It's also interesting how many times I've told someone that I'm not trans, I'm intersex and technically cis, and then they turn on this sort of "I'm talking to an idiot who doesn't know anything about complex gender shit" baby mode

As if being intersex and starting to grow a beard as an eleven year old little girl didn't force me to develop complex thoughts and ideas and opinions on gender and sex

As if I'm not in my thirties now and have been out of the intersex closet for almost five years and it took years of work to even accept my intersex body

As if I'm not a woman who has intentionally passed as a man for my own safety. For years. In Texas. And lived with the discomfort and dysphoria of hating being perceived as male despite needing to for my safety

But yeah. I don't know shit about gender, please be condescending to me and treat me like an idiot bc you don't know anything about intersex people or our experiences

[Image ID: tags that read,

“#intersex perspectives should be an integral part of queer and trans education #not because they can benefit perisex people #but because perisex people owe it to intersex people to include them in their worldview #intersex perspectives matter because intersex people matter #it's not an optional or bonus thing #to unlock Gender Nirvana #it is required so you don't end up being an asshole to intersex people”

Anonymous asked:

If you are going to have literally no criteria for being queer, then how can you say that anyone isn't? How can you refer to any person in any context as cis/straight?

If someone tells me they’re queer I believe them. If someone tells me they’re straight I believe them. This isn’t that hard

What so like a cis het allo person can just call themselves queer now?

What problem, exactly, are you so concerned about? I don’t know if you’ve noticed but queerness is still very much marginalized, it’s not as “trendy” as people try to act, and straight people aren’t tripping over themselves to call themselves queer. And if you’re worried about being “tricked” by “infiltrators”, like, you know those people can just say that they’re gay? Like they can lie? They’re not going to try and “sabotage” queer spaces by saying “hey I don’t have any marginalized orientations or identities but I’m still totally queer”, they’d just say “hey I’m super gay, love people of the same gender”

What, concretely, are you worried about happening? What’s the worst thing that could happen due to inclusivity? Because the worst things that can happen due to gatekeeping are very well-known, and I’m much more scared of that

It’s less that it’s trendy and more like, I like having my queer-only spaces. Also queer is a bad word. All our words are bad words. They aren’t oppressed, and for a cishetallo to use a slur as their identity feels a little demeaning to me. Like I dont hate them of course but the A was never for Ally . It’s not queer to be normal

Interacting with them is cool and having them at pride I’m not opposed to but as a person who’s queer it does feel like they’re kinda dressing it up

Im gonna be honest Ive never seen people like that but like, I’m allowed to not like it

I’m not going to distrust and exclude people because of a problem you made up. If someone tells me they’re queer, I believe them

“When someone tells you who they are, believe them the first time” is a really popular thing to say on Tumblr when we’re talking about people being assholes or whatever, but people never seem to follow that through to the logical conclusion of actually believing people when they really tell you who they are.

What queer only spaces are hets lying about to get into? Like it is either straight girls being openly straight at gay bars or conservatives dressing up as woman to say “ooooh, if I SAY I’m trans then you have to do whatever I say, right? Call me Princess Lovely Tits! I’m very smart at owning libs!”

Like, I’ve NEVER gone to a queer nerdy event and seen anyone “obviously cis” trying to get in. Why would they?

Also, to the original Anon-

“if you have no criteria for being queer, how can you say anyone isnt?” That’s it! You got it! That’s the fucking point!

If the mythical leagues of cishet allo people out there pretending to be queer did actually exist… good. That’s more boots on the ground at a protest, more votes at the ballot, more public pressure for acceptance and more eyes keeping everyone safe. I wish being queer was trendy and cool and easy and something everyone wanted to be, I wish tons and tons of outsiders were putting on the flags and locking arms with us, that world would be so much fucking easier to live in. Exclusionists out here imagining a vastly better world and going “noooo what if that was real? We’d better put up bullshit barriers and scrutinise everyone and push people out if they don’t bare their soul convince me personally that they can match up to my ever-changing bullshit rules! Otherwise that might happen!”

