now that I’m fully who I am, in this body,” Page says. “No matter the challenges and difficult moments of this, nothing amounts to getting to feel how I feel now.” This includes having short hair again. During the interview, Page keeps rearranging strands on his forehead. It took a long time for him to return to the barber’s chair and ask to cut it short, but he got there. And how did that haircut feel?

Page tears up again, then smiles. “I just could not have enjoyed it more,” he says.

chadwickboseman It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman.
Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV.
⁣A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much. From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more, all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. ⁣⁣
It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther. ⁣He died in his home, with his wife and family by his side. ⁣
The family thanks you for your love and prayers, and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time. ⁣⁣
