“I just wanted to highlight an awesome RWBY creator on YouTube who helped with making Volume 9 an amazing experience for me”

The creator in question is named ave_r_ie, also known as Avery. I discovered ave_r_ie’s channel following the release of their Episode 6 reaction video, and it absolutely warmed my heart to see just how wonderful their reaction to the Bumbleby confession scene was. Over next several weeks, I decided to check out the rest of ave_r_ie’s Volume 9 reactions as each video released. Getting to hear Avery talk about their mental health struggles and how they related to what Ruby was going through really affected me in a pretty profound way. Like Ruby and ave_r_ie, I too am dealing with my own issues with my mental health.

Without getting too much into specifics, I’m going through my own identity struggles at the moment, and find myself in a similar position to what ave_r_ie has described. In a way, these videos have absolutely helped me process my own thoughts regarding my own journey of self-discovery I’m going through, and I think they’ve done a lot for improving my overall thoughts on Volume 9 as a whole. Discussions like these just go to show and powerful and thoughtful of a series RWBY can be, and I definitely think the CRWBY writers deserve a ton of credit for tackling difficult subjects like mental health in a pretty impactful way.

In the off chance that Avery does actually end up reading this, I just want to say thank you so much for being such a positive force in the RWBY community. Your discussions about mental health and how Volume 9 has affected you both as a fan of the show and just in general have been amazing to watch. I wish you nothing but the best in conquering your own struggles, however long and difficult of a journey that may be. And thank you for demonstrating that this show matters. For all the negativity that can surround this community, your positivity has been incredibly refreshing.

I sincerely hope we can eventually get Volume 10, and if creators like ave_r_ie can help make this a reality through their love and dedication for the series, then I think we really need to support that. Seek out ave_r_ie’s channel if you haven’t already. Not only that, but spread some love for this amazing series. Lastly, for anyone who needs to hear this today:

You will always be enough.

“I always remember having this fight with a random dude who claimed that ‘straight white men’ were the only true innovators. His prime example for this was the computer… the computer… THE COMPUTER!!! THE COM-PU-TER!!!

Alan Turing - Gay man and ‘father of computing’ Wren operating Bombe - The code cracking computers of the 2nd world war were entirely run by women Katherine Johnson - African American NASA mathematician and ‘Human computer’ Ada Lovelace - arguably the 1st computer programmer”

Also Margaret Hamilton - NASA computer scientist who put the first man on the moon - an as-yet-unmatched feet of software engineering, here pictured beside the full source of that computer programme. #myhero

Grace Hopper - the woman that coined the term “bug”

Grace Hopper did more than coin the term “bug”. She invented the first program linker in the early 1950s, for the UNIVAC I. A program linker translates instructions from one language to another (for example, numerical codes that represent instructions translated to machine code that computers can read), which is the very foundation of how computer’s operate independently. she also pulled a steve rogers and tried to enlist in the military a bunch of times and was denied. then, an exception was made for her when she joined the navy reserves, and she ended up serving for over 40 years (half of which was active duty). she retired from the navy Rear Admiral Grace Hopper. she was born in NYC in 1906. Grace Hopper was a fucking badass.

also computing was typically a job for women (many of whom were black women that made incredible contributions) back in the day, so it’s absolutely fucking wild that straight white men think they are the foundation of computer innovation. men PUSHED women out and took the credit.

Also, just about every computerized device outside of desktops is running ARM chips now. Your phone, your keyboard, your car, your watch. Basically everything.

And ARM was primarily designed by Sophie Wilson, a trans woman.

Thanks for reblogging my post about Skippy and RWBY Being good! I appreciate it!

Hello! You're welcome, it was nothing No matter what people say, Rwby is really great. I've almost never seen a show that has all the things you mentioned in your post. It's so nice to see people talking about Rwby in a positive light because unfortunately I feel like there is a lack of positive reviews of it, especially on Youtube :(

Then may I recommend some positive RWBY Review videos for you. Also, try XelWriter’s Channel on Youtube.

RWBY Hot Take?

I'm going to say this, and hope nobody blows up at me for it.

I liked V4 and onward on RWBY as a whole moreso than the first three volumes. One of the reasons is everyone's storylines being separated at first, but coming together in V5.

So, yes. I liked Yang's storyline as it started in V4 and has only been expanded on later on, with Tai having to help her back on her feet. I liked Blake having to face the fact that it wasn't her fault Adam attacked Beacon and doing SOMETHING is better than trying to run. I liked Weiss' gaining freedom from her father.

I like how Renora didn't become a couple right away. I actually liked that team RNJR got to rest in V5. I loved Ilia letting go of her extremism. I loved just...everything about V6, 7, 8, and 9.

I think RWBY has gotten better and better as it goes along. The first three volumes are great set up, have good humor, and start things along but if things went too far with it...well. I love My Hero Academia, Little Witch Academia, and other stuff involving schools of heroes and magic but that woulda been boring.

