self is no learn color theory from people , so way self is say explain think show , it all different , word different .

(also note , self is normally use procreate , but is use clipstudio paint for example , just so it easy post )

before start , is want say go over what color is . because Need understand before can do , understand way self do self think .

this grey . grey is one most , the most important color . lets put it with some color

this most common test people do say to mean "color weird" .

1st one , grey look lighter . 2nd one grey look darker , but both same .

To understand color is to understand color is what on canvas , not color wheel this apply to all color , no just grey .

(also , illusion happen because dark color around neutral color make thing look lighter , same other way around )

grey is most important color , because white , black , and all in between , is what All color have in common .

art is look vibrant right ?

but look at color wheel . very grey desaturated much closer to grey / white than "true saturated" color .

it because in context , with the sepia background , with light pinkish orange , it make red look bold in context . and because all share grey and next to each other in color , all harmonize

color exist on canvas , not on what color wheel say . color wheel say all these color dull . on canvas it harmony bright pretty .

what on canvas is more important than what color wheel say . context is everything

and to understand color is to understand trickery

using grey , can make any color blend , as grey all is share

is because grey can bloom to any color . harmony over grey , even if color all very different .

but is understand , if it work with grey , it work with all . this mean find harmony over anything . find something that make All common in some way

because of bloom idea , this why self always start with colored canvas , because color of bg is what use as base for all color background color is what color harmonize with

so if do bloom example with artwork shown , it look like this

as see , all is share the sepia

here more bloom . there can be many bloom

here more complex one

one color can bloom into multiple colors or even opposite color . all is need is inbetween color

they all share commonality because all bloom into each other and hold desaturation it like gradient , but not always

and using grey and ignore what color wheel say , you can make blue feel warm , and red feel cold

grey blue surrounded by warm color like orange , yellow . it will make blue feel warm

same is apply to red but other way , grey red with lot blue green make cool cold

context is what make feel warm or cold , not color wheel red doesnt equal warm , blue doesnt equal cold

Colorful does Not equal more colors , or saturated bright color

is loosing words aha , but is want remind , colorful can be do with just 3 color

and is show lot that self really only use very desaturated color , but it still all look bright

i not about how many , or how saturated , it about how use .

if struggle with color , think it like water.

when think "what color water ?" lot time think "oh it blue" but in reality , it any color , depend on context

cup of water is clear , lot of water blue , water under sunset is orange
