It's been almost five months since I accidentally moved abroad and went MIA, here's an update!
I'm doing great!
I fell in love with an art program at a local university and I'm planning to enroll next year! (so happy i get the american dream of student loans haha). I thank my lucky stars I have all the support and love I can have rn, and looking back, I think I made the right choice by moving, even if I didn't mean to in the beginning. I'm so much more independent, and happy, it really feels like I'm starting to live.
Tw: my tragic backstory
this evening my fiancé and i found a kitten blind, bleeding, back crooked, unable to move, and covered with ticks and fleas. between two precvious unrelated medical emergencies, issues with paypal, and the costs of hospitalizing this kitten we are out of money. to make matters worse i was bitten by the kitten and now have two infected (swolled and red) cuts on my hand due to a bite from the kitten. i need to go to the hospital but we dont have the money for it. we dont have any family to lean back on, any savings to help, nor jobs to earn money from, we really dont know what to do. with the way things are if we want a chance at surviving we need to raise $1100. if you have anything to spare, whether it be 10 dollars or 1 it would be more than appreciated,

yasmin khans career is insane to me. this kid walked depressed out of high school and into a police station and went yo i wanna do this. and then probably did some kinda degree apprenticeship for a year and a half and then we meet her. dont think it wouldve taken her more than a year to start tugging on her boss's sleeve like lemme save a life pleaaaaaaseeeeee
she is Nine Teen do you understand. she is nineteen and she talks to some middleaged women Like That. and sure she has the authority of a badge she hasnt quite earned yet but thats like entirely my whole exact point

she is nineteen years old and she barks at someone who looks twice her age who is approximately a hundred times her age like shes a tiny dog who doesnt realise her size

no but like hear me out hear me out. you know why she listens to the doctor for the rest of time? it's like im watching woman who falls to earth for the first time. i think it's because of this:

just hold off! just lets do my plan first and then yours. and sure shes planning to be way out of the way by the time yaz gets to reporting, if she even still wants to at that point, but the promise doesnt take anything away from the claim to authority yaz made. essentially the doctor goes "yes, AND" and immediately claims yaz as her friend. she takes control of the entire situation but to yaz in that moment it must have felt like the doctor let her stand next to her. because she kinda did! let her drive her police car!
and yaz doesnt know how to deal with this. i mean who does it's fucking aliens. someone who does seem to know what theyre doing or at least where to go next must have been a relief on some level. especially when presented in this way where they dont take any of your authority away (there wasnt much to take away lets be honest)
THIS is why. oh my god this is why they are the way they are why their dynamic is the way it is like sure yes i knew that, this moment and then ghost monument "dont know what you mean" and arachnids "are we?" is the doctor very deftly setting the boundaries very very well and the fam STICKS to them and yaz only starts pushing a little in flux but oh my god THIS is how it works. this is why yaz, just like, fucking lies down. that makes it sound so bad i dont mean it bad i just mean yaz vs Anyone Else is so different than yaz vs the doctor and THIS is why. because the doctor listened to her AND offered her a superior officer who WOULD believe her
can you imagine how many authority figures yaz has dealt with who never believed her?
