If you live in America and you care about people's water supply then this video is for you.

There is a proposed pipeline expansion that will bring nearly 1 million tar sands per day from Alberta, Canada to Superior, Wisconsin. It's known as the Line 3 Pipeline. The pipeline will be carrying several kinds of tar sands crude. which is a carbon intensive oil which contains 37% more carbon than conventional oil, giving it a far greater impact on climate change.

To illustrate the pipeline would have the climate cost equivalent to 50 coal power plants!

When tar sands spilled the heavy oil mixes with the sediment and sinks to the bottom of the river or lake making it very difficult to clean up.

And the company Enbridge has a long history of spills, averaging one oil spill per week for the last 15 years.

Pipeline three also violates several treaties with the Ojibwe people.

All of this and not a cent of that pipeline will go to the American economy. There are links in my bio to help educate you further as well as where to show up for protests in Minnesota.

Y'all have got to get better at handling uncertainty. Sometimes two people will have a falling out and you legitimately won't be able to tell which one was the abuser and which one was the victim. It’s already happening. Like guys I cannot emphasize this enough the studios are going to make content creators the deal of a lifetime because they have a void to fill and those content creators will then be on the do not work list for the rest of their professional lives.

There's going to be a LOT of attempts to get people to scab.

...People who scab during a strike don't get to join the union. Ever.

Studios are going to try to claim "hey here's your chance to get a start on this career." They lie. This is a chance to end this career. Sure, they can get a few weeks or months work during the strike. Maybe even have a contract for a year or two, if they're savvy.

And then their career in Hollywood is over. No more work, ever, because they can't join the union and the studios can't hire outside of the union.

Oh, and they'll have trouble getting jobs anywhere else in the entertainment industry, because unions remember who the scabs were.

yes that's how bourgeois media tries to trick workers into being against strikes. Any delays are solely due to United Parcels Service incorporated not properly paying their workers.

By not negotiating, the company - hand-in-hand with the bourgeois media trying to make that the sob story - are actually holding medical equipment for ransom.

If you're concerned about medical equipment maybe UPS should stop forcing its preload to go faster than it is safe, leaving open packages all over the place because they say that slows us down, loading tractor trailers not only to the ceiling but to the point where you can't even open them because they're that packed in. UPS is causing this shit, not Teamsters, not the employees.

UPS has never respected things like medical equipment and your packages. They don't care, it's all the bottom line.

I was quite literally told to stop repairing and taping open boxes by a manager because when you stop unloading a trailer for even ten seconds it “hurts production”.

I have to step over piles and piles of packages to get inside a trailer that’s completely swamped with them. Yes, I am crushing your packages because my supervisor told me to.

I’m expected to lift 100+ pound packages at least 5 feet high into a trailer by myself. I’m 5′4.

I watched my supervisor stack a ULD in a way that was gonna make it hard for the next person. When I asked her about it, she said “That’s the point.”

I have to climb over and onto thin metal bars and walk on moving belts to unjam chutes because they’re so heavily backed up with packages. Those jammed packages also get massively crushed by the sheer weight of packages coming down. Sorry, your Amazon box got crushed, there was a 75 pound package that the unload team sent to me instead of setting it aside as an irregular like they’re supposed to because they’re being yelled at to unload faster.

I have had over 32 bruises from various packages beating me on one leg.

When my shift (Twilight) is understaffed, instead of asking people on day sort if they want to double (which I’ve heard they want to), the supervisors just do the work instead which they’re not even supposed to under our contract.

I had a supervisor accuse me of not wanting to work because I suddenly took a week off. I took that week off because I was so stressed out and suicidal that I couldn’t drive. He also tried to get me to quit in the same conversation.

I once accidentally broke something in a package and a supervisor told me to tape it up and send it anyways. It was an acrylic shelf display and it was extremely sharp.

This job is fucking cruel. And currently I am flat broke and have spent many weeks having to cut back on the amount of food I eat because I can’t afford anymore.

We do transport a lot of medical supplies, resources, test samples, etc and those people who work those jobs, who move all of those priceless items are paid the exact fucking same barely livable wage, and I would know because I’m one of them.

I’ve never been more disrespected at a job than I have here. Walmart treated me better than this.

I’ve shared this story before, but some of the best advice I’ve ever gotten was from a writing professor who said, “The thing that makes your work interesting isn’t the stuff you’re good at, it’s the stuff you struggle with. Because you’ll either focus on improving those skills until you’re really good or you’ll figure out how to work around it in really cool ways.”

