You have to admire her audacity, if nothing else.

Literally my favourite thing about Rogue One is that it makes the opening of New Hope so funny. Like, Vader has followed Leia from a planet he just blew up seconds ago and pursued her across the galaxy and then she’s just like:Ā ā€˜I’m on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan’

Vader: You’re a rebel. I just had a fight with your entire rebel fleet and followed you here. Straight from the rebels. Of which you are a part

Leia: *dramatic gasp* rebel? Me??? Ā I was just passing through. Diplomatically. Thought it was a five-space-ship pile-up or something going on there…

death star plans? on my alderaanian diplomatic mission? it’s more likely than you think

ok but this is like legitimate Canon Improvement because I’d always wondered why Vader was so wildly furious at the start of the movie likeĀ ā€œrahhhhh bring me the passengers I WANT THEM ALIVE!!!!ā€ and now I’m like

ohh yeah okay they literally JUST blew up Vader’s base, stole his sh!t, and took off while giving him the finger from the window

while giving him the finger from the window

IT GOT BETTER

It is the best thing ever because it establishes that he knows she’s a Rebel and she knows he knows she’s a Rebel and he knows she knows he knows she’s a Rebel and—here’s the kicker—every moment she stalls him is another moment Artoo has to get the plans off the ship and head for Kenobi, and so she’s standing there allĀ ā€œRebellion? What Rebellion? Me? *kicks dead Stormtrooper underneath carpet* I don’t know about any plans, have you checked behind the sofa?ā€ and making Darth Vader’s blood pressure rise, and, oh, the best part of it is that she’s his daughter so guess where she got that sass from, like every fucking dead blue Force Ghost Jedi who got killed at the birth of the Empire is whooping and cheering from the Blue Force Ghost Afterlife seeing Anakin Skywalker get inflicted with everything they had to deal with from him.

You just know that enough people’s dying thoughts were, ā€œI hope you have one just like you,ā€ for the force to go, ā€œthis bitch deserves twins.ā€

It got better.

Hey you know that really disturbing thing where you yawn and your salivary gland shoots a concentrated spray of saliva out of one of its horrid nozzles like you’re a venom spitting snake for some godawful reason

this is the most distressing post ive ever read because not only have i never once seen or even heard of this but there are dozens of people in the notes reaffirming it with shit likeĀ ā€œyeah i do that all the timeā€Ā ā€œi had a friend who could do this on commandā€ what the real, genuine fucking fuck

Oh yeah, this! It has a name, did you know? ā€œGleeking.ā€ The web page at Health.com explains it in detail, and gives directions for how to do it.

Interestingly, the word also has other meanings, dating back to the 1500s. It was both a card game, and a joke, trick, gibe or mockery performed at another’s expense. I blame E. R. Eddison for making me look this up, long ages of the world ago, when somewhere in The Worm Ouroboros he describes two characters spoiling for fight as ā€œgalling and gleekingā€ at one another.

…Unfortunately the OED sheds no light on how the word later got itself attached to the salivary exploit. A tiny mystery for another day.

what you have to understand about dungeon meshi is that the entire conflict basically boils down to "every character is autistic but in ways that clash so catastrophically horribly that everyone thinks everyone else is a nuclear-level threat"

Watch Tracy Chapman Start a Quiet Revolution

You guys may be too young to remember, but I remember tuning in on TV with 600 million other viewers to watch Stevie Wonder live at Wembley Stadium for Nelson Mandela's 70th birthday celebration tribute in 1988. There were technical difficulties and Stevie Wonder couldn't go on yet. The crowd was antsy, milling around, singing their own songs. The TV cameras were rolling and the show had to go on, so TOTALLY UNKNOWN ARTIST TRACY CHAPMAN GOT UP ON STAGE AND PLAYED FAST CAR ARMED WITH ONLY HER GUITAR.

The crowd fell silent. Captivated by the absolute raw honesty and talent on display. Did we know we were witnessing history? A black queer artist who would rocket to fame and win a Grammy for this song the following year? I don't remember.

What I do remember is getting to the end of the song and not caring about Stevie Wonder any more. I wanted to know who this woman was!

Watch Tracy Chapman stun a rowdy crowd into silence:

Listen to her voice shake in the first line. The fear/excitement, I don't know for sure of course, but I can imagine that stepping out onto that stage was the scariest damn thing she'd ever done.

And then the tremble fades as the crowd just goes SILENT and she sings and just stuns them. The emotion in that song is just– I've heard it SO many times over my life, but I'm crying right now as I type. It just hits that hard, seeing her sing it like that. The first time, on an old guitar with no other accomplishments, to a crowd of thousands.
