And my parents' reactions depended on the injury

When I sliced my finger open with a bread knife at the age of 2, my mom - very understandably - panicked. (I was apparently confused as to whether or not I should be feeling pain. I have no memory of this, so I really couldn't say.) My mom and our neighbor were able to splint my finger so I didn't need to get stitches.

When my youngest brother, at the age of 3 or 4, tripped over a tree root and sent his top teeth through his bottom lip, again, my mother was (understandably) panicked. Mom had to rush him to the ER for that one.

When I (in my mid-20s) sliced my hand open with a pocket knife trying to remove a zip tie from a power strip, my mom called me an idiot and told my dad she was taking me to the ER to get stitches. (I remember my thought process on this one being "Is this bad enough that I need to tell Mom, or can I just stick a bandaid on it and sleep it off - my vision is getting spotty, I need to tell Mom.") (My dad came up from the basement and saw me laying on the floor and looked at my injury going "When we said you take after your father, this isn't what we meant". My youngest brother rolled his eyes and called me "Bakanda" but that's a different story.)

When we were undergoing the "toddle plop" stage and we would "plop", my parents' reaction was "Did you hurt the floor?"

When I came in with a completely skinned knee at the age of 6, Mom asked me what I did and helped me clean/bandage/treat my knee.