I honestly think that the lack of non-sexual nudity in public spaces has done horrific damage to American society.

We deeply struggle to understand the natural diversity of bodies because we only see naked bodies in a sexual context. We are taught that seeing nudity is somehow inherently harmful, especially to children. We struggle to differentiate between sexually suggestive and sexually explicit material.

It fucks up the way people think about and talk about sex ed. It fucks up the way people think about and talk about breast feeding. It fucks up the way people think about and talk about queer folks. It feeds into fatphobia and ableism and is all rooted in this deeply harmful puritanism.

Like, I need people to understand that seeing a bare titty in public is not going to hurt a child. Seeing a man in a banana hammock isn't inherently traumatizing. I would argue, in fact, that adults treating those things as dangerous and gross and scary is going to do way more damage to a kid's psychology than seeing the nudity in the first place.

These type of additions are vexing. Ostensibly supportive but can't help but make sure you know they're also Weird about nudity by making it about consent, doubling down on the idea that there's no such thing as nonsexual nudity, it's an action that willing partners need to consent to first. Does the breastfeeding parent need my consent to feed their child? When you see someone wearing practically see-through yoga pants, is your thought that they should have asked your consent before going outside? this is an exact example of how it fucks up the way you think, that you could read all of op and instinctually start thinking in the language of sexual assault, as if this post was about flashers

Okay this is fascinating to me because I don't think of consent as inherently sexual.

Like. If there's an expectation that going to my local coffee shop I might see someone breastfeeding, then yeah, I am consenting to seeing breastfeeding by going there. By going out in public where people wear leggings, I am consenting to seeing someone in see through leggings. But that, to me, is genuinely the same thing as like, if I go to a park that allows off leash dogs, I'm consenting to being around dogs that are off leash. Or if I go to a bar, I'm consenting to being around drunk people. (Which doesn't inherently mean I consent to being harassed by them, or even talking to them.)

There's nothing sexual about any of the above, and none of it really impacts the other person/people/dogs, just me. Do I consent to being in this situation? No? Okay I should leave/not go there.

This is genuinely the first time in my life I've realized maybe other people always thing of consent as a sexual thing and I think that's not great, actually, because there are a lot of non-sexual situations where consent is very much relevant.

And to be clear I'm not disagreeing with anything in this post. My addition is totally tangential.

So, here is where I think this gets..... sticky.

When we talk about consent, we are GENERALLY talking about things that affect us/our bodies directly, sexual or not. I consent to donate blood. I consent to getting my ears pierced. I consent to a medical exam. And if I don't consent, those *actions* stop.

When we then use the language of consent to talk about other people's behaviors in public that do not involve us in any way beyond like... discomfort? We hear bigots say things like "I didn't consent to see 2 men holding hands in public" and etc, and the intent is often to say "these things that make me feel uncomfortable need to stop" rather than the person just... removing themselves from that setting. They want the *actions* to stop. When a reasonable person would recognize that 99.99% of the time, the actions are fine, it's just that they are uncomfortable.

And it gets especially sticky when people have been raised to believe that certain actions or taboos that create this discomfort are MORAL issues. I think, as a culture, we are also really bad about just...being uncomfortable. Using the language of consent implies "this action that makes me uncomfortable, so the action needs to stop."

So when we talk about public spaces and other peoples actions in those spaces which may or may not make someone uncomfortable, I dont think consent is the right language to be using. I'm not CONSENTING to seeing a topless woman at the beach, but I might understand that it is a possibility. It is a setting in which this might occur, and going there is my choice.

In the US, nudity has been SO stigmatized that in a public space even partial nudity is wildly transgressive and can feel very threatening to people. But someone violating that social expectation isn't inherently violating your consent, just your expectations in a way that might illicit discomfort.

my service dog in training is now limping and i don't know why so he has an emergency vet appointment today. my bank account is still negative from covering the household's bills that came out while the school i work at was on break for a month (meaning i didn't get paid for a month). my sdit had a training session yesterday that didn't help financial matters any. have to pay my car insurance and loan payment because my old car had an internal engine failure and i needed to get a new one quickly. the new car has a crack in the windshield so it will need a new windshield at some point soon too, and it needs gas. all this garbage and more... i would really, really be grateful for any help people can provide. info below.
