I tried to write your name in the rain, but the rain never came

A faerie introduces himself. Then, holding out a hand, asks, “And your name, please?”

And, like a fool, you give it to him.

I got asked for clarification on this (but can’t reblog that particular post cuz on mobile), which I’m more than happy to provide.

In this post, a faerie is asking for ‘your’ name. The way he is wording it, however, and the accompanying beckoning motion, makes it seem as though he is asking for you to physically hand your name over. Which, because of how some faeries operate, he is.

In this instance, saying your name aloud to the fae would be literally giving your name over to him, the exact consequences of which are left up to the imagination–usually, a fae even knowing your name gives it some measure of power over you, but giving something your name would likely let it completely take over your life.

In this instance, the wording you want to use is something like “I will not give you my name, but I will tell you that it’s [name].” Alternately, you can just lie to him.

Might i suggest the less direct yet still name-preserving “you may call me…”? It dodges the request while still giving an answer of a name, which does not even have to be yours, but any name you feel like telling the fae they can use to refer to you. I would recommend “Ainsel”.

The first time he asks for your name is the first time you meet him. He appears as you walk by the færie ring, that you have not entered because your grandmother has repeated so many times not to do so, and, curious of your presence, watches as you jump when you notice him.

You recognize him instantly. It is the Fæ whose influence your village is under, the one the elders have told you and your friends to be wary about, for the people who have been seen walking away with him have never come back.

You don’t know what he does to them. The villagers have never dared to confront him about it, never dare to address to him at all. He is not evil: he sometimes speaks blessings upon the cattle, talks the horses to calm after a storm, ensures a good harvest for the farmers, makes the flower bloom in spring even when the weather is still too cold. He is, simply, a Fæ, whose ways humans cannot understand.

✧witch tips✧

you guys seemed to love my last witch tips post, so here’s another one!

-figure out your elements. my magickal abilities improved so much once i took a moment to figure out what elements i align with(i personally align with fire and water). click here to read more about this.

-dont force a green thumb. being fire and water aligned, I’m not necessarily the best at growing plants–unless they have fire or water correspondences. do your research and dont try to force yourself to be a pro gardener and dont feel like you’re any less of a witch because your sage isn’t homegrown.

-get crafty. dont have a tarot deck and you still want to work with divination? make a set of rune stones with some pebbles and a sharpie, use a necklace as a pendulum, or craft a set of power objects. dont feel like your witchy tools are any less powerful because they’re home made, most often those are the objects that are actually the most powerful

-be modern, or not. if you want to use your patronus from pottermore as your familiar then you go ahead and do it. if you want david bowie to be your god of lightning then you do it. dont let old farts tell you that you’re doing your witchcraft wrong. modern symbols of witchcraft are just as powerful as the old ones, as long as you believe in them. because your magick is only as strong as you let it be, the more you believe in your magick, the more powerful it will be.

-look into your past. another thing that helped my craft was looking into my heritage. i know not everyone comes from a witch background, i was personally raised by a strict catholic family lol, but i was still able to find things. on my mother’s side we are practically able to read each others mind and we are all very good at predicting things and so i decided to try my hand at spirit working and divination, and wouldn’t you know I’m quiet good at it. both sides of my family are slavic in origin, so i incorporate slavic deities into my craft. witchcraft is about understanding yourself and the world around you, so incorporate normal thing into your magickal life.

♥♥♥ feel free to add on to the post, or let me know some things to include in the next witch tips post, may the stars guide you! ♥♥♥

good activities (that have nothing to do with the internet):

  • basket-weave with plants and flowers
  • mud baths (just sit in some mud and cover your face with it too)
  • stand naked under the moon
  • make tea with foraged flora
  • introduce yourself to the trees around your home
  • attempt to contact your friends through mirrors (or the surface of a pond or lake)
  • sit in a river and let the water rush over your legs
  • imagine what it would be like to befriend or fall in love with an ancient being from the wood- imagine them tapping lightly on your window to wake you
  • learn a special whistle to summon your needs and wishes to you
  • crunch all the leaves underfoot, or else collect them in your hair as a wreath and declare yourself the Autumn Sovereign
  • imagine your fingertips sprouting lilac
  • become a guerrilla gardener
  • kiss the hand that gentles you, or if you can’t- pretend to kiss the hand that gentles you
  • stare intently at the sky in an attempt to become a part of it
  • draw your heart’s hiding place on the floor beneath your bed
  • fill a pitcher with water and pour it out, repeat until you are fulfilled
  • acquire a spool of golden thread and you will find it has many magic uses
  • at night, put a dish of milk on the windowsill to appease the fae
  • sing sweetly to yourself (your soulmate will hear it in their sleep)
  • stitch symbols of protection into your favourite clothing, use chalk to do the same on your doorstep
  • sew a tiny pocket into the inside of your coat, just the right size for a moonstone
  • walk in a circle seven times with your arms out and eyes closed
  • write your favourite bits of poetry down in a journal (spellwork in a spellbook)
  • craft (craft !)
  • practice a dance for a ritual of your own (bonus: perform the dance somewhere in nature or in the rain)