And just to say this: I have my own problems with RWBY. But they're minor at best. Most of them dissolved after V3, and each successive volume seems to make things better. I may not get deep in the meta, but I have thoughts.

I think this is what’s called constructive or good faith criticism, and I like it.

Fellas, what do y’all think?

Like and reblog if you think this is fair.

I definitely have problems with the show, but I enjoy it overall.

  1. "No matter how angry you get, you try and remain calm. If you raise your voice even a little — regardless of what you say or how you say it — you are instantly labeled an 'angry Black woman' and judged wrongly, even when you’re right."
  2. "My mother taught me to ALWAYS ask for a bag and receipt, no matter how small the purchase, or you can be accused of stealing."
  3. "As a Black woman in a predominantly white area, I make a point of approaching staff first in stores when I walk in. I ask an innocuous question in a friendly, high-pitched voice, even if I don't need anything. They seem to feel safer around me and do not follow me around when I do that first."
  4. "As a Black woman, I usually keep my college jacket in the car. If I have to go to the emergency room, I'll receive better treatment if doctors see that I have a higher education."
  5. "I'm from Louisiana where they still have 'sundown towns.' Avoid them at all costs, but if you have to pass through at night, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A FULL TANK OF GAS so that you don't have to stop."
  6. "I am a Black woman, relatively new to my mostly white neighborhood. When I take a walk for exercise, I always walk in the middle of the street, not too close to houses on either side. I wear reflective gear and avoid staring too closely at any of the houses. I often think of Ahmaud Arbery while I’m walking."
  7. "I was taught to be an overachiever because no one expects a Black woman to be smart and well-spoken. I’m not expected to have a voice in anything, and many are shocked when I do. They are astounded when I can verbalize my thoughts and opinions in multi-syllable words. Melanin and ovaries do not cancel out intelligence and reason."
  8. "As a Black man, my father taught me, when being pulled over by the police, to pull your insurance and registration out of the glovebox and keep it ready on your seat. That way, you do not have to reach in the glovebox when the police are at your window."
  9. "Never EVER put your hands in your pockets while walking around a store. If you don't want to give them a reason to follow you around or call the police, your hands need to be visible at all times."
  10. "As a Black man, never get into an elevator with a woman alone. Always wait for the next one."
  11. "Something I know I have to be careful of in public (as a person mixed with white and Black) is remembering which parent I'm with and how to act. This is called code-switching. I have to make sure I act okay so I'm not labelled as 'ghetto' with my mom or 'white-washed' with my dad."
  12. "No matter how cold or windy it is, my hood stays off, and my earbuds/headphones stay off my ears."
  13. "As a Black man who loves hip-hop, I often have to censor the music that I listen to so I won't be judged as a 'thug.'"
  14. "As a Black man, if there is a white woman in line, you stand back far enough so you cannot touch her by mistake or be accused of touching her."
  15. "Knowing that I’ll be followed when shopping in high-end stores, I have product-related questions prepared for when they invariably ask me if I need assistance. Replying with 'No thank you, I’m just browsing' makes their suspicion jump, and suddenly, I have an unofficial entourage. I’m a college-educated Black man about to turn 40, but I still have to play these sorts of silly games. It can be very exhausting."
  16. "As a Black woman who works a swing shift and gets off work at 11 p.m., I will not take off my badge until I get inside my garage. I need to have a layer of protection to prove I'm not up to no good in case I get pulled over."
  17. "When meeting with executives or high-ranking officials where appropriate attire would be business casual for others, I wear full business attire. I’ve found that when I dress more formally, I receive more eye contact, head-nodding, and enthusiasm during conversations. This happens consistently."
  18. "I work in the hospital. Any time I get a patient out of bed, and they ask me to move their purse, I make sure it remains in their sight as I move it. I also hope that it’s a room with a camera, just in case any discrepancy comes up."
  19. "Don’t wear any jewelry/sunglasses of the brand where you are shopping in-store. As a Black woman, I’ve had an employee rip Gucci shades off my head (they were mine) and tell me not to stretch the merchandise."
  20. "Never let your kids play with toy guns."
  21. And finally, "I find myself begging to get adequate medical care for the autoimmune disease and pain I deal with. Pain in Black folks is viewed much differently than in white people. It blows my mind how a lot of people don't realize that Black people get the short end of the stick in healthcare."

Please reblog. This is important!

Reblog this please, somebody might really need it!

Please reblog this is important you never know what someone’s going through at home :)

Why the re-united Fodlan will likely NOT split back up anytime soon.

As I’ve mentioned before, Edelgard’s detractors really like convincing themselves that things will go right to hell shortly after Crimson Flower ends. Naturally, this is just a case of sour grapes at the devs treating Crimson Flower as no less valid than any other route (if anything the outlook is brighter) masquerading as a legitimate argument, but I’ll humor them because it’s been a really long time since I had a good idea for a Three Houses post.

