I'm loving this new trend of people going to zoos and participating in animal enrichment. We use to observe large exotic animals for our entertainment, but the fact is that we are now trying to make ourselves equally as entertaining for them. It's interactive, completely parpicipatory and I would argue that eventually someone's gonna come up with something new enough that it expland ethologists understanding about how some animals think, problem solve, communicate and feel and I think its fantastic.
Human: play?
Aquatic creature from an entirely different branch of the animal tree: play!

That is the saddest and funniest shit I have ever seen
The cat is right-pawed and I’m laughing too hard about this.
this is actually really interesting because despite not actually having that limb the cat is still able to communicate exactly what it’s trying to (which seems to be “don’t touch this cup” or “this is my box”). the other cats respond to its gesturing because they recognize what it’s saying (you can see them pull their heads back or bat their own paws in response). most of the time when cats tell each other to stop doing something they aren’t actually using any real force–it’s just a gentle bop. the hitting isn’t really the point!
i actually do a version of this with my own cats all the time. i never hit them but i’ll wave a hand at them to say “no stop it” and they understand fully despite the fact that i never make physical contact with them.
this cat may be disabled but it is perfectly capable of telling its friends and family to step the fuck off
i spend my days waiting. waiting for the water to boil and my tea to be ready. for spring to come back. for more daylight. the oil in the pan to heat up. a “hey i miss you” or “can you help me out for a second?” or “you want to hang out?” text. for my phone to finish charging. for good news. flowers on the table. the next hug. “hey, you got the job!”. waiting for the sun. to set. to rise. to see both. for summer to be around the corner. a good song. a falling star. a text back. i spend my time waiting to be remembered. i spend my time repeating that tomorrow will be better. tomorrow will be better. i spend my days waiting and waiting and waiting. i spend my days waiting unbearably.
