Shameless flattery as always, thank you.
Tears can be so soft - Christine and the Queens (still familiarising myself with the whole album but this song’s been running around my brain for weeks.)
Love Harder - Kae Tempest (another constant obsession. Everything they do just makes me really happy somehow.)
Cold Old Fire - Lankum (this one’s a bit of an earworm. I keep finding myself singing the chorus to myself all the time weeks after seeing them play it live.)
Heaven Hanging Low - Art School Girlfriend (I heard this on the radio recently and I really like it, particularly as it includes that classic idea of using religious imagery in a song which is gay as hell.)
Blood and Butter - Caroline Polachek (really it’s a bunch of her songs but I do love this one. There’s no official video but really a live one’s even better because it illustrates just how ridiculous her voice is. If I hadn’t seen her singing live recently I wouldn’t believe that’s actually how good she sounds.)
Carmen amaya 1943
Carmen Amaya ( 1913 – 1963) was a Spanish Romani flamenco dancer and singer
(She was also a pioneer as a woman for this type of footwork which is usually reserved for men, and the first we know of to perform in trousers!)
“but shrouded black figures are scary!” not when ur muslim. its the funniest fucking thing. this is labeled on pinterest under shit like “classic horror” “scary phone wallpaper”
but that LITERALLY just looks like a niqabi or someone in a jilbab. Like Look at this pic of me (from a self photoshoot, now w/o the dramatic lighting and dark background)
or this pic of me
or this pic of me
like its so funny i can’t be scared of shrouded figures it just looks like me.
if i saw this i would just be like “Assalam alaikum sister, dope sword you got there”
I mean I think a part of the ‘scary background’ bit is the thing where the individual in question is staring directly at the viewer from a foggy pond in a dense forest. And also the literal burning halo
sounds like a normal Friday night. if a sister wants to go on a walk in the evening who am i to stop her. if she has a burning halo that’s the will of god.
Art School Girlfriend - Close To The Clouds (from Soft Landing out Aug 4) Looking forward to a new Art School Girlfriend album out next summer! Next single from Polly here.
"average bisexual starts 3 businesses a year" factoid actualy just statistical error. average bisexual starts 0 businesses a year. Businesses Hank, who lives in montana and starts over 10,000 each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted
I need everybody to know that this is what's the most recent update on that website, and the person who put it there is in fact the funniest person alive
Jaime Camil as Rogelio De La Vega in Jane The Virgin (2014—2019)
[ID: Two screencaps from Taskmaster. Mae Martin, Jenny Eclair and Kiell Smith-Bynoe enter a room with white plastic-covered walls, an empty white table, and three pairs of handcuffs hanging from long chains on the ceiling. Jenny says delightedly, “Oh, my goodness. This has gone a bit S&M-y.” End ID.]
The sort of useful skill all women should know.
God forbid a woman has hobbies

[ID: Five screencaps from Taskmaster. Kiell Smith-Bynoe says a little sheepishly, “What I will say is that that has been edited… very, very nicely in my favour, because I was a monster in that room.” Seated beside him, Mae Martin adds, “I’m so glad they cut it out, ‘cause it was really tense.” Kiell says, “I… I wasn’t putting fucking broccoli jelly babies in my mouth.” End ID.]

The Men of September
Blackadder II / Rowan Atkinson as Edmund, Lord Blackadder
Even though this is "just" a very funny comedy show, costume designer Annie Hardinge really gave it her all. The costumes are better and more authentic-looking than some seen in serious costume dramas. Lord Blackadder dresses all in black with touches of silver and red, which not only fits his personality but was very fashionable at the time. The snake-and-dagger design on his sleeves is really beautiful and intricate, as is the ornamentation on the cape. And he's got a proper ruff!
Note: The picture with Baldrick is actually from Blackadder's Christmas Carol, but it seems to be either the same costume or an identical one.
