ways to reclaim your body:

  • shave your head or cut your hair
  • go for a run, run as hard as you can
  • get a new piercing or tattoo
  • cook a meal from scratch and eat it with no distractions
  • swim in your nearest body of water, or take a cold shower or bath
  • stretch, do a yoga routine and feel every muscle
  • wear clothes that you like, doesnt matter what it looks like
  • avoid mirrors, your body doesnt need to look a certain way to be valuable
  • hold someone close, a loved one or a pet or hold yourself tight
  • lay down on your bed or on grass, close your eyes and feel yourself sink into the surface deeply
  • turn music on loud and dance however feels good
  • drink a a big glass of water or as much as you can, feel the discomfort and let it dissipate
  • try to meditate, do a body scan in whatever position feels comfortable (or uncomfortable) and pay attention to as fine a detail as possible
  • sing or hum or make noise, hear it reflect back at you, feel the way it vibrates your cheeks, your lips, your bones
  • drink some hot tea or any other hot beverage, feel its warmth spread down your throat and into your chest
  • sit outside, no matter the weather and experience it, the wind, the sun, or the rain on your cheeks and your eyelids

Things to Stop Saying to Yourself

1. “I’m no good at …”

Say instead “It’s just a skill, and something I can learn.”

2. “I’m such a failure …”

Say instead “I got it wrong, and everybody makes mistakes.”

3. “There’s no point in trying …”

Say instead “It may be hard, but step by step will get me there in time.”

4. “Everybody hates me; I’ve got no friends …”

Say instead “It doesn’t really matter what these people think about me. There are others who will recognize my value and true worth.”

5. “I hate myself. I deserve to be rejected …”

Say instead “I am beautiful inside, and have value and worth. I deserve to be cherished and be treated well.”

Bedtime Inspirational Stories - 50 Black Leaders who Made History: Black History Book for Kids  (2020)

With the same commitment to continue inspiring our kids, I am very excited to introduce Bedtime Inspirational Stories 2: 50 Black Leaders Who Made History.

As with Volume 1, this book highlights the achievements and stories of notable black leaders who made history, from the eighteenth century to today. Our goal is to teach kids about black history while inspiring and creating the sparks of greatness and elevation that our kids need.

The stories in the book include those of political activists, scientists, artists, musicians, inventors, and athletes. They are written in a fun, anecdotal way, incorporating the information that interests children the most, which is the most effective method to influence kids to read.

Every single one ofthese individuals overcame adversity and changed the world, building a way for others to live better lives. Each one worked hard and maintained self-confidence, even when others expressed doubt or said their dreams couldn’t be achieved.

This is a book that will benefit readers of all ages, races, and genders. It is a treasure to keep for life.

These emotionally charged short bios have touching and powerful life lessons that go into a child’s soul as they search for their place in the world.

Each story features its own “Life Lesson” alongside a positive message, complemented by vivid, compelling art and quotes.

At the end of the book we have included a Gratitude Journal in order to help kids, as well as adults, to refocus on what we have instead of what we lack.

there is a distinct difference in being nice vs being kind. niceness is reactionary, an extension of societal imprinting related to appearing civilized and pleasant. it’s automatically saying “hey, how are you?” when greeting someone.

kindness is very different, it looks like saying, “hey, last time we talked you mentioned [thing], what happened with that? did you get it figured out?” it comes from a place of sincerity and fosters genuine intimacy between you and others.

I won’t force things to happen but I will never stop believing. I have faith that the best is yet to come. I am working on it.

Im convinced that making art, baking, listening to music/singing and dancing around your house are very naturally nourishing activities for your soul as well as human nature.