WIJ, VERLATENEN - a wip by e.d.c.

us, abandoned ones;

we’ll never die

never fall

maybe we were never even alive at all

genre ya/na high fantasy

themes & tropes ∣ found family, redemption, enemies to friends, immortality, twisted morals, fear, heartbreak, melancholia, regret, death & magic, politics, heroes & villains, greed, being undead, enemies to lovers, apocalypse, sentient nature

status ∣ planning

water plagues Verlaten, circles it like a predator, all there is left to do is hide, behind the safe walls of Sterf and her sister cities. all there is left to do is to hunt, hunt for the ones who’ve caused this tragedy.
fox hayes is haunted, haunted by water and death, it clings to his lungs like tar, hides under his nails, cakes his soul in gore and decay. fox hayes is hunted, he hides in the shells of homes long gone, hides in dens and alleys, regret burning down his throat with every breath the takes.
he wants to do better. he wants to be better. he wants to deserve another chance, knowing he never truly will, knowing he destroyed the country he calls his home, for the water that called him son and kept him safe when no one else would.

GRAVEYARD DIRT
how to get it
plz don't just go scoop up some dirt from any old spot and call it a day. Details matter in magix, a lot. Every act needs to be intentional, because you're imprinting a new code onto the fabric of reality and if you're not doing it with conscious intent, you're not going to get the results you want. Sometimes your fuck up won't shake much up, but when it does it tends to be messy. Sometimes disastrously messy. This isn't about karma or ethics, this is about precise awareness of every step in the process. Each step together creates a formula. To get what you want, you have to use the right formula to create the right code. Intended results don't happen by tossing together shit you half understand in an ill thought out manner. If you forget to add salt, or add some old ass eggs, to cookies... they won't be edible.
Ok, so graveyard dirt. Where it comes from matters. You're buying energy, what energy do you need to accomplish the task at hand? Who the person is, and how they died are important. Looking to cause damage? Buy some energy from a violent death. Need protection, buy some energy from a loved one. So on and so forth. Put thought and intent into the planning process here.
Once you know what you're looking for, go there and ask permission. Stealing isn't looked kindly upon, even by the dead. You'll know if you don't have permission because things will feel very off and wonky and wrong. When it's permissible you might not feel anything at all. That's ok. Next, gather your dirt in a receptacle, as you do. Afterward, leave an offering. This is important. It's respectful. You're BUYING energy here, not stealing it. To steal is to ask for your dirt to be infected. Infected dirt is worse than no dirt, it can infect your entire formula and thus the code itself.
So yeah. Don't be a dumbass when it comes to collecting your dirt 🖤
That's my Ted Talk lol

the perpetual pining mood is for a gothic enclave of two or three intimate companions at most, ripping apart poems we love & sifting through the gravedirt of our pasts for rooting new poetry into, and i get to sit on top of a rather large sun warmed rock and tear into a pomegranate someone has helpfully cut into with their pen knife and eat it with my cheeks stained and red rivulets running down the inside of my wrists to settle at my elbows- they leave your skin stained like nicotine, all yellow, feet kicking idly as we debate whether or not to go through with commiting murder, as all secret societies do. hypothetically, of course

Baby Witch Tip #1:

RESEARCH THE INGREDIENTS USED FOR SPELLS. don’t blindly follow a spell you found on the internet. while some are amazing, you’ll still want to research the ingredients and everything involved with the spell in order to understand why it was chosen and if it’s right for your use of it. knowledge is a huge part of power!

you’ll want to know the history of each ingredient in order to fully understand why it was chosen. you’ll also want to choose ingredients that are meaningful to you. don’t be afraid to tweak a spell you find online in order to make it resonate with you. spells should be personal and meaningful to you and your specific situation so that they have the proper amount of intent behind it. making it personal will help bring you the power you need in order to cast the spell properly. you’re going to get as much out of it as you put in, so you’re gonna want to draw in as much energy from yourself, the divine, and around you as possible. if you work with any deities, safely calling on ones who are associated with the type of spell you’re doing will be incredibly beneficial.

that being said, this is nowhere near enough information to cast your first spell. PLEASE be careful, as spells can be tricky and will do their own thing if not executed properly. even if executed properly they can go in a direction you didn’t intend.

be safe, do your research! blessed be 🤍🧿