I love how different forms of art are all obsessed with each other. A book tries to capture the feeling of music, a painting tries to depict a scene in a book, a song tries to paint a picture. And it's always insufficient. No single form of art can encapsulate another form of art and capture the essence of it – but it tries, and its attempts are impossibly compelling. All the forms of art are in love with each other and spend so much time trying to express what makes the other kinds of art so lovely.

babysitting a kid right now, and hes pretend napping and ive got lullaby music on and everything (this is something he likes to do.) and hes pretending to sleep talk. This is all normal enough except the only words hes choosing to say are *snoooooorrre*…… cinnamon challenge…. my god………..Cinnamon challeng………..

Same kid just passed me a note reading “I Ned Car”

I was like why do you need a car? And he just sighed and kicked the floor and said “Needa get outta here man.”.

I will be 70 years old and I still will never have gotten over the time the Mythbusters used a rocket powered steel wall to - and I use this word as literally as possible - vaporize an entire car into red mist

If you haven’t seen this episode of Mythbusters I feel so bad for you because “What car?” remains to this day as a defining moment of my adolescence and my entire life

That was a near-religious experience

I made a gif of it for those of you who cant watch the video in your country. Or if you know you just want to stare at it mesmerized like me

*violently shakes other trans people while gripping them at the shoulders*

Cis people aren't going to accept you into their binary by undercutting and denying the experiences of other trans people! Cis people aren't going to accept you into their binary by undercutting and denying the experiences of other trans people! Cis people aren't going to accept you into their binary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We're all "failed men" and "failed women" to a transphobic society!!! All of our deviations from white cishetero patriarchal norms are punished violently and with death sentences!!! Assimilation will not keep you safe!!! Breaking all your bones to contort yourself into a cis world view of gender that actively erases and denies the experiences of other demographics of trans people will never genuinely serve you, I'm sorry!!!

hello. jew here

dont write jewish characters if u know next to nothing about us or our culture/religion pls. if u want to write a jewish character (or any character outside the scope of your personal knowledge, honestly), you MUST take the time to read about us and our beliefs, customs, etc. im not saying u have to be an expert on the torah or the tanakh or the talmud, but u need to do at least the bare minimum. and google isnt always reliable, if u have questions u should carefully analyze which websites u use. or have a jew beta your fic/writing!

im just tired of seeing “this character is jewish :) u can tell because they celebrate hanukkah” and that is it for the jewish characterization. like i get that u ppl know nothing abt judaism except for hanukkah but u HAVE to do better than that. because ur essentially tokenizing the character as ur Jewish Representation and it shows.

again, im not saying ‘dont write that hanukkah scene’, or ‘dont try writing jews at all’.

what i AM saying is that u need to actually do ur part in understanding judaism a little bit more before u decide to write a jewish character. if ur not willing to do the research or ask the questions, dont bother writing us into ur stories.

From what I've seen working in a shul and being surrounded by Jews, "Yeah they showed up in a Halloween costume and completely hammered to game night in March??? And yelled at us about some guy named Haman????"* is much more accurate if you're wanting to have a Jewish character celebrating a Jewish holiday. Also, Purim is the best and I will accept no notes on this.

*(based on the true story of how my Rabbi met my husband for the first time)

u will be thrilled to know that my synagogue had a drag performer for purim last year who read the story of purim in the campiest possible way. my rabbi also dressed as hedwig from hedwig and the angry inch. purim is objectively the jewish holiday that fucks hardest.

It's really funny that redditors convinced themselves that the stupid Tiananmen Square copypasta is going to get chinese people forcefully disconnected from their internet service or something while the UK government will get your ass if you complete the sentence "Soldier F is ___" and has actively worked with google and with social media websites to censor posts or search results about Soldier F

Like 90% of the shit people make up about China is actually true for the UK