A common feature of these arguments involves Edelgard actually being an incompetent ruler (Three Hopes pretty casually destroys this claim), or her successor being incompetent (ignoring that her method of succession has infinitely better methods to filter out poor successors compared to Azure Moon’s, “just hope Dimitri’s kid isn’t a shitbag, I guess,” approach).

There’s no indication that either is likely to happen, and in fact the backstory already has a precedent for southern Fodlan militarily subjugating the north and holding it for centuries. And that would be when Rhea and Willhelm rolled on up and brought proto-Faerghus into the Empire by killing King Nemesis. Why would Edelgard see less success? I mean, aside from the fact that her detractors want to believe she would, of course.

I suppose the argument would be, “obviously, Nemesis was a tyrant to the north and nobody wants him back, but Dimitri would have been real popular!” but that doesn’t exactly track with anything that would be called sensible. Now, I’m not trying to stan Nemesis here, I’m just saying there’s nothing to indicate he ruled the north poorly. “He’s a bandit, so obviously he couldn’t rule a kingdom!” doesn’t exactly track when kings in Fire Emblem are often made by being the biggest ass-kicker around.

According to the Fodlan Timeline, Nemesis ruled northern Fodlan for, at minimum, 130 years. You can’t hold that much land reign of terror style for that long a time. You just can’t. Uprisings will happen, and even if you’re super-powered enough to slaughter the peasants, you can’t just kill all your people or you have nobody to grow the food, and your soldiers (and your you) kinda need food.

Now, moving on to the most relevant point: Loog’s rebellion was only a success because of the Agarthans supplied him equipment and a strategist, and the Agarthans aren’t exactly going to be around in force anymore post-CF.

Additionally, the end of Fodlan’s focus upon Crests, Relics, and the Aristocracy, not to mention the slaying or conversion of so many Faerghan heirs, means that anti-Imperial elements wielding Relics will be all but out of play for generations to come, and men like Count Rowe’s predecessor won’t be able to unilaterally steal fortresses from the Empire without oversight.

So in summation, the Empire’s likely to remain united for many, many years to come after Crimson Flower. The set of circumstances allowing for Loog’s rebellion will likely never come again, and it remains in doubt whether similar ones could ever happen. And this is without even discussing the possibility that Edelgard and her successors provide the people no impetus to rebel against her at all. The notion they might come to prefer life under the Empire never seems to come up.

It is buck wild to me that we are three years removed from Three Houses release and there are still people using "meritocarcy bad" as someone sort of argument against Edelgard even thoguh we have no reason whatsoever to think that Edelgard's government would look anything at all like our modern conceptions of the word "meritocracy." Like, seriously, across three games that she has now been in (Houses, Hopes and Heroes) the word 'meritocracy' isn't used once, let alone to describe the kind of society that she wants.

Like, when Edelgard talks about wanting people to rise and fall by their own merits, she is specifically saying that in the context of a medieval fantasy world in which positions of power are literally determined by who has the most special bloodlines. When Edelgard talks about merit, she's not talking about our modern conception of the word meritocracy, she's literally just arguing that the guy in charge of agricultural development should be someone qualified for that position and not just the previous guy's kid.

But like, people ignore all that context and just start going on about the problems of 'meritocracy' even though that kind of stuff has absolutely nothing to do with Edelgard or the kind of society she is looking to build.

It's particularly silly when people try to use this 'meritocrcay' argument to try and frame Edelgard as being similar to previous Fire Emblem villains like Ashnard or Walhart in wanting some kind of Social Darwinist, Survival of the fittest society even though there is nothing to support that kind of argument in the game itself. There is nothing at all to suggest that Edelgard's idea of 'merit' is based upon physical strength, if anything the game suggests the opposite.

Like, look at Edelgard's A and A+ support with Linhardt for example. Edelgard recognizes that Linhardt has his own unique challenges and desires and instead of forcing him to fit into a particular box, Edelgard goes out of her way to accommodate Linhardt and find a position for him that he would actually enjoy.

You could also look at Edelgard's support with Bernadetta in both Three Houses and in Three Hopes. Edelgard goes out of her way to treat Bernadetta with kindness, and in their Three Houses A support even credits her for making her a kinder person. Like, there's a reason that Crimson Flower is the only route in which Bernadetta feels comfortable enough to stop shutting herself away in her room.

Linhardt and Bernadetta are the type of people that Walhart would crush without a second thought, but Edelgard goes out of her way to accommodate their needs and desires. The type of society that Ashnard wants to build would have no place for them, but Edelgard's does.

So yeah sorry, but the idea that our modern understanding of meritocracy should have any bearing whatsoever on Edelgard is really out of touch, and the idea that she's like Ashnard or Walhart beyond surface level details is completely baseless.
